I hope with time the world becomes more accepting of people like Tsubaki. What you're interested in shouldn't be gatekeeped by some idea of gendered exclusivity.

I do wonder though if there is a female equivalent of guys liking pretty or 'non-manly' things and feeling insecure about it? 🤔

This was a rather touching story about Tsubakino. It can be tough being a boy who has an appreciation for the cuter things in life. Society forces it's expectations on you and when you don't conform to it will ostracize you. That is why it's important to find friends who will accept and support you.

The episode about Tsubaki's flashback is incredible! I didn't think that behind the appearances hides a person who is uncomfortable in her own skin!!

Not one, because we had the old man and his late wife's backstory too. Sakura gets more boring each episode
I don't care if there is a fight or not, just write smth decent. If goes on like this, I might drop

this was such a beautiful and emotional episode. I love that this anime has such a strong foundation in emotion and character depth. I love that these are well-developed characters with diverse backstories that are so easy to get attached to. I have not read the source material, so I did not expect this to be amazing as it is, definitely expected a typical fight-based anime to pass the time. I'm so happy I was wrong

I really liked this episode. This is the type of combat shonen I want — a shonen that focuses more on the emotions and internal struggles of the characters rather than the combat itself.

One of the best episodes of Wind Breaker so far, with a touching and amazing message for everyone who's struggling with themselves. Tsubakino is one of the best characters in the series and when that certain fight comes, people will be cheering for them.

Such a heartwarming episode. I burst into tears as soon as the old man started crying, realizing that his now-deceased wife had loved him all along, despite him being oblivious to it for most of their life together. I'm really glad the Bofurin boys were able to help the old man with his long-time dilemma.

The old man aside, we still haven't seen anything of that tattooed, muscular guy who made his debut in a post-credits scene a few episodes ago. I'm excited to see what that guy has in store for us.

So no hate to Tsubakino, as that seems to be where some of the hate for this episode comes from, but the episode was just, really, really boring. At this point in the show, almost nothing has me coming back to see what is in store for next week because there is nothing being built up these last 3 episodes. I liked the one where Sakura was sick and we got to see his resolution to the problem he faced in episode one of season 1, but these last 2/3 episodes aside from that have been utterly terrible in pacing. Another issue is that it seems this episode has 2 extreme views, either you hate it because it's too gay for you, or you love it because you want to support an lgtbq character. But both these views are extreme, and most don't seem to realize it's not that Tsubakino wants to be a girl, it's just he likes cute things and likes cross-dressing. This is a real thing people I am familiar with deal with, where because they cross dress, people call them a closeted trans person even though they are not. Is Tsubakino gay? I'm not sure, but it might be implied. This episode was just really boring and terrible, and Sakura's blushing and spitting when he saw the old man's picture really just made no sense, and I don't understand how anymore it can be viewed as "normal" thing.

This anime is winning me over more and not even because of the fighting since there hasn’t been any in weeks. It’s becoming more clear they really know how to write characters. I’m glad they can take these slow moments and let the characters breathe. Tsubaki is a lovely character so far.

Absolutely disappointing. This ep was totally off from the style of the whole series — it’s obvious they just threw it in to force a sappy backstory for Tsubaki just because he’s one of the alpabet people

What a heartwarming couple who first accepted Tsubakino... it's so sad that the wife died though :( but still great to see that Tsubakino still takes care of the old man

This episode is very much not off from the style of the series. As someone up-to-date on the manga, this is exactly the style of the series. Cool fights and breakdown of emotional lessons that Sakura needs to learn are given equal time in this series. You're the one with the incorrect idea of what this series is like. These drama/slice of life moments will continue to happen and won't be glossed over between major fighting arcs.

You mean to tell me a show about boys punching each other suddenly is too "woke" because they introduce a guy who crossdresses? Are you new to anime? To Japan as a culture?

This is what happens when you let anime be easy to access: you get the braindead morons who would call this a commie plot and think you can get LGBT through vaccines.

An episode that has nothing to do with the story, and the main character's face turns red for the most trivial reasons. I hated this anime because of these ridiculous things.

Well this episode went in a different direction than I'd expected (thought they were either actually gonna go on a "date" or run into another problem that forces them to fight) - but can't say it's totally random, with how many wholesome, life lesson-centered episodes we've been getting lately. I really liked it. I love how much this show makes me smile. The old man and his wife are such couple goals.

Sakura had way more screen time blushing than not blushing this entire episode lmao. He's adorable.

....Why the hell are so many people complaining about this episode when it's such a feel-good episode? It's already been established for a while now that this show isn't exclusively focused on fights and action - it also highlights many important themes and life-lessons for teenagers. Some that are pretty cheesy ngl, but the wholesomeness of this series is a big part of what makes it so great. People who complain about the crossdressing or about this show not mainly focusing on the action really need to change their mindset/expectation for this series and grow up.

As someone who's already read ahead in the manga, I was really looking forward to the adaptation of it, and I gotta say, Cloverworks did a phenomenal job. This was a very emotional episode and the creators just absolutely nailed it!!! I love this season soon much.

decent episode

i always have a sweet spot for old people stories and this was pretty moving,

For tsubakino's backstory i have conflicted feelings, while i like how they approached it and that he found happiness doing things that are considered weird by society while i think you don't owe society anything you can atleast respect the norm and appear "normal" while going outside, blend into the crowd with strangers and show yourself to people you know would be more proper, but still i like that tsubakino didn't force his way into Sakura and just hoped for acceptance instead,

Now overall this show is going in a strange direction, i feel like the yankee aspect is just a pretext to introduce melodrama, i guess it's cool for some but i personnally expected pure fights like we had in season 1, which was why i took interest.

I did not expect any heavy character building or complexities espeiclly from a middle school fighting anime, but boy I was wrong: characters that contradicts a lot of societal norms alongside the characters of the current selves.
Really good episode, maybe (for me) best episode of the show. Sure, the acceptance arcs of the other characters were nice, but they felt predictable and bland (imo). But introducing a crossdresser caught me off guard and piqued my interest. It's rare to see them in anime or any media with actual good and layered representation, really good episode.

Damn guys what is wrong with you? Learn when to keep things to yourselves, interact on the internet like you would in real life, you wouldn't say that to anyone's face would you? Restraint is not difficult, that's why I have no acceptance for such posts.

This is an anime, it's not deep, there is no “propaganda” here Crossdressing is an element that is often used in Japanese media, if that's too much for you that's ok, ey but then leave it alone.

Further posts that go in this direction will be punished directly with a 5-day ban, nobody needs such stupidity.

4 episodes without a fight. You're an action show, please do the thing you're good at.

Its character drama, worldbuilding and slice-of-life stuff is all pretty basic, I don't understand why they've put the main feature on pause for so long to just meander like this...
@perseii I totally agree, but at the same time this was hands down my favorite episode of the series so far. They're shooting themselves in the foot by focusing on the slower, more heartwarming, non-deliquent show content for such long stretches of the show, and most of it isn't nearly as good, but this episode in particular was fantastically well handled, even if they honestly should probably mix thing up a bit more.

I see there's some people hating on these past two episodes, just know that Tsubaki isn't going anywhere and he's a very present character, it's better for those people to just drop the anime lol also know that Wind Breaker is a very (what some people would call) "woke" anime/manga

Still I'm happy the majority of comments are positive, I'm loving this season so much! I cried a whole ocean this episode

There are a lot of great shows that are "about people." For me this one's doing just an okay job with "people" stuff, not as good as it is at doing action.

It's nowhere near enough to hold the anime up on its own over such a long stretch. If you like how they're handling it, great.

Season 1 did a better job alternating and mixing the character work with the action (even if it also dragged later on). I'm still here to see that.

I was hoping to get some action since we're entering the latter half of the season, but I really love grandpa's story.

It was touching to me, I felt sad that grandpa was being unsure if he was truly loved or not. The ending to the episode was beautiful.

That was such a great episode! I truly appreciate Tsubaki’s backstory, even though it was brief, it strongly portrayed the struggle of feeling alienated for liking things outside the “norm”. It was painful to hear Tsubaki say that he wanted to be/feel “normal”, especially when there’s nothing wrong with him enjoying dressing up and wearing makeup. Nonetheless, seeing him find two people who accepted him for who he is and what he loves was genuinely heartwarming. Honestly, it was a great episode that highlighted the struggles of members of the LGBTQ+ community and did a great job showing understanding and inclusivity. Really looking forward to seeing more of Tsubaki!

The "date" with Tsubakino to visit the Ito residence and help out the ailing old man with the house chores since his wife Yui's passing, Nire and Suo share the same sentiments while Sakura just remains flustered with the old man sharing his tales of the time with his wife together. At least to Tsubakino, they treated him with utmost care that he's into the traits of feminism, that is a sentiment shared since the time he met them, albeit wanting to be "normal" in the eyes of people.

That story inspired Nire much for Sakura and Suo to beckon joining Tsubakino along. Sakura, however, interprets it in a way like Tsubaki is into Umemiya, which is kind of funny. But referrig to the garden outside, which was a garden until the dogwood tree's presence made it look out of place, it certainly stands to reason that he did all of the things for his wife, yet never attempted to understand her better, which now he only knows.

A different episode, but a great one at that.
