Kirito is the antithesis of being badass; not to mention one of the worst written characters I have ever seen in any literary work. | Kaneki develops gradually, what made me like it so much was because even though Kaneki is "special" he doesn't get any special treatment like a power up or something because he is the MC or any crap like that, he goes through and learn like everybody else. But ultimately he does become a super bad ass and isn't against doing "villainous" things to his enemies. |

| I think it's funny that people keep saying in the comments "ya see that white hair in the opening? Yeah that's him he's badass" like white hair automatically means he's a badass lol. My problem isn't that he's a wuss, I'm more annoyed that (right now) he's just a very one-sided character without much backstory or distinguishable character traits. I hope that changes later and that we get some insight to him, but as of right now I literally know /nothing/ about this guy other than the fact that he's part ghoul and doesn't like that he's part ghoul. |
| I'm iffy about the whole thing; with only 12 episodes (of which 5 have already aired) and all the rush pace it's going, I think it's highly probable that they just barely touch the surface of the journey Kaneki takes to become said badass. 12 episodes does not explain the characters' backstories and reasons entirely and is way too few to tell the whole story properly, even. At this point, it may be possible for the anime to even skip the 'making of the badass-Kaneki.' TLR Kaneki grows major pair but the animation may butcher it so please read the manga and you will be impressed. |
