And I'm sure its dub sucks, too.

P.S. This topic is now officially about English voices in Japanese-oriented anime.
You've come a long way, baby.

Subbed. You really can't go wrong. With dubbed they usually end up killing the voices, except for Naruto dub, thats the only dub I watch. One Piece's dub is sooooooooo bad.

Most of the time, I would prefer subs. Though there are special occasions where I watched the Dub first and it was surprisingly good for example the dubs for Full Metal Alchemist, Gundam Seed/Destiny, and Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad.

For me it goes:

Dub>>>>>>>>Sub

I like both, but with the exception of a few anime i'd rather watch the dubbed version.

Subbed, the dubbed voices sound (for some) really high pitched and don't really portray the character nicely.

definitely subbed
there have been very few dubs that would call good...
I also prefer watching movies and series in the original language anyways, the original actors/voices usually have a lot more feeling for their respective characters

It depends on the anime:
If its like Inuyasha, Ranma 1/2 its ok for me
But if its like Ouran High School Host Club, Perfect Girl Evolution I think NO WAY!! =P

yeah the five hundred thousand "BELIEVE IT"s like completely killed the dub for me

hm dunno if they were great or not since i have not seen the sub of the animes i watched on my TV before i found MAL, but Inuyasha, Gundam seed/destiny, Bleach, Naruto, Death note (i have seen this in both, some English voices were just "lol") and varies others,

As far as i can think of atm death note is the only anime where i have seen the entire series in both Japanese and English

I faintly remember Goku's voice, since Dragon Ball was one of the only animes in my country, that was left with the original audio. It was a little high pitched in the beginning, was it? Can't really put my ear to it.

But for me, I usually just watch in the original Japanese audio with subs, since it fells more natural than the English one. The only dub I heard and liked was Trigun, because it was funnier than the Japanese version :P

Quite frankly, I don't care how the dub voices sound. As long as quality and effort is high. And Dragon Ball, Naruto, One Piece, Ect.. are not good examples on dubs since the anime sucked to begin with and little effort was made in dubbing them. I prefer dubs over subs since it's more enjoyable to watch the show in my own language. My favorite dubs are Trigun, Figure 17, PlanetES, and Neon Genesis Evangelion. And my least favorite is Karin and Negima.

I would easily rather have a great english dub over a great sub any day of the week because it is in my LANGUAGE and I can focus on the anime instead of having to read the subs which can go by pretty fast, the only time I'll watch a sub is either A) the anime hasn't been dubbed yet or B) the anime has been edited in a lot of areas and the voices are awful

but I will say that Japanese seiyu's have alot more emotion than English voice actors

Sub. As stated more than once, the Japanese seiyuu always seem to have more emotion, and depth to their English counterparts. Now, this said, if there were such a dub that would effectively capture the correct emotions of the characters, and give them full depth I would wholeheartedly prefer it to a sub. However, these are... needless-to-say... rare, I'd venture to guess some would probably argue they are nonexistent as well.

I think it's incredibly unfair of some people to keep saying things like, "All dubs suck!" Have you watched every dub out there? I have heard a couple that are quite good but because the ones I watched and didn't like were just SO horrible to my ears, I decided it was better not to risk viewing something like that again and I've stuck to subs ever since. Besides, if it is set in Japan, then it fits. Also, I've always had a thing for foreign languages. Sometimes I turn the radio to a channel in Spanish or Russian or something just to hear the sound. In the case of anime, there's no way I can actually learn the language but it's fun to try and catch familiar words and see how the sentences seem to have a different structure to English. Finally, I've seen some anime in which characters use specific turns of phrase, puns, tongue-twisters, etc. I have no idea how that would translate well into English.

If I ever watch an anime set in an English-speaking country I might try the English-speaking version, though. I know when I was watching Black Lagoon recently and it dawned on me they were supposed to be speaking in English, I considered trying the dubbed version. However it was too late by then because I'd downloaded all the episodes :p

I've started trying to watch dubs, because usually I'm IMing a friend or something, and am too lazy to pause, and end up missing something. Or the subs go by too fast.

I'll watch it subbed, but if there's a dub, I'll look at it. I'm not on the whole "purist" thing, as I call it, where I HAVE to watch it in Japanese because that's the original language.

There's sucky dubs, like Love Hina. But I'll watch Lucky Star, Azumanga Daioh, Full Metal Panic, in English, because it's a pretty good dub. So...Either or. Whatever is there. ^__^

both...

there are some shows where the dub is better than the sub an shows where the opposite is the case

shows where the dub>sub
Cowboy Bebop
FLCL
Black Lagoon
Outlaw Star
The Big O
Desert Punk
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex
Gantz (only because it sounds like a B-Movie for the lolz)
Gundam Wing
Le Chevalier D'eon
Fullmetal Alchemist
Full Metal Panic
Fumoffu
The Second Raid
Samurai Champloo

Subs>dubs
Macross
Gundam Seed
Love Hina
Zegapain
Devil May Cry
Rahxephon
Fafner
One Piece

for me it depends tho. if i start watchin a show subbed, i generally continue watchin it subbed. if i start dubbed, i keep goin dubbed. the only exceptions were when i switched from dub naruto to sub (only cuz i didnt feel like waiting every sat. for new episodes), from sub full metal panic to dub, an black lagoon sub to dub which did a surprisingly good job

ive noticed that shows with a distinctly western feel (cowboy bebop, the big o, etc) generally have dubs better than the subs but thats just my opinion

if i had to choose tho...maybe dub cuz that way i dont have to constantly watch the screen. if its just a heavy conversation screen with no action happening, i can just listen

subs- mainly because of three reasons. The Dubbed version usually has a cast of crappy voiceovers, with exceptions, they also change the voices a lot which I find really annoying. Third and last, the amount of content they edit out is ridiculous....they take anime from japan and bring over here to make it look more kiddy and appropriate and I would rather watch the whole thing then an edited copy.

Subs. Waaaaaay too impatient to wait for dubs come out and most of the time the acting is terrible with dubs. Also sometimes i think it just looks a little weird for anime characters to be sprecken engerlish.
The only dub i have preferred over sub so far has been howl's moving castle. But i think that was mainly because of Christian Bale....mmmm, batman. : D

subs, since dub sometime can sound so bad( even if it's dub by the same company) and u should like dub cuz your a slow reader, when i first started anime i have to pause like every 2 sentences to read the sub, now i can even read them while fast forward.
