THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
That was a lame ending: "Oh, I need a specific card to end this duel, let's see if I draw it... Yes! I win." I know that this is no rarity, but it was so damn obvious this time xD Even a character in the anime itself found he was lucky :p
So Yugi has to defeat everyone of these guys to get his cards back? Sounds pretty boring, I hope we see at least some Joey action and not only Yugi defeating one guy after another.

"Yūgiō" means "game king". Every millennium item has its own abilities; there is also something they call "the heart of the cards". I bet millennium puzzle has an ability that allows its owner to control the positioning of the cards somehow.

^Except that the "heart of the cards" thing was just a bunch of bullshit added in by the butchered English version. The original has no such theme. It's just about believing in yourself and your friends, which honestly is just as cheesy....

Anyways, I love how the whole last ark was about everyone dueling to earn the god cards and then suddenly these three guys are just like "hey, yoink."

The soundtrack in this arc is bad ass.

Yuugi wins (as usual)! These guys are looking to be formidable foes, and they haven't even dueled yet! So Haga and Ryuzaki lost their souls when they were saying those strange things. But now they got their souls back and they're lookin' to get the god cards.

Eyyyy, it's Rebecca! Nice to see ya again after so many episodes lol

There were a few things that I didn't like, such as Graceful Charity suddenly getting a new animation sequence that we'll never see again, Yugi beating Obelisk way too easily, it being called "Dark Obelisk" in this episode, and Rafael releasing Haga and Ryuzaki's souls.

Rebecca returning bothered me when I first saw this episode since I knew she'd be mostly useless, although at least her return would be worth it in the Grand Prix arc.

A similar thing to the "Heart of the Cards" is mentioned when Kaiba gets introduced. (Or am I mixing it up with Season 0 or The Manga?)

To be fair the animation of Graceful looks great, but it really is a shame, they never used it again. Now onto Obelisk. Yeah that defeat was absolutely terrible. Way to invalidate the previous arc and hand-wave it, with Yugi learned how to beat the Gods. Why would his deck even include a card like that, if he didn't know he was going to fight them?

Also it is called Dark Obelisk, because the Barrier turns everything into Dark Monsters, not DARK monsters mind you.

All in all I'd say this was a pretty terrible first duel, even though I like that DMG got the spotlight, the actual duel was horrible.

And the 10 monsters gimmick is never used outside of a single moment with Mai again. So why even introduce it?

This two-part opener has some pretty interesting elements, but falls flat in the execution. Like most of Doma for that matter.
No Blood. No Bone. No Ash.
