Ninja vs. Samurai
I’m confused whenever the OP means, if the ninja fighting against X random groups and kicks more ass compared to a samurai or vice versa, OR that the ninja kicks samurai’s ass hands down or vice versa.
*Chuckles* after reading a few post I can’t help to think most are biased because they are fan of some kind of anime show or manga, then we go more in depth into each individual person’s taste of fighting style.
The honor bound samurais;
We all know samurais are servants they served their lord and they were granted authority over civilians, either by their lord or through marriage to gain political power. Samurais were the only ones that were allowed to wear any sort of weapons. We all know Bushido? In case some didn’t know, Bushido is the way of the warrior it’s samurai’s rule of conduct. Loyalty was absolutely the most importance to the samurai, it only requires the samurai to do one act of disgrace to his superior to be executed by performing a seppuku a self ritual execution and if the samurai was exalted he could ask his friend to decapitate the samurai’s head in his moment of excruciating pain. Samurai also adopted spiritual guidance mostly Zen Buddhism, while in that branch there were defects and later became Buddhist monks. Their armor is consisting of leather and iron and a prestige helmet to strike fear into their enemies. Samurais often used various weapons, as for swords they used Tachi and Uchigatana until it got replaced with the Katana
In the end Samurai is not a person with free will and will always honor the way of the warrior and lives by his sword to serve his master.
The assassins, ninja;
Early development of the Ninjutsu had little to do with martial arts, it wasn’t till later they incorporated martial arts to stand a chance against the samurai and fight off raiders and robbers from their villages. Ninja’s works almost the exact opposite of the way of the warrior; their activities were guerilla warfare, ninja’s are assassins, saboteurs, and did espionage. They used stealth tactics to infiltrate and to execute their objectives. Ninja’s are also tricksters using gunpowder to create smoke bombs and firecrackers to create a diversion or to flee. Weapon they used was something shorter than the katana, but bigger than the wakizashi which is what samurai would use when they are residing in a house.
Conclusion: A ninja is free to use any advantage to kill a samurai; a samurai can kill a ninja, but the samurai always has to honor the code which can restrict him to kill a ninja. As well as it all depends on the fighter, tactics, training, environment and situation. I think that should cover the whole ninja vs. samurai.
Somebody mentioned Vikings, Vikings were brutes they would normally eat specific type of herbs and they usually weren’t sober during combats, thus not enduring any pain during combat hence the reason being called brutes and has recieved quite a fierce reputation but, Vikings also had gods they worshipped their own Æsirs (gods). For instance, Odin which had great wisdom and knowledge, he was the all-knowing, Tyr god of war, Thor god of thunder and protector and there are many more; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norse_myth Of course these gods affected the Vikings in many ways than just war but, I’m going to focus on the war aspect, of course the thought of the fallen ones also known as Einherjars would influence their mentalities during battles as well, you could say they were quite spiritual fighters at that era. Vikings had poor armory and weapons compared to samurai’s, only the wealthiest Vikings would wear chainmail’s, exotic animal leather coats, armaments and horned Vikings helms and usually wooden or iron buckler and a sword. A less unfortunate could only afford a sword and perhaps a shield.
This is a major disadvantage against any eastern weapon. However Vikings were formidable opponent and fierce fighters. Vikings aren’t honorable fighters though, compared to samurais and even ninjas, granted Vikings were adventurers but, they often pillaged and did much worse things and did quite a lot of piracy.
