Have you been to Japan? If so, what areas did you visit and what was your favorite thing?

No and that makes me so sad!! I've wanted to go to Japan for a long time and I thought I would go during a trip with school, but then it got canceled... :c

But! I'm an adult and, when I have enough money saved and the determination to make plans, I'm gonna go visit Ai. c:

I've been to the Kansai area (mainly Osaka) and Tokyo. As an anime fan, I spent the most time in Akihabara and that was a lot of fun, but if I were to go again, I would definitely check out more rural areas (which would be primarily places in Kansai like Kyoto/Nara/etc).

Were you emotionally scarred by a Japanese person or something? They were very nice in my experience and I got some of the best customer service in my life there. The Koban (police box guy) was going out of his way to speak English to me. I could speak Japanese decently but I could tell he desperately wanted to use his broken English. It was great.

I went to Japan in 2008, to Tokyo. Went to lots of different places, the food was awesome (there was this restaurant at Sunshine City that made Katsudon that I simply cannot forget. I must eat it again!), but the highlight of the journey was definitely Hama-rikyū Gardens. Sitting on a small island on a lake, while drinking tea and enjoying the surreal view of skyscrapers popping up behind the trees. I was a bit younger then, so Akihabara wasn't really my cup of tea. Even now I think it's a bit overrated, but I'd still go there from time to time if I visited. Super potato is the best shop ever if you want retro games.

I tried to see as much of Tokyo as I could, but three weeks wasn't really enough. Shibuya was as crowded as I thought it'd be, Asakusa had a huge temple with loads of people (because of new year's), Ginza made your wallet shrink just by looking at stuff there and Ikebukuro is ideal for windowshopping.

As a tourist it was a really pleasant experience, the people were friendly, the food was awesome and the drinks at vending machines were cheap as hell. I recommend it~

No, and I don't plan to go because I'm actually frightened by those countries with earthquakes and tsunami. So... It's probably a silly reason for some, but I don't have any will to go there.

Been to Japan multiple times.

Food's great, vending machines are everywhere and it's really easy to travel around via transportation. The one big issue I have is that most Japanese people aren't that great when it comes to English, so you may have a hard time communicating.

It's not just some otaku land lmao, in fact if you think that you're probably going to be disappointed. Anime is big yes but not that big.

Well, I can't go to Japan because I don't have any money. But even if I did have the money, I can't go until the day they finally implement indoor smoking bans, because I'm not breathing in that shit.

Yes,
I've been to Japan Twice this year (2014) Once in the beginning of the year (Jan 2nd). Never Knew Tokyo could be really chilly, at least in the mornings. Stayed in the "outskirts" of Tokyo, in an area called "Tama-Plaza" (After the train station). I lived in a type of dorm apartments building which housed both Locals and Foreigners, We easily Co-exsisted and everyone was extremely friendly. This stay lasted 3 mouths and I during this stay I studied in Shibuya in Central Tokyo. (Language school and so on)

2nd time was a two week vacation with a very good friend of mine who had never even considered going to Japan. We went from Tokyo to Kyoto and osaka but decided to not go any further south because of the weather (It was during the hurricane, typhoon which hid the Okinawa islands later), Overall we had an amazing trip and got to talk and meet with many of the locals who helped us when we got lost.

Conclusion from my experiences = Japan Is amazing.

I've been there. The girls don't even look like they do in anime. I was confused and disappointed. I even went to a hot spring for my own hot spring episode. All I saw were old women :( .

I got to visit Nipponbashi (something like Osaka's Akihabara), Disneyland (which was full of schoolgirls. I like schoolgirls.) and some other places I don't really remember.

Would love to visit Tokyo next.

Tbh, I wish that I visited places other than Tokyo. Sure, the experience was in overall kickass, but it was a bit too crowded for me. I prefer calmer places, and I really feel like exploring the nature of Japan.

What's so great about any country? Besides Japan being glorified for anime and kawaii uguu-shit, I really enjoyed the culture difference. Everyone are so polite to you, even though you're a stranger. I do however agree that there are some major issues regarding Japan. Crap government, a whole lot of sexism and real estates are expensive as hell.
