Until now I thought she was the most forgettable member, but I this episode REALLY made me like Shizuku.

Shizuku is not my top 5 favorite and never will, but her character development here is excellent, and that singing will be why I would want to follow Maeda on social media.

I was excited for her song and expected it to be classic movie/musical themed, and also being in black and white, given the episode title. But it ended up being a normal idol song. Kind of a wasted opportunity imo.

As soon as I saw that there was a white and black version of Shizuku, I wondered if they were referencing the film Black Swan (2010). As soon as the whole losing the role part came up, it became even more clear. Of course, in the film the lead struggles with finding the darker part of her personality, and here Shizuku's hidden part of herself seems to try to be a parallel of that. Thankfully, accepting her "darker" side didn't end how Black Swan did.
Like they lowkey mentioned, this episode has similar aspects to the last one, the main problem being expressing one's true self. I think though it isn't as interesting or doesn't seem to effect as much as they think it might, I do like the conclusions, reasons, and transitions of this episode more than the last. There is nothing here that makes me think something doesn't make sense. She's felt the need to hide her real interests and act like the perfect "idol"/person. She approaches her personality as actual theatre, and it's all because she, like Rina, is not great at expressing herself. I can follow it really well and I'm very familiar with that thought process. On another level, there are many anime fans who are "masking", so the similarities might not come as a surprise-- black Shizuka has an actual mask after all.

For some reason though, I feel like I wanted more from Shizuka. Like, I wanted to see more about what that does to her moving forward. Like what about her will actually change if anything? If she's still just acting like a perfect idol then all of this just falls flat. I really wish they gave us something to help illustrate the change more.

Not a bad episode though.
