That was surprisingly good! I didn't expect to love the film as much as I did, the whole aspect of using the film scenes to show how the director was feeling was really neat. I'll definitely rewatch this one with more of my creative friends later.

YouTube Shorts has finally recommended me something good for once because wow, that was CINEMA (literally). This movie is so underwatched it's kind of crazy how it's so unknown. Great story, great animation, etc. I would've expected this to be more popular with everything that it had to offer.

There's just so much exposition about facts from the "film industry" and inspirational mumbo jumbo in this film, and the film wants to be taken seriously, but then it has Pompo-san a character that looks like a kid as the director of a feature-length film? what?! what kinda world do these guys live in, maybe I wouldn't mind too much if they made the characters anthropomorphic animals or something but no, some people look completely regular and then there goes underdeveloped body Pompo, she acts like a kid too, why?! as it is, I just feel too much cognitive dissonance about the art style, it's not helped that they don't tell us anything about her, they tell a lot, she's an amazing director, she's a prodigy, she's the successor of her Grandpa, she cured cancer, but we're never shown any of it, and I know next to nothing about our main guy too, he's a loner but we never see, his eyes doesn't sparkle which we never knew, there's just nothing about this guy, so much exposition, bleghh! I hate it...

Truly interesting movie. Brought a new perspective about hardships of fil-making. I haven't done much editing myself, but I somehow felt the pain of cutting "less important" stuff out to shorten the film.

Speaking of which, one thing I disagree strongly is critique about movie lengths lol (2+hrs). I immediately thought about LOTR directors cut. Kingdom of Heaven also comes in mind - I couldn't believe how different and incredibly better the director-cut version was. We should at least agree there are exceptions.

I can totally get Pompo through (maybe the author also intentionally made Pompo a brat for this reason?). I don't think a 12yo will enjoy or understand old classics or 2-3hr long movies. Was it necessary to make Pompo, a 12-14 yo kid though? I don't think the author made her a brat for this reason alone. A 12yo a producer and head of Film-making company? "It's an anime" - I get it, but still, Japan with their cute girls shtick. When it comes to nitpicking, I'd mention childlike appearance of 2 mains too. Kind of ruined the experience for me. Like, the movie is expecting you to take all this seriously, while presenting anime-logic stuff, like 12yo top-producer, "maybe-teen" MC who's a genius at producing and editing etc. Winning Oscar was the least unbelievable part :D

Apart from minor nitpicking above, what I really disliked was the arguably cringe bankers scene and how they decided to fund the movie (especially how it was streamed worldwide, lol).

Anyways, didn't regret watching it. 8/10

It's alright I guess. The characters are fun, story was kinda boring for me, one part was too unrealistic.

Wow! It's a great anime movie. I was worried because some didn't like it, but who cares? Now that I've seen it, it's great!

It’s crazy to think that one of my favorite films would be about a director directing a movie.
