Another episode another day for Izumi to dodge death like this guy is unlucky really

At least we see Shikimori yet again doing what she does best cool and cute, This sports event made it better not just being one dimensional all the time and added a little spice new characters got introduced

Oh no someone's jealous and she's pissed I think even at the end of the day she really got ticked off by Izumi not hanging with her well I can't blame her she's his savior after all.

Literally nothing happened this episode and still absolutely nothing makes me care about those two.

Lets make a summary of events.

Shikimori shows her bolder side by teasing Izumi in the nurse ward.
Also Shikimori shows that being so bold is quite shameful.
Shikimori wants to support her boyfriend even when she's not physically near him.
Izumi has a revelation that is ok being the support guy in a relationship regardless of social customs of Japan.
There's a whole well animated volleyball matchup that not only looks great, but also serves as a setup for a new character and posibly subplot.

PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT YOU WATCH.

So, basically exact same skits as in ep 1 with different animation.
If you really think ther Generic Anime Line #17363518 is somehow "character development", then you do yours.
We see it in literally every show as an exposition dump and usually means nothing.
We also had like two of them in the first episode band it went nowhere.
That's why this episode felt the same.

I bet Grocery Store Arc will hit hard.

if you can't make it like Kotarou or Nasa.
try to make it like Michizou from Tamako Love Story.
if you want to be different at least make me enjoy your role as the Main Character.
Sometimes Ootani and Gouda are also unlucky, but still can make me proud.
This Male MC not only annoying but he also has no identity.
one more episode, if still no change then I'm done with this fucking magic show.

I understand that Izumi is really close to bad luck but being clumsy at the same time? It's already a big no. Idk why they made his character like that, it super negative. They are making Shikimori like a meatshield for him which is kinda infuriating. It's different from other rom-com when it comes to that but it is still not okay. I'm only loving this show because of Shikimori, ngl. I like her different emotions and faces, it's really well-portrayed. Well, I'm still giving hopes for the next episodes to make it interesting.
My theory is that they're trashing Izumi on purpose. This puts all the focus onto Shikimori, instead of on their relationship. It's in their best interest to sell her as a waifu, and to downplay any legitimacy to their "reverse shoujo" dynamic. In the manga Izumi is basically Shikimori's gf, and she's obv the dominant one, but it's actually done in a really cute way that's endearing (if you can get over the whole gender subversion thing) which is nothing like the anime, where they go out of their way to make him look like a pathetic trope.

Or it could just be a bad adaptation.
If you reply back to me and I never respond, I lost interest and don't care. Sorry about that.

Damn looks like this is it for me this episode is still a miss the interaction of the main girl and boy just doesn't seem to be more natural which making me kinda feel somehow uncomfortable i don't really know if this word explain my feelings watching this but the word uncomfortable is probably the word that describes my feeling the most that i can think of maybe if they don't over exaggerated the feelings of the couple maybe it will help? Not so sure though and the main boy misfortune is kinda obnoxious

There are things that i liked so far though it's shikimori's expression and the opening slaps

Im gonna drop this might pick it up if the ratings in mal will somehow get higher

For the only 2 episodes that we have so far I think it's pretty good, cute and all. But has anyone read the manga ? Don't want to ask for spoilers or what but i'm kinda afraid of this cuteness begining to feel forced over the episodes has it seems that each episode has it's own small story and so not really going deeper into the characters personnality (except "Awww so cute").
Also kind of frustrated to know they're a couple but acting as two crushes.

But beyond that, the episode just put a smile on my face so, for me, it's a success !
In the manga the first 15 chapters or so (4-8 pages each) are pretty much just short scenes with cute moments that highlight their relationship dynamic, with Shikimori being the more cool/dominant one of the two. This gives you a much clearer picture of how you're supposed to relate to Izumi, the anime skips a lot of this. What they're doing is stitching together all of the school related shorts to make a more cohesive plot, and to line up with the manga's change in direction, and that is probably why it feels somewhat forced. Since the anime is practically speed-running the story, it will switch over to a more natural feeling SOL within the next episode or two.

Ho okay. So we can expect things to be more coherent in a few episodes ? Basically I just hope that it won't be a compilation of the same "cool girl / Cute girl" running gag without going deeper into a more structured couple relationship, and imo it has to be done through a more "built" story, like with coherent arcs, underlining their respective feelings and making them go through events that are less "artificial" than the ones we can expect seeing these first two episodes. But I believe that this is the way it is because, as you say, they're kinda speedrunning the manga, making it feel forced.
Whatever, won't be long before people get bored if they keep going like these for the next weeks episodes.

It could have a great potential since their setup is really cute imo, unlike the usual rom-com dynamic. Haven't read the manga but seeing what it is in this adaptation seems like a meh. They might be successful in delivering Shikimori's worth but it backfires the whole anime, making you disappointed instead. I feel sad for Micchon, carrying this whole show.

Hngh, this is so Goddamn adorable. Ya'll hating on Izumi, while I would jump in front of truck-kun for Izumi, cause that truck really coming for this man lmao. A truck really crashed into their home.

RIP to Inuzuka, the sacrifice so we could see what happens to people that hangs with Izumi that's not Shikimori.

I am honestly really looking forward to see how they first met, based on that opening, there's a lot to look forward to.

Better than the first episode at least. Probably because we got some Haikyuu

Yeah watching him play soccer was almost painful to watch. To watch ten more episodes of this? I'm not sure about that. But then he is sent to the infirmary with all his injuries... and while Shikimori is with him, she discovers a substantial scar on the side of his head, as he notes that he has several others on his body. Could it be, he suffered from a terrible accident that left his motor functions severely impaired? If so, then this show has already improved significantly as we now have somewhat of a reason as to why he is clumsy beyond belief.

But for me, Izumi tripping over a rock isn't the real problem. The issue for me is the romantic chemistry between our already-dating couple- there just doesn't seem to be any. There certainly is a relationship there for sure, but it comes off as a big sister simply just being protective of her little brother. Any boyfriend-girlfriend chemistry seems to be near-non-existent.

If I were to choose a highlight of the show so far, it has to be Shikimori's facial expressions- particularly from angry-Shikimori of course

Same sucks Izumi moment when he played football. But oh well, what can he do? Until Shikimori did some little aggresive move to cease Izumi mind from the unfortune that always sufferred the poor boy.

So, that's Kamiya debut, heh? She's also god damn cool. Too bad this is Shikimori show, so ofc all the attention and victory be sure coming to the pink girl.

Lot of fangirl swarming Shikimori, after the volleyball game, and also Nekozaki. Izumi kinda be a dust compare to the greatness that is Shikimori. Too bad for Inuzuka that needed to handle all those unfortune alone when Shikimori away. But oh well, its all back to the moment of truth for those two again near the end.

As far as i enjoy the ed playing, i am hoping more to the dynamic between, and somehow i am hoping Kamiya to be more active. Lets see if the next episode delay or not...

You know what I hate the most about the adaptation? How they colour their eyes. It look so plastic and mismatched with their hair colour, especially Shikimori and Izumi. I'm convinced that Shikimori being a blonde would be better to suit her blue eyes, pink is just so bad. As for Izumi his eyes could be either dark hazel or any darker shade of colour, not this neon light eyes.

Their eyes just look awful.

I don't mind FL being the dominant one but do you really have to show ML as pathetic loser? Both leads should be equally good otherwise it's bad imo and it's annoying how Shikimori fans compare it to dress up darling and says this is better like excuse me? you are wrong and for those who who keeps saying not to judge it by 1 or 2 episodes sorry but this isn't some complex deep story it's just Sol rom-com and if you have watched enough of these types you can predict how it's going to be by just 1 episode

Hahahha the reactions are pretty much what I expected . Reading the manga , izumi won't seem this much of a .... I don't know what to call him so I will just call him herbivore .... Because we don't know what he sounds like . But in this anime he has the sort of yelping voice that some just can't help but get annoyed at . Can't blame them at all .

And kamiya is already here . As I suspect , her "arc" is probably getting adapted this season so that this show would have some drama going for it and avoid being repetitive .

Also am I the only who thinks that micchon would have been better without actually having her mouth moving ? I mean one of the best things about her was the fact that she basically reacts the same to anything with the same smiley face ( which also accumulated it up for a fun arc for her later on ) .
Maybe it would be weird having her speak without actually moving her mouth ....

I can't believe how people are hating on Izumi. I get it, he's a misfortunate bastard (or pure clumsiness which it really is) that must be protected at all times, but yo he's not a dense pussy bitch like other MCs out there, he is assertive at times bruv. Now that I think about it, if male gets this kind of stuff all the times, then this show somewhat made a reverse shoujo-esque dynamic, think about it for a sec.

But aniweiss, Kamiya is here for the first time and she got deuced by Shikimori in their volleyball match, which made our girl more popular. Meanwhile, Izumi and Inuzuka are having a BL-like scene....I want that ngl xD

Hopefully we can get to Kamiya's character more in upcoming weeks, but for now let's appreciate how Shikimori and Izumi can't stand not going to home together, that's some relationship (that I envy) goals there if you ask me.

Decent episode, seems like the whole anime is just going to revolve around MC getting unlucky and Shikimori protecting him.

Though that "Who's that hot guy?" part got me good for some reason, watched it thrice, laughed heartily every time. But the whole game was pretty lame, felt nothing when they won 'cause well we knew they are going to win.

I don't even know if calling the MC cringe is the right word? Maybe just lame? IDK. Anyway call those people who kept calling Rent a gf MC cringe and show them the MC of this anime. Well it's been just 2 episodes so I won't judge this too harshly until at least half-way point.

But damn you won't believe, it took me 2 hours to finish watching this episode lmao, I kept pausing then checking MAL or going to eat something or just did other stuff, I'm not sure what to call this episode, but it was hard to watch it in one go.

I think it's just gonna be Shikimori that's gonna keep holding this anime if things are still like this in future episodes. This anime has a good selling point-cute waifu which is attracting the viewers but the story isn't that engaging or interesting to keep the viewer interested. Sono bisque had the same thing, it attracted tons of viewers with Marin and the story was good so people stayed, Shikimori has this chance too, they just need to grab this opportunity.

Anyway, 4/5 episode.

Once again, the cuteness between Izumi and Shikimori is very strong and both of them had some sweet moments together throughout this episode. Shikimori certainly knows how to pull off a smile that's sexy and cute while saying "Just kidding!" so easily. X3

She did really well in the volleyball match, too. She and her friend were able to dig deep and win against the other team that had an ace player helping them, which was nice. It did win both girls a lot of new fans, which did alienate Shikimori from Izumi quite a bit, which left poor Inuzuka to protect Izumi from any bad mishaps coming his way.

The stair scene with Izumi and Shikimori was pretty cute, too, and it reaffirms how much they both love each other.

This episode does feel too similar to the first episode, but I honestly don't mind it. One thing I don't like is the hate towards Izumi. He's not a great character by all means, but it feels as if he's committed a cardinal sin that has warranted so many overreacting posts denouncing him as something beyond trash. Izumi's knack for misfortune is so great, Inuzuka was even roped in it OTL. Izumi's "Good luck! Don't get hurt" was very cute and "誰あのイケメン" made me laugh /insert inuzuka: calm down (LOL)/

Shikomori and Nekozaki had their fanclubs formed after the volleyball game, though I thought that Shikomori should have had a fanclub way earlier i.e. during her first year haha. Shikomori's fans took notice of Izumi as well - the chorus of "ohh he's cute" was funny

I look forward to knowing more about Kamiya. She must be a childhood friend or someone from middle school? As Izumi knows her but Shikomori does not.

I don't mind "weaker" characters, but something that can really make me dislike one is if they just accept their terrible situation without a decent reason or without at least putting in some effort to solve it. As of now, Izumi is doing neither, and he just degrades himself and accepts the situation. I'm hoping there is development later on that allows him to at least protect himself and Shikimori every once in a while. Hell, I'll even be happy if it turns out that his misfortune comes from an outside force or past trauma--at least this way there will be a reason why he has such terrible luck and he's not doing anything about it.

I understand that not all shows need to have a complex story or serious characters and writing, but in this case I'm hoping for at least something that will poke Izumi into doing something.

I agree with you that the hate for Izumi is really over the top, and a lot of the people calling him useless or pathetic may not be much better off themselves IRL.

My stance on Izumi is that it's ok for him to be "weak," but it's important that he doesn't just accept it and does something to try and change it, even if it's unsuccessful. That is something I don't see in him right now, but I'm hoping for later development (This show doesn't seem to be too serious though, so I'm not asking for much).
