My wisdom teeth grew out nicely! Is it because I'm a backward proto-human with a larger jaw?

Lol, we can hardly afford a dentist. I don't think my wisdom teeth are going anywhere even if they should. I forgot whether the dentist told me whether they'd be a problem or not last time I went for a "free" cleaning (which they didn't do because I needed money).

Anyone have a good dentist/service they can recommend? Like, my would-be bill came out to $4,000+ while my bro's came out to $5000+ so my family's like, "No".

For anyone needing free dental care you can try Missions of Mercy. They do large events in different states once a year. They do extractions, cleanings, fillings, partial dentures, some root canals as well. You can have multiple procedures depending on the size of the line and how early you get there.

They won't do things that require massive cutting though. So no taking out impacted wisdom teeth I'm afraid. If the tooth has broken the gumline they will remove it.

There's also Dentristry from the heart. Again extractions, fillings, and cleanings. Usually they limit you to one procedure or one tooth though. They have a lot more events because individual dentist offices volunteer across the country.

You can also try your local County Health Departments, some have dentists attached that can do things a lot cheaper then a regular dentist.

@Crystal; Wow, this is really helpful! Thank you so much! I'm going to run these by my mom tomorrow. We thought we were going to have to get some stuff done in Mexico or Canada, but this is really encouraging. Thank you!

Sometimes not getting them removed is a medical issue which will develop problems in the future. The wisdoms are an extra set of molars (obviously) that grow in the way they do because the human skull has evolved in such a way that the brain grew larger, but the jaw couldn't accumulate all that space, so the wisdoms grow under the tissue. Due to their growth, they push against the rest of the teeth and that may allow them to damage nerves or damage teeth affected by the alignment. That's why you get them pulled out now while the wisdoms haven't fused with your jawbone, usually in your teens or your early-mid 20s. Once the wisdoms fuse, it will make it exponentially more difficult to remove.

OT: I got my wisdoms pulled, experience may vary.

I had all four removed at the same time, awake through the whole process. When you're awake, you don't feel anything because of how numb your face gets (they injected the anesthetic at least 8 times). Recovery isn't difficult, in fact it doesn't really hurt as long as you remember to follow the doctor's instructions (ice your face 20 minutes per side, take the prescribed pain medication, don't eat hard foods) but your face gets really swollen up, and the fact that you got your wisdoms pulled does make it difficult to talk. Otherwise, in about 3-4 days (your swelling may not have gone down by then, mine took a week and a half to return to normal) you should be able to return to your normal habits.

Though let the record show that I have a very high tolerance to pain.

Got all of mine removed last year. One of them was impacted and was surgical, so my dentist recommended I get them all surgically removed under general anesthesia. One week later I was getting admitted to the hospital because my surgery was scheduled for the afternoon. Had a fun chat with him in the OR, next thing I know I'm in recovery, throat dry as heck, and not able to feel my face. One hour later I was eating ice cream (doing so with a numb face is a v awkward experience) I went home a couple of hours later and recovered in peace. I had some painkillers for the pain, was put on antibiotics and anti inflammation meds. I'm glad I have chosen this path and not removed them under local anesthetic at the dental clinic. I saw nothing, I felt nothing, and it was a very positive experience (it did cost me an arm and a leg though).

I'm going to need to get mine out within a year or so. When I got my braces off last October I was told that but I haven't made any arrangements about that yet. I imagine I'll be getting all 4 out at the same time and it's not something I'm looking forward to :/

Bruh I had to have all 4 of mine taken out too, my reason was that they caused me severe headaches.

I still remember I had mine taken out when I was 18 and I chose to stay awake and take a numbing shot, the sound when they are taking the teeth out is awful.. iirc I think it was sounding something like glass breaking. And yeah TONS of blood, I had an empty bottle when I left the dentist and 3/4th of the bottle was filled with blood before it finally eased down(with patches in my mouth to absorb blood too).

I got all four of mine out at the same time, but I had it surgically done so I wasn't awake. I would hate to have to go back to get the others removed knowing what the recovery is like to be honest. :')

It depends on the person and how hard the tooth is to remove, it's not actually supposed to hurt. My sister had 2 removed and she was fine (like really completely fine). I feel like it's just a stereotype and an excuse for people to complain, but I guess it might be bad dentists or especially difficult removals as well.
