| Macross is probably the most japanese anime series out there. It is equal parts mecha show and teeny idol show. im not a big fan of either genres so.... shrug |

| Macross series are generally a pretty good watch. My favorites being Macross Frontier, the original SDF Macross, and Macross: Do You Remember Love. I also liked Zero, Plus, and Macross II: Lovers Again. Delta was a disappointment, and I couldn't stand more than a few episodes of Macross 7. | The original macross is quite nice. Macross F started off strongly and ended in a mess. The concept is also much less interesting than the original Macross. In the original Macross the aliens who know only military life were conquered by pop culture, in F pop song simply does superpower and at the end we're fighting against some stupid generic villains who lust for power and nothing else - pretty lame. I have really watch 2 or 3 episodes of Delta... I loved the song in a the first episode but the development after that is way too tropey to keep me interested. |

That's your choice. I still watch some newer Anime, but I have my limits. My scope can only be so broad, and it's broader now that it's ever been, but I won't force myself to watch something that I don't want to watch. |

I think you can get what the story is about but tons or references to the franchise and it's mythology. |
| PS We above mentioned Orguss which is in the same art style and made by the same people that created Macross SDF. I am 22 episodes in the TV and man it's bad written. The visuals decline essentially in the battles. In the beginning they looked better than those in SDF (being way fewer tho) but at this point they are comprised mainly by recycled animation and make no sense. Also as metioned above - tons of elements directly taken from Gundam 0079. I hope the OVA is better. So if we compare Orguss to the role that Giant Gorg has to Gundam 0079 (different story but by the same team and with the same visual aesthetic), Gorg does way better work than Orguss for Macross. |

| I watched the original Macross and Macross: Do You Remember Love? and Macross plus which for me are the peak of the franchise, everything else seems uninterest. I'll eventually get around the other entries but I'm not expecting much from them. |
