Man, what a great way to start a series.

A lot of potential to build on here, even if we have the usual highly optimistic boy and 'try hard enthusiasm' often associated with this genre, but that's a minor inconvenience and not a problem at this point. Good attention to detail as well.
Those Iwanagi sure are hungry though.h

Look forward to the next episode.

It's good to see old anime sometimes, and the voice of Sanpei looks familiar to me.

This seems rather interesting, although seeing the tanuki killed by the fish was rather disturbing.

I'll continue watching it. Hopefully it'll get a bit better.

One the one hand this looks so promising and I love the rural setting and I wish there were more shows like this but on the other hand, I feel like I can already tell this is gonna as be unrealistic and exaggerated as you'd expect from a shounen anime. Fishes that are basically lovecraftian monsters? Really? What's even worse, they HAD to make the protagonist a cliche shounentard mc and give him the most annoying squeacky siren like voice they could possibly find.
I know it's the voice actress of Son Goku but even in Dragon Ball her voice was beyond obnoxious. Enduring this for over 100 episodes feels like a torture.

@Weeaboo_Bomber It has a mix of realistic factual episodes and folktale/supernatural episodes, but the former is way more prevalent, and for the most part Tsurikichi Sanpei is as educational about fish as you can get imo. It does get pretty exaggerated, like when Sanpei jumps in the water to swim after huge fish (lol), but it's all in good fun.

@davidman001 Thx for the summary. You're right about the episodes being half factual, half "supernatural". Have to say, even though I like older anime like this, I just can't bring myself to care for fishing that much. My father would probably love this on the other hand, lol.
After having seen all episodes, one can see that the production is obviously cheap and the depiction of nature isn't all that impressing. That said, the idea and the setting deserve recognition and making some battle shounen out of fishing (with training arcs and new "techniques") is an art in itself.

@Weeaboo_Bomber That’s fair, I totally understand your points. I had a good time with Sanpei. While most episodes weren’t visually impressive (though to give credit where credit is due, they tended to have great visual depictions of the fish), there were a few stand-out episodes with great storyboarding, and towards the end the background art became more and more detailed and vibrant. It is a shame because the manga art is unbelievably detailed, but I think the anime does a good job translating the manga’s art despite its limitations.
But most importantly, Sanpei was fun. I enjoyed learning about fish, fishing techniques, folktale, and different locations. Being entirely episodic, I treated Sanpei more like a Saturday evening cartoon, where I can sit down and enjoy something unique about fishing.
