Currently the stalker estimates for the show are sitting at 3.8k

http://rederoin.motionsforum.com/t319-estimates-v2

3.8k is by now means bad, but are we potentially looking at a Chaika/Log Horizon situation where the length/production values of the second/third cours might suffer?

Maybe. Don't know about Chaika, but that didn't affect Log Horizon at all, it's funded by the government.

It's had the smallest sales boost out of all the light novel adaptations this season bar Juuou Mujin no Fafnir as well, despite having a huge potential in this respect, with such a vast difference between the sales of early volumes and later ones.
There is no such thing as shit taste. Only idiots who think everyone should have the same taste as they do.

Yes it did. LH got 24 more episodes but switched to studio deen.

The animation in season 2 is horrible.

That has nothing to do with the sales, they never thought it was going to sell well in first place. It's a late afternoon anime funded by the government, what matters are the ratings.

Wait, is it confirmed that Chaika S2 was 10 episodes because S1 sold poorly?

based on the ending, I'd assume so.

The ratings being low are the same shit.

the first season sold like 18,000+ disc per volume http://www.someanithing.com/series-data-quick-view , but now this sequel will only sell like 4,000+ disc per volume? i say that is so bad

maybe the japanese are like me that are not interested on sequels that much

I suppose the numbers could come up with time.

Unlike Chaika, Log Horizon didn't have a second season confirmed from the start. If the ratings were that bad there would be no sequel at all.

Not sure why they decided to go with the dialogue opening.

S1 was much more captivating in the beginning, that allowed people to want more. This season has been pretty dull so far.

1) Durarara is a fujoshi series, so it'll sell several times what Stalker has predictedl
2) Series coming back from a long break usually will have a big drop, see Mushishi going from 10,852 to 4,468. From what I heard they refused to reboardcast the first season of Durarara on NicoNico and a lot of Japanese were complaining about it too
3) This is the first project of Studio Shuka and they are trying to build their reputation so I doubt they expect much sales anyway.

Agreed. I'm not surprised people aren't buying. This season has been kinda terrible so far in my opinion compared to the past seasons. Dull, simply put.

A truly new studio isn't going to be tasked with such an important project.

Shuka broke off directly from Brains Base (arguably the heart of the studio in terms of reputation and hit-making potential), so expectations are certainly high.

I liked it, still the animation was bad. Luckily, it didn't really affect my enjoyment.
5 main aspects I base my ratings on:
1. Did DramaEnthusiast make a thread about it?
2. Is it better than Breaking Bad?
3. Did MellowJello recommend the shit out of it?
4. Has it caused a (very entertaining) shitstorm on MAL?
5. Is it actually good?

Scratch the fifth point, it's not very relevant...

I really hope the stalker estimates will improve. If Aldnoah.Zero S2 (the most unnecessary and worst sequel in anime history) manages to sell more than DRRRx2 (a very necessary and worthy sequel), I'm going to be so mad.

I loved the episode, disregarding the incredibly shitty animation. It's sad, cause the rest of the show managed to look really good.

Oh man, 5.7k for the first volume... That's a huge drop from vol.1 for the first season.
I really hope this won't affect the 3 cours plans and that the novels will still be fully animated.

I don't think it's going to affect anything. Given the sales drop of the source material, the fact it's still a new studio (even if it broke off from Brain's Base, not everyone is aware of that), and that it has been freaking 5 years, I find it difficult to believe the studio wasn't expecting this.
As mentioned, Mushishi suffered a similar blow.

The animation is looking bad because of schedule issues, most likely. It's been confirmed that some stuff will be redone for blu-ray release, so I see no point in complaining about the tv version quality. Actually, I'd rather have them focus their resources on the BD release, long after they dealt with the schedule issues of a weekly anime. It seems one of the recent episodes was key animated in the same freaking week it aired, it's not a smart move to put their money in this clunky of a project.

You know the guys who left Brains Base took all the talent with them right?

You might as well say MAPPA is a new unproven studio.

The bad animation is caused by the terrible sales projections.

People dont keep spending money on something that wont make them money.

Man, you are so ignorant.

The episodes you are watching, were already done, before those ''sales projections'' even existed. The animation is wanky at times, because it's a new studio, they don't have a big budget.

No, they weren't.

Also, you seemingly don't know that it's the talent from brains base. Also, I'd appreciate if you didn't speak to me in such a rude and inconsiderate manner. The producers posted on twitter, openly saying they are working week to week and speaking on the outsourcing of episodes 6-8 to get them out in time.

The ignorant one is you.

What the heck, I must be enjoying this season way too much If I haven't noticed a single instance of bad animation and I'm usually super picky about these things.

They should already be getting around to finishing animating the next season. After that, they might as well do the third one.
