Well I wanted Light to win but I didn't think he would. The first half of the series is the best except for the parts with Light chained to L but the second half was pretty good too.

Y'know, I hated the ending...then I pondered on it for a while. Didn't even bother updating MAL on its status before rating it. I realized that it was a perfect ending for it, as so did many others, I guess. Really shows a great example of how this is a rotten world. I'm gonna miss my Misa; the last scene really did it for me. I guess I expected this ending but didn't wanna accept it.

*I saw this years ago, just replying to it now The ending is so perfect because it show's Light's true self. Throughout the story we see the world through Light's twisted views of ethics. At the end we see him as he truly is, an insane psychopath. The drastic change of view points emphasizes the shock of realizing that Light is the actual villain.

Masterpiece for me Death Note is really to see. I said at the story was really something pushed characters with complex and varied psychology. There is not here a Manichean struggle of good against evil kind , but rather a philosophical battle between the various thoughts of the main characters . The best part of being animated arm mental iron are the heroes and the police , who will make the first mistake loses . That was understood well crafted characters, like solid turnaround story , scary , sad , dramatic, epic anthology . At a technical level , the action is really made by sets of images rather stunning , making the anime very energetic. Cartoon characters and scenery is very well done, even if it may be a bit shocked by the design of the shinigami , but it must be seen also as a representative of fatal thoughts of the character and status of the god of death . The music on it is beautiful and even though the anime is great and that we want to know quickly the rest of the story , it still does not pass the opening and ending of excellent quality and noise visual transferring the spirit of the manga . Finally an anime that I highly recommend (note still sensitive souls ) so I gratifies a 10, just look to see that my rating is well deserved I think

Just finished the series, what a crazy and well concluded episode to wrap up an amazing series. I am not sure whether i liked the idea of light going full wacko there at the end though, i already knew he would die (spoilers everywhere) but it seemed more fitting that he would go out composed instead of ranting and raving and not accepting his loss But i guess it's a good way of showing that while he may be brilliant and intelligent, trying to make the world a better place etc etc, in the end his is still a psychopath. The episode itself was 100% predictable the whole way through though, it was obvious that near had already seen through his plan, but that doesnt mean it still wasnt enjoyable to watch. I'm giving the series a 9 and not a 10 because the music taste wasnt that great personally for me (second half), first half was pretty good :p

Stop whining about the ending already! It IS the perfect ending for this perfect anime. What did you expected? Light becoming a "god" and ruling the world with what HE calls "justice"? How ridiculous! By the way, he WAS wrong, killing criminals and even innocent people, even a child can tell that's the wrong thing to do. I was really happy seeing him die like that, well, it was funnier in the manga, but I liked this ending more because of L's mirage ♥♥♥ Nothing wrong about Near and Mello, not as smart as L but they're good characters. Misa was annoying me all the time, bad character, no real character developing, it's all about Light, a liar who doesn't even like her, and she knows that. The only other thing I hated about this anime is how they killed most of my favourite characters, L, Mello, Matt, Mr Yagami, Misora Naomi, Iber and Weddy. Overall 10/10 perfect. Code Geass sucks, by the way, stop recommending it for DN fans, cuz it's really really stupid.

I liked the entire show up until the last episode. L was far superior to Near and the other dude as far as a character goes and it just really pissed me off to see Light defeated by such a lame ass character. I am fine with Light dying. I didn't want to see his world succeed. but I wanted to see it at his own hands or even by Ryuk just saying "sorry, I can't let u be a god, goodbye." ANYTHING but Light losing to such a scrub. I really wanted it to be like, Light winning, and then as he realizes everyone around him is dead, he realizes that he is a murderer and has gone too far. Then decides for the good of humanity, to write his own name in the book. That would've been my ideal ending, I just hated the fact that the badass genius character we spent 36 episodes loving, gets beat by a couple of immature kids and then proceeds to embarrass himself for the entire last episode.

Well, I need to watch something more lighthearted now. The Light and L rivalry is definitely the highlight in this. L is probably one of my favorite characters now. Great character, I can see a lot Niizuma in him, interesting to see considering how tonally different Bakuman is. Another problem I had was how ridiculous the scheming became. It just felt pretty illogical and unnatural by the time L died and the last 12 episodes were kind of a bore tbh. Would rate around 7.5-8/10.

I'm honestly shocked by how many people liked the second half of death note. It's been a while since I've seen it. It insulted me so badly the first time that I never wanted to put myself through it again. As far as the ending goes, it's bad for two major reasons, anything else is up to people's individual opinion. The first is that although Light is defeated, he only loses because Mikami messes up. I didn't buy for a second that Light would let something like that stop him, he's the type of person who should've had a contingency plan. The fact that he got caught in such a stupid way was insulting to the incredible plot of the first half of the show. Secondly, Death Note was an amazing show for two reasons, the first was the amazing battle of wits between Light and L and the second was because the show defied people's expectations. The main character is a villain, he actually manages to kill L and, at least in the first half, it seems like he will succeed in becoming the god of a new world. Then the show does a complete 180 at the end and gave the fans the obvious ending. Of course, we all know that the bad guy is supposed to lose but Death Note was the one show that strived to defy staples of television and in it's final moments it pulled the cheesiest most cliche move of all. Good always wins. Sorry but the ending wasn't good enough. Light and the fans deserved better.

Not sure how I feel towards the ending. I kinda wanted Light to win and become God of the new world and I especially didn't want Near to win. But this ending feels satisfying. It was nice to see Misa again, sad that it looked like she was going to jump. I do feel like they should have shown Light's mother and sister though. The whole making the new notebook in a day thing seems really unrealistic but in a way it seemed like it did make sense. I just can't believe that Light would overlook something like that. Matsuda's reaction was heartbreaking to see. He'd always been the one who'd believed in Light when everyone else doubted him. All in all, Death Note was a really enjoyable series that kept me entertained all the way through. Despite not getting a perfect ending, I'd still rate it as one of the best series I've seen.

I'm glad there are some ppl that see Death Note as I do... It was always special that Light was kinda the bad guy for the good.... and the guys saying its sad about Matsuda, because he believed in Light till the end... I guess he was kinda gullible... If Light tried to persuade him to Kira's side he would have agreed helping him or sth. they even could have pulled out Misa... In the end Ryuk could have given her some Paper again and told her the story .. bla bla bla.. shorten her life for 1/2 and she just kill all looking through the roof. ( Btw Misa should life for like 1000 years... I think she was commiting suicide cause she was written in the Death note) And making the exact same copy of that thing is a Buster for the Ending. And Normally Light would have told him sth like "Be sure to write it on a real real real real Paper" cause he usually does that... Excuse my Bad English ^^ 'Its kinda late right now and I'm from Germany. Just finished rewatching it.

Misa-Misa ;-; (seems like I was right in ep 31, Mikami just added another fail point in Light's plan. Which proved to fail) Well what can I say interesting and really good anime, I must say it was worth watching the last episodes too. It's a sad ending though, as every loved character died except for Near. 10/10 either-way. (Edit: I misspelled Near's name xD, lol had to edit my previous posts where I misspelled his name xD)

From episode 26 this anime turns to shit. How fucking convinent for Near that everything goes his way and Light becomes stupid? Seriously what the fuck is this shit? Light would be cautioned enough to have Mikami have a seperate page with him to make sure nothing goes wrong. Light is a genius throughout the first 25 episodes but becomes a dumbass in the next part. It seemed to me the mangaka just wanted to end the series, when it had so much potential to go on. Even though im rewatching the series im still dissapointed. Could've been a masterpiece but the mangaka got lazy and gave up on his own story. And its full of plot holes and bullshit. And Near suddenly just guesses all the answers. Gonna have to drop the rating a little. So much bullshit happens once L dies. Dissapointing as fuck.

Well... what can I say, I am really speechless right now. I rated it OK since I don't like ending too much. At the end, from my perspective I conclude that Light was the most intelligent. Light's plan was perfect and he would had beaten the Near if that Mikami hadn't screwed up. I am curious about what would have happened to Misa and how come she learns Light's condition, I mean Light was dying and she was standing at the edge of rooftop at the same time, right? Light's flashback of himself and L were really touching. After L's death I really wanted Light to live and see him rule the world since he was one evil "good" guy who wants to change the world for good. Nevertheless it was perfect ending for anime and I enjoyed watching it. It was one of the best series I have ever watched.

I hate the ending Mikami seems to be the level of light and ryuzaki but why dint he notice that the real notebook was stolen Light and Mikami lost there cool Light could have done that all of they're names where written xcept for N and then N will be executed, but he has to sacrifice Mikami though

Bleh this sucks. I wanted Light to win so much. I HATE Near. I would of preferred L to win over Near. I was half expecting Ryuk to save Light. Oh well. OK ending I suppose. Anyone know if Misa died? At the end, it shows Misa standing on the edge of a building. Does that mean she committed suicide due to Light's death?

Well I've seen some reviews about not liking the secodn half of Death Note. I must say that I did like it. About the last episodeI didn't liked it at all. It leaved a bad taste in my mouth. I expected more from Light. He was almost a God and he only lost because of Mikami's mistake. Also he behave like a kid after he lost. He started crying and whining. I mean i knew he was a bad loser, but to do that scene was too much, specially from a "God". I did expected that Near would find out about the hidden Death Note, but not that he could win beacuse of someone else mistake. And at the end i felt sorry for Misa-Misa. I didn't want her to die. She was been played by Light the whole time and finally she kill herself..... too sad I was expecting a second ending too, maye where Light end up with Misa after losing his memories and the notebooks been taking away by Ryuk. Anyway, i would give it a 7/10 to this episode and a 10/10 to the anime. The best i have seen so far. But i still have a lot of them in my Plan to watch list.

I absolutely hated the ending. They made light look like a amateur and a psycho when in fact he is a mastermind God who keeps himself under control at ALL times. Either they should have left it at ep 26 or ended it where light wins and not that little kid. And lights servant should have had a piece of the death note or followed instructions. Honestly if lights servant followed instructions and not do anything until the following day Light would have won. I hated the ending/outcome. Im totally pissed.

Kayrhandros said: Ditto... after episode 36 I was expecting they made this one good. I already knew who's gonna win... I already knew Light was gonna die, that Misa was gonna die, that Mikami was gonna die... yay for you manga spoilers! Eitherway, I didn't know how they'd reach that outcome... and yeah it was pretty lame... Not that it is the producers fault or anything... since they followed the manga I guess. But yeah, like Mefist said Light was made a fool in the end... and Mikami was even more idiotic. I'll say it again... Death Note should have ended in episode 26 Everything after that has been boring, unexceptinal and lacked brilliantism. I thought it could be saved after seeing ep 36... and I was wrong. It seems like Death Note changed writers after episode 26, honestly... Shame on you, indeed! I have to agree with this. While I still enjoyed the show and am going to give it a 10/10, the last arc just was not as good. They could have wrapped it up on ep 26(with light dying here, as well) I was actually expecting everyone to die in the end(I assumed Light was gonna die after like episode 2, so no surprise there,) I still liked the ending though. Light did what he has done many times before, brag about being Kira seconds before the person dies. He does it again here, but he relies on another person. He sealed his own fate by putting his life in the hands of someone who calls him god. It is an oddly fitting end to be defeated in such a meek way. Light was always able to fix any small mistake he made, but he took control away from himself and did something he NEVER did. Misa became a forgettable character in the last 11 episodes, I am not really satisfied with the way they wrapped her character up. That is really my only complaint on this ending, and it's a miinor one. 10/10 it was a great show, even if the spk arc was a bit dull. |

I still can't get over the ending of Death note, the 2nd half was just so different from the first half... Based on the serie Bakuman I like to think the mangaka actually felt like ending DN at episode 25 but he got pushed by his editor/SJ to make it longer since the anime was coming and it would be great for the sales if they both ran simultaneously but since the mangaka had in mind to end it quick and intense he suddenly had to make up a new part, thus the 2nd half after L was created. I don't know if it's true but that's my guess, it does explain why the 2nd half felt rather underwhelming and the ending is a bit... disappointing for some. I wonder if the mangaka intended to let Light actually win in the end, as he should have if the series ended at 25. Though I doubt SJ would let him, seeing as Light is portrayed as the "bad guy" and the "good guy" has to win in th end, following the shounen manga rules.

An anime-long Light vs L would have been very cliche. Losing half way through added more tension since there is no one to face light anymore. And working their way around that was awesome. I also liked that they did not make the new characters as smart as L, made it more realistic. |

I'm speechless...but awesome ending to a outstanding anime. Atleast Misa didn't die or it looks like she's about to commit suicide during the credits. I feel bad for her to be honest. She lost Light, her truly and only love. Light, I kinda feel pity for him, although he needed to die for all the things he's done. So many unspeakable crimes. The death note consumed him and made him into a evil person. He could've had a normal life but the death note ruined his life. Seeing his last moments was very sad to see. Justice has to be served at one point. Whatta great anime! I enjoyed it! Damn I'm gonna miss it! It kept me questioning. I was expecting Ryuk to save him haha but nah, all bad things come to an end I guess. I did agree with some people, after L died, it kinda went downhill but I still liked it. Anime also gives you an good life lesson. 10/10

Thoughts on the show: I just think that this show brings up some really good points about justice and hypocrisy. L and all the police force break many many laws and at one point (the chief) threaten to kill people just to get closer to catching Kira. They tie up Misa in an inhumane way just because she's suspected to be Kira, they bug and put surveillance cameras in the house, etc. It's akin to the idea that giving someone the death penalty for murder is ok. Is it really? Doesn't that make you the same as the murderer? When chief yagami is pretending that he is going to execute Light and then commit suicide, if Light really were Kira he was going to do it, and he would have been just like Kira. This is tied into the psychological principles of the fundamental attribution error and the actor-observer bias. Ending thoughts: I did not like how the anime ended because Light never messed up. His plan was flawless, but Mikami screws up just once. That was stupid, since Mikami was totally devoted to his "God," he should not have done anything without Light's command.

First of all, the show was too long, and I didn't like the fact that it wasn't L who captured Yagami. I think that if it ended with L capturing Yagami, it would be better; for me at least. Second of all, for those who say that L was captured so stupidly, I guess I kind of understand why he was captured that way. maybe because he was so blinded with his ego and pride that it made him certain he will win not needing a plan B. It was a good thing how the plot went in the end, because if Yagami won, this anime would be, officially, the worst I've seen..

L was not captured stupidly; it was a well thought out plan by Light. And no he didn't lose because of his ego. He was at a disadvantage. |

SPOILER ALERT I knew that Light wouldn't win, but still kinda hoped he would. Anyway, I found this episode hilarious. Imagine if Light would have won and Ryuk would just be like "Well, that was fun. Now that it's over, I'm taking the Death Note back and going to my own world. Bye.". That would be extremely hilarious, but it would ruin the show. Oh well, this was fun, I laughed a lot watching these series and even cried a little (when L died). Great show, 10/10.

I am so, so, so, so, so extremely glad Light finally died. Oh my god I just wanted everything to fall apart around him. "I win!" ugh NO LIGHT. YOU ARE BAKA. PLEASE DIE. I wish I could've strangled him myself. I wish L could have been the one to capture him. I was absolutely captured by this series but after L died and all these other folks joined in on this L bandwagon... it just wasn't the same. L was an AMAZING character. But nevertheless, it was still a great series which does, I think, hold true til the end. I feel like it sort of wobbled after L's death but I think it did pick back up in the end. Should have had more Ryuk in the end though. I missed him and his silly commentary and apple chasing. I miss you L. <3 9/10

Aww well I guess I was kind of disappointed that Light died. I didn't really like the last episode because it was kind of uncomfortable to watch Light struggle because he was caught red handed. Correct me if I'm wrong but why didn't Mikami look through the windows on top of the building? Well he still had a fake copy of the Death Note so it wouldn't have mattered anyways. Light should have had a backup plan even though he was for sure he was going to win. It's funny how everything backfired on Light. All this wouldn't have happened if he had the eyes. But because of his pride he didn't accept the deal. I don't really need to put this in as a spoiler because it really isn't. One thing I don't like about the director's cut scene that was supposed to happen after the last episode was the shinigami with the spikey hair and guitar. It's not like I dislike him as a character I hate how everybody believes that he is Light reincarnated. No. He's not. He's just a character, shinigami to be more specific, that gets bored with the Shinigami World and wants to see something interesting just like Ryuk. He was just made to "continue" on the storyline of the Death Note and leave the anime off as a cliffhanger to keep the audience guess what will happen when he enters the human world. Will there be another person like Light to make things interesting? That shinigami is just a trivial character. It's my opinion so please don't flame me on that. What I really liked is this alternate ending to Death Note. It brings out even more of what a psychopath Light is. I really enjoyed the anime. It kept me hanging off from my chair and had me guessing of what's going to happen. The physiological, calculations aspect of the anime really mind-fucked me. Death Note had me smiling when Light planned his devious and psychopathic plans and when it actually worked it made me snicker to myself. It kind of made me question how sane I am. My favorite scene in the entire anime was when Light was in a whole conversation about Kira with Naomi and when Light had finally gotten a real name from her he revealed that he was Kira. Loved her reaction. Probably one of the best scenes if not the best. Rate: 10/10

I didn't really like the ending that much. It seemed far fetched to think that there wouldn't be a back up plan, and the idea of Near's counters seemed kind of..... like bull. Also, when did dude.... I guess, X Kira, learn who the hell Kira was? If Light didn't own a death note anymore, there was no way, even with the eyes, that he could tell Light was Kira, unless he was previously told, and unless I missed that part, I don't think that happened. By that deduction, I think the best outcome would have been for X Kira to write everybody's names in the death note, killing everybody in the room, including Near and Light, which could have made Light upset that X Kira would write his name, thus revealing himself as Kira before dying, but, as a part of Light's master plan, he had already written X-Kira's name on a piece of the notebook so that once he killed the people in the warehouse, he would die, and in Light's plan, he would have been the only one alive. That would have killed everyone with ties to the notebook, Ryuk would have taken all of the real notebooks, and boom, fade to black. That.... is my perfect Death Note ending. AND, while I'm on this subject, how in the hell did Light keep his memory? Did he have a death note on him at the end? In all I counted four, Ryuk had his, the police had one I'm guessing from Rem, Near had one from X-Kira, which I'm guessing came from Rem that she got from the shinigami that died, and that other shinigami took his back after Melo's building blew up. So how did he keep his memory? And if he did have a book, why didn't he just get rid of it at the end and use the "I have no idea what's going on" card again?

And he was busted with solid evidence he can't use that card. And even if he did Ryuk still would have killed him. Also this is one of the reasons I prefer the manga's ending because in the manga Light refuses to give up to the very end, so even after being shot multiple times and when he clearly lost, he still thinks of doing something to win. He ends up begging Ryuk to kill everyone, but instead Ryuk writes Light's name and kills him. tl;dr Playing dumb would not have worked, but it was more obvious why it wouldn't in the manga. |

The second half is an extreme example of shitty writing. Honestly it felt insulting that they thought that was an acceptable way to end the series. Should have ended once L died and even though they decided to continue, Light still should have won but he got completely shafted by the writing. The terrible ending was even more unbearable considering how well done the first arc was. Ending made no sense.
