Well, that's nice. Hope they show it subbed.

For once I can be proud to say I'm happy I live in the bay area. If I don't work a night shift that day I will leave Oakland to see this movie.

Are you telling me I don't have to pay extra for a dub I won't be listening to, ever? Please, we have every right to complain about dubs just like dub preferrers have every right to complain about the subs. Subs usually cost less though so it's less valid.

I'm neutral in the sub/dub conflict, however if I had to lean one way or another, I would say sub-only releases generally were cheaper. However, that has recently changed quite a bit and is no longer true as companies realize that they are profiting much, they need to profit more thus a higher MSRP. They have to pay those license fees somehow, right? Licensing anime definitely isn't free. The following is based solely on MSRP, no discounts applied.

Nozomi Entertainment has maintained a $49.98 MSRP for 12-13 sub-only episodes.
Sentai Filmworks is moving MSRP from $39.98 to $49.98 for 12-13 sub-only episodes.
NIS America is maintaining a $59.98 MSRP for 12-13 sub-only episodes.

Meanwhile,
Media Blasters still maintains the single volume route with MSRP ranging from $19.99 4-6 episode sub-only volumes (Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei) to $29.99 (Queen's Blade) bilingual 4-6 episode volumes. A recent exception is Kanokon, which is bilingual and $19.99 each for 4 episodes.
Funimation continues to put out 12-13 bilingual episode sets at $59.98, sometimes at $49.98 and in Keroro Gunso, Shin-chan's case $39.98 MSRPs. They would then release a complete collection at an MSRP ranging from $59.98 to $69.98. Then they have their S.A.V.E. line which if you wait long enough, you can get anywhere from 12-26 episodes for $30 or less.

And nobody still cares about Viz Media. I sure don't.

Do you honestly think the company that brings everything from Shonen Jump to America is a company no one cares about?

I mean I know their DVD sales fail miserably for anything that didn't air on American TV but seriously? You clearly aren't an idiot so I am confused why you would say such a stupid, stupid thing.

I'm so glad for S.A.V.E. I was only mildly interesting in Air and...Kannon I think it's called? But now I want to buy them.

Dagnit. Just a bit out of range for a college kid living in Iowa. I wish so badly that I could go see this...

Much as I hate to say it, though, I can wait for a DVD release. Even in the quality that it was, the camrip was enough to tide me over.

Just bought my ticket for the 7pm premiere on the 21st. Didn't think I could afford to go but I found a cheap trip via Expedia (I live in LA so San Fran is only about an hour and a half by plane).

I heard that apparently Crunchyroll, Bandai, and Yen Press will be offering some "goodies" that night (one I believe is a performance by Christina Vee).

hmmmmm... I have been toying with going that weekend if I can meet enough online people to make it worthwhile *ahem*. If you're there friday night, you'll see the Christina Vee performance and poster signing, and get a chance at 15 free crunchyroll subscriptions. There might be more, but I'm not really swayed.

Just look around on Expedia, they have a lot to choose from (I was able to get a flight+one night hotel stay for under $300)

I would still prefer driving than flying LA->SF... my car doesn't have lines and security; cheaper too. A rental car for round-trip is probably just as effective if not moreso, though I guess some people like airports. If you're uncomfortable driving, or you want to try to make it back and forth in the same day, then you can consider the plane though.

I figure the gas would be under $80 plus a room at motel 6 or something will still be well under the expedia package. If you have a car, use that.... or get a rental car for a couple days; you'd probably want one to get around after you land anyway.

I don't know my way around the freeways and I also share a car with my mom, so I wouldn't be able to drive out there. But if you can, it's definitely the better and cheaper way to go =)

Although google maps seems to want you to take I-5 and then go across 580 to the bay bridge, I think the much better way (and only an extra 25 minutes each way) is to follow 101 and enjoy the coast. You can follow it right to the theater.

You can either take I-5 north and switch to 101 half-way via 198, or just head to santa barbara and follow 101 the whole way. It's about 7.5 hours of driving, or 7 if you take the boring way via I-5.

Just got back from San Fran. The movie premiere last night was awesome~! We got a free large poster (signed by Christina Vee) and a free copy of either Vol.1 of the novel or manga. They also raffled off Crunchyroll subscriptions at the end but I never win those things =P

The guy from 2chan who had seen the movie 99 times in Japan was there too, making it his 100th time. The Bandai folks were so impressed that they called him up and gave him a badge XD Lots of people asked for his autograph too. Bet he wasn't expecting to become so famous.

I also heard that they're going to try and get the movie to be released in more theaters in the U.S. (LA is expected to be one place). No official confirmation yet but here's hoping.

I'll write my full coverage of the premiere next week on my blog.
