Damn it, I can't stop the damn tears, it was really painful.
Humans are the worst creatures on this planet after all.
Tiger was a slave, that is the reason he hated humans so much.

The Sun Pirates are one of my favorite pirate crews in One Piece. Tiger is an incredible hero, courageous and strong but flawed and fighting his own trauma. Jimbei being on the line, unsure if humans and fishmen can ever get along and going against Otohime's words as he finds it a pipe dream but slowly bonding with Koala and shifting his view that humans and fishmen can get along. Aladdin and Hachi helping Koala get through her trauma through making her feel as one of them, being compassionate, and even playing that cute game which utilized all of Hachi's arms- slowly through time transforming her forced and scared smile into a genuine one. Arlong may have even had a moment of understanding back when Fisher Tiger ordered that they shall not kill anyone and prove themselves to be a different breed than the humans who hate them.

They are such a strong crew, and even until the end Fisher Tiger showed that when you are treated as a slave and shown contempt for saving someone's daughter and later attacked with the intent of execution that even if you believe in a future of peace, even if you believe in compassionate humans and empathize with fellow human slaves, that the hatred bred in you doesn't easily go away. I felt disgusted when he was ambushed and when Arlong cried it hit me the most. Fisher Tiger started small as a leader of his people and when he himself was taken as a slave and saw the sights that traumatized Hancock and bred in her hatred for men, he decided no matter how amazing Otohime's intentions for the future are he cannot let the current slaves suffer any longer. Through his suffering a devil or a demon inside him was created, one that made him unable to look at his own reflection, yet he still fought it so much that the closest we saw it was in his self aware final moments and in his understanding of Arlong.
  • "Even though I know that there are kind humans, there is a devil inside of me clouding my thoughts. My whole body rejects their blood!"
The resentment created through hateful experiences cloud a true hero even to the end. How beautifully sad. This backstory has made fishmen's role in the One Piece world so much more enriched. So much more real. With how we know Jimbei turned out and how Arlong turned out, one of which killing in cold blood and enslaving people himself, I think we can see the path both split off into after these events. My one complaint is that I wish Kuroobi and Chew got more characterization, so far to me they are still just Arlong's goons. Hopefully they get their time.

With how Tiger was met with a firing squad for everything he's done to help others, I can finally understand why Arlong and his eventual crewmates ended up hating humanity as much as he did despite his captain's final wishes. Only the strongest of wills would've been able to hold back their grudges after witnessing such a despairful ordeal.

Tiger...

So in the end, it was Tiger's trauma as a slave that broke his will to live. Quite a tragic outcome. Part of me hopes we see Koala grown up at a later point, having done something to bridge that 10,000 meter gap between humans & fish-men.

Bruhh Humans couldn't coexist with each other let alone with another species.
The Cycle of Hatred, it wouldn't stop until both side did.

Now Arlong hatred towards Human will be much stronger than ever.

We gonna meet Koala in the present time right?

This episode was such an emotional rollercoaster. Tiger had such a big heart, he didn’t deserve this outcome. Absolutely tragic. R.I.P.

That Strawberry needs his hair shoving up his arse. Another sick pos that dares utter the word 'justice' after claiming another human is 'rightful property'.

It's a classic tale of trying to overcome prejudices, but those that are trying continue to encounter that absolute worst of the other side i.e. celestial dragons and navy which end up making the biggest impact on their views. Also forgetting the fact that they're pirates, and likely would've been cornered and trapped the same way if they'd been humans and did the same thing. Only helps Arlong in spreading his hatred onto others.

Would be nice if the Strawhats eventually encounter a grown Koala so we can hopefully see Fisher's wish that she remained unprejudiced against fish-men despite the adults living there already seeing them as lower. Was disgusting that not one person...not even the mother cast aside Fisher being a fish-man and a pirate to call out a heart-felt "Thank you for bringing my daughter home!" Sort of thing makes you wonder whether she actually did miss her daughter that much if you can't manage even that in that particular moment :(

I swear oda does not miss with back stories. That little girl needs to be protected at all cost. Hope she comes in during current day and is a supporter of Fishman rights

But fisher tiger. What an amazing character. I really felt for him. He did so much good. Hate that he wouldn’t take the blood and that it would have been to much for his heart. Even if his head wanted to. Just a great character.

You know this all comes down to the celestial dragons being one of the worst groups of people in fiction. I hope that this show ends with Luffy/dragon taking them and the world government out.
