The term "weeb" has been degraded and memed to the point where there's no real difference between "weeb" and "anime fan" anymore.

A "weeaboo", with a hard "aboo" on the other hand is this:

Depends if you adore that culture so much to the point of wanting to ignore France's dark colonial past , especially in Africa.

Same for Japan. Asians would view them differently compared to Americans and Europeans, who have no experience of being occupied by Japan.

Just like Asians can not comprehend the atrocities Europe suffered in WW2 and the two camp split afterwards. While Western Europeans can not comprehend the atrocities committed during colonialism throughout the world, often boosted by perverting hellenistic and roman culture and civilisation.

Learning another culture should be used to unite, not to divide.

Though when I see anime characters in nazi uniform being accepted outside Japan too, all hope is lost

I personally hate the word weeb to a degree becuase for nearly everything people just say that someone is a fan of this or that. youre A Fan of crime tv series.Youre A Fan of Romance Movies. Youre A Fan of Horror Movies etc. But if youre an anime fan. Youre not called anime fan. No youre a weeb. It makes me always feel like im the odd one out. So odd you made a extra word for me.Thats why I personally just dont like it.

Its like the difference between a Trekkie or Starwars nerd and someone who is simply a fan of those shows. A Trekkie or StarWars nerd will buy tons of merchandise from the show. They will speak made up languages and phrases from the show. Maybe even dress up as characters from the show even though it not Halloween. They will swear these shows/movies are the best things ever since sliced bread. Someone who is simply a fan of StarTrek and Stars will simply watch the movies,maybe even a have a few t-shirts. Weeaboos will do many of those things.They will bastadize Japanese by unnecessarily using Japanese words in place of English words.For example instead of please hand me the butter they will say Onegai hand me the butter.OR instead of saying thats cute cat they will say thats a cute neko. They will swear up and down that Japanese voice actors are better than English ones even thought they only know a tiny handful of Japanese words and phrases. They will sometimes listen to shitty J-pop music. They will dress up as anime characters even though its not Halloween. They may even shave their eyebrows off and put on couple dots over their eyes. They may even adopt other mannerisms from the anime shows they watch. I would say that due to the fact anime doesn't have as large as a general fanbase as Starwars and Startrek does in the US that weebs are a bigger scourge to anime fans than Trekkie and starwars fans are to regular fans.

To me the word weeb is a badge of honor.

An anime fan just likes anime. A weeaboo is somebody who celebrates the entire culture of anime. All weeaboos are anime fans, not all anime fans are weeaboos.

Weebs are just extremist anime fans, and it's up to you if being extreme is good or bad. Most people see weebs as bad because they (we) are literal embodiments of cringe (tbf tho, it's always the case in any fandom. Weebs are only pointed out because anime is getting more popular and social media allows us to express ourselves more freely (thus kinks and stuff that is otherwise an unholy spawn of hell to the general public)
