| SUCH A GOOD EPISODE. Doffy touching upon what is essentially the heart of One Piece- the most important thing is how you use the ability you have, rather than the ability in and of itself. Animation looked swell too- particularly during the flashback. I though we'd seen everything, but we got to see when Doffy's Haki awakened and how he essentially became the twisted man he is. Trebol nurtured the ultimate evil through a mixture of inherited insanity & ego and festering rage. That's what makes Doffy such an entertaining watch- he is evil both because of nature and nurture...and in his case, it's extremely difficult to divide the two. God, I hate Trebol. He should've been giving Doffy hot cocoa and cookies. Not guns and Devil Fruits. |

| Holy Hell, Doffy is an amazing Villain. After seeing so much of his backstory animated, I can really admit that he is one of the best antagonists ever. |
| Law told Doffy that he “just gathered up a bunch of people who were convenient and called it a family.” This is calling back to the word ‘convenient’, something Lao G described Baby 5 as. From here, to spite Law and probably to make him use up the remainder of his energy, Doffy told Law that killing Corazon took a load off his mind, along with a slew of insults calling him a drag and an eyesore, incompetent, and adopting a cheesy sense of justice. I think the notion of convenience is interesting as there is truth to it. Rather than teaching Baby 5 to value herself he allowed her to behave as the ultimate, loyal tool to their organization. Further, there is an expectation in this family that one will die for Doffy if the occasion arises. Yet unlike Crocodile who didn’t want a family, I do believe Doffy values his family. His acts like allowing Caesar to escape as to save Giolla, and refusing anyone from laughing at Pica are what one could consider unnecessary. If Giolla was set up to die if she must, as later it appeared she was going to be sacrificed, why didn’t he let her go there? One could argue this could all be manipulation, if he treats his people good then they will be loyal until the day they die like Vergo or Monet showed explicitly. But I don’t buy it. Tying back to his biological family, I think it’s implied he felt as though his father betrayed him, he used the language that he ‘forgave’ Homing by killing him. He ritualizes the murdering of his family by using the gun that it appeared Trebol gave him. We saw him sit on the fact that he would have to kill Corazon, as if he was resolving himself over the fact of what was about to happen, and with the line “why must you force me to kill another member of my flesh and blood with my own hands”; I don’t think it’s so black and white. I can’t help but see that little kid that was crying hateful tears inside of him. The kid that learned life was cruel, that people were expendable, and that you had to be ruthless to get by. A kid who wants a family. Maybe this reading is too far into it, but for him, I’d wager this is how he understands family as the only way it will work. Further, I think we should ask what Trebol’s intention was in harnessing Doffy’s evil. Is he not using Doffy because Doffy is convenient to him in the same way Law thinks Doffy is using his family? It’s hard to parse but definitely curious. Beyond the analysis, I love the harsh shading and red glasses we see of Doffy sometimes like when he rose. The attempt to stomp Law’s head in was disgusting and I loved that, his line “thanks for your suicide attack” made me cackle as his lines always do, and that kick Luffy did trading with Doffy was like, Jojo leveling panelling!! Luffy not needing to speak in that moment spoke more words than any would have. And the fight has begun! Law hurt Doffy enough that Luffy may now have a chance. But Trebol, if he starts to be more active, on top of the conquerors clash should not be easy. Last episode I said Law’s past may have hardened him to the point of being impenetrable, but like Law, Doffy has lost everything, and not only that, he lost everything from a position of absolute power. He knows if he loses everything again, he can build it back up and he knows that better than anyone. |
| I can only imagine how frustrating it was for Law to see that all of his efforts were pretty much all for naught because he took too long to deliver the final blow. It's a good thing that Luffy's there to back him up and make sure that Doflamingo is taken down once and for all. It was very fascinating to see the Haki of the Conqueror being used for combative purposes outside of serving as crowd control. Trebol being the one who gave Doflamingo the power and motivation to take his revenge also explained why the latter owes the former so much to the point of not punishing him despite his failure to protect Sugar and keep Dressrosa within his control. |

| 10/5 episode. That was unbelievably in a league of its own. Doflamingo's malevolent madness just continues to leave me watching in wonder. Based on the reactions from Law & Trebol, I'm getting the impression that there are different tiers of Conqueror's Haki. The arena match with Don Chinjao mentioned this before about how the New World is crawling with CH users and that the hunt for One Piece is essentially a battle royale to determine the strongest among them. On another note, those black & red clashes are starting to make me nostalgic for Bleach. |

| My god. What an episode. Law would have got 9999.999999% of people but Mingo in that top of the top. The imagery of him this episode was so good. Amazing animation. The heavenly deamon. Then Luffy saving law. The supreme king hacki. Luffy looking like he about to beat him and then mingo just goes another level. Man this is top notch one piece. |
| So last episode there was someone calling Law's shambles with the body double "the biggest bullshit" they've ever seen even though it was well within the powers Law has been shown to establish and stupidly comparing it to Pell managing to survive a bomb explosion point blank. Yet this episode they have no qualms about Doflamingo managing to stay alive by stitching his internal organs together. While Doflamingo had a point about knowing how to use Devil Fruit powers really changes how useful they seem, he shouldn't have been able to do what he did. One, Doflamingo is not medically educated to the same degree Law is; Two, Law's attack wasn't supposed to just slice up his organs but completely destroy them. No amount of stitching or accelerated 'first aid' would allow him to do that and continue fighting. Feel bad for Law this episode, because he had a beautifully done attack sequence for his Gamma Knife...yet Luffy instantly one-upped that moment simply by stopping Doflamingo form stamping on Law's head. Wonder if there's some actual explaination for Doflamingo's haki giving off a purple aura compared to the red we've seen so far, or whether thats just a visual indicator of his pure evil madness. |
