Yeah, This is why I said before that this could have been the end of the series, returning to reality and facing its problems to make sense of the Isekai world. But as always they screwed up and probably he no longer "needs" to return to the real world, because he already apologized to his parents (in a fucking illusion, to top it all off). It ends up being a complete nonsense the purpose of the episode.

Its just always nonsense and delusion when it comes to this topic for isekais. Heck, these protagonists for whatever self-insert reason never gives a shit about their previous world connections like FUCKING FAMILY/FRIENDS at the start. And when they confront it, it just comes off as inconsistent. Im looking forward to Mushoku Tensei which doesnt have this problem

episode clearly shows he wanted to escape his dad s shadow and have expectations be placed on him from zero and that all his friends abandoned him because of his facade to try to make people laugh, but now that the dude s clear headed enough and realizes he left his parents behind and cant come back (which he breaks down after it finally confronts him with the ´´you ll just pay it back by taking care of us when we re old´´ the episode also clearly shows he did not give a shit about them during season 1 his biggest wish being for them to blame him for not doing anything something he clearly shows to regret in the episode.

i feel like we ve reached the point of this comment section where we re past reasonable critics and people who enjoyed the episode and have started getting into either people here only for the sufferu and action (lol boring gimme death.) alongside people desperate to get the score to go down because ´´Re Zero has to be overrated´´ and ´´Re Zero is isekai so it cant be good!´´so from here on out it ll be a mix of late comers who are only commenting now and full on hate flames, 9 pages is a good number to end on atleast.

Kinda boring episode, but the conversation with his mom made up for it. (a little)
And I suppose the next ep will be better again.

His parents seem great, lucky son.

why are you so offended? calm down buddy. season one made me emotional multiple times but this episode wasn't it for me stop being so hurt

I'm not hurt or offended. I was just giving you a heads up. This season is more on the drama side with slower buildup & consistent darker themes, as opposed to season 1 which had more sudden shock factor and gruesome horror thrown in between fluffy and light-hearted moments. Moreover, this season is dialogue-heavy (less "flashy" compared to S1), you'll have to rely more on reading between the lines, and analyzing the dialogues to understand the characters better.

We can see lot more meaning behind all of his dialogues and actions in Season 1 if we analyze the dialogues in this episode and view things in retrospection. For example:-

His arguments with Julius in the royal palace when he made a complete fool out of himself.

And connecting it to:-

And many more..

I never said that the episode was unnecessary or bad. I just did not enjoy it as much, I did not feel invested into the moment, it didn't connect with me, shit happens. You literally called me out, told me I'm not a normal human because I wasn't emotionally impacted in this episode. You told me to go watch dragonball or some other shounen if I don't want to see other people crying (which makes no sense because often times shounen series have lots of emotional value in them). You were triggered and went in the offensive. There are countless of anime that made me ball my eyes out, which had nothing to do with shounen at all.

Not gonna lie, I was cringing last episode when I saw this episode would be about Subaru's past... but this was really well executed and really well written. Subaru's actions came across as realistic and his eventual self-acceptance was very well done. Must've been quite difficult for such a prideful man. I gotta give credit where credit is due, great episode.

Nope.

If you'd said it like "I didn't feel invested/impacted" then I wouldn't have said anything.

But your statement was "everyone in here crying like how." :/

Which pretty much comes off as if you're calling out to everyone who cried.

But, okay, maybe even I came off rude. My apologies.

Not really. There was a lot to take from this episode, aside from the fact that Subaru finally got a chance to bid farewell to his parents (though just an illusion) because he'll probably never see them again.

We can see lot more meaning behind all of his dialogues and actions in Season 1 if we analyze the dialogues in this episode and view things in retrospection. For example:-

Ok you can elaborate, but that's the big takeaway. Haven't read the novels but I hope in the end he does some growing up (more than he has already) and comes back to the real world and actually takes care of his parents, if im being cheesy actually know a real world Emilia in school too.

The episode was nice, Subaru's parent's are pretty cool, Subaru's dad is like Guy Sensei from Naruto, the music was nice as well.

About the comedy in this episode, it had "okay-ish" comedy in some parts and bad forced comedy in other parts, I didn't liked how they shoehorned a comedy in the middle of an emotional moment for example, when Subaru's dad kicked him in the head after Subaru's emotional speech, that type of comedy isn't really needed in those serious moments and it ruins it for me.

That being said, it was a nice episode, It didn't gave me teary eyes but I still enjoyed the episode.

I feel like 30% of this season so far has just been MC crying like a small child while being told it is ok to cry, so cringe. Seriously has he cried in every episode so far? Struggling to remember what the appeal of S1 one other than waifus, I think it was the brutal savagery allowed by the rewinding, but now its starting to feel like sword art online or something. smh

"Hypocrite that complains about how puerile and cliche anime is"....pretty self explanatory, also "crying" for? So he just cries random out of context without a reason for him to do so?.....yeah sure. Also also 30% of this season? Like what only this episode?....SAO? BrUh...this comment its so bad in its essence that i hope its just a bad troll lol....may i also add "so cringe" for the extra salt kekw

Wow, I'm surprised Subaru's parents didn't die a horrible death at the end. So Subaru was having mental problems (often leads to suicide) - This explains why he was so OK with appearing in a new world.

This episode really outstood from the rest of the show, but I just felt something was off. And I'm talking about the relationship Subaru has with his parents. I see them a bit... superficial? I don't know how explain it myself... And their personalities felt too unnatural for me, especially his mother's.

4/5 for me, though. It was really nice to see actual backstory for Subaru's previous life.

Its a mix of foreshadow cuts from season 1 (Echidna, Garfiel and Subaru s dad were all referenced in the novels before their appearances in this season.)alongside Subaru just really wanting to be set free from his dad s shadow, even after he pipes down from knowing he doesnt have a super ability besides the painful one he starts over working for Roswaal happy to have expectations placed on him for himself instead of because he was his dad s kid. There s also still lots of surviving foreshadows to the core of these issues from Subaru in season 1 (besides him acting out angrily.) for example Subaru crying during the mansion arc as Rem was revealed to be his killer alongside saying he really did care about them there s:´´Why do you all always leave me?!´´ and Subaru s ´´you think you re so tough using your daddy s title!´´ to Julius in the royal selection.

Very generic episode. Blatant attempt at feelsy stuff, but quite messy and very unconvincing. Lacking context too - "lets throw this character bit here, cause we have a trial excuse and its magic or something so anywthing goes"

This was a great episode, it handled itself extremely well and helped better mold Subaru's character, but there's just one complaint I can't avoid mentioning.
His obsession with Emilia makes no sense. In this episode his love for Emilia is just so jarring and came across as forced. He barely knows her, and he's obsessed with her because she helped him once. His love is one sided which makes it weirder. When you stop and think about it its just so stupid, especially when Rem has had a bigger impact on him than Emilia did.

Despite how well written the story is in general, his obsession with Emilia will always be a stain on the story. It really needs to stop.

i feel like its more of a point where Subaru did not fall in love with Emilia in episode 1,he had a mini crush on her because she looked like the silver haired heroines he liked (said crush being reinforced by his interactions with her in the first arc.) the point where it switched into really falling in love with her was when she was his saving grace when he was starting to crack in the mansion arc giving him that moment of comfort, that s when he fell in love with her for real. And at this point he has already remarked in an earlier episode that he feels the same way about Rem and Emilia to which he apologizes to Emilia in episode 2.

For the child to leave before their parents is a sin that must be borne by both parents and the child.

I cried a bit.. Okay, I lied. I cried a bit more than that. If you haven't noticed yet, the episode was almost 30 minutes long. Studio Fox is doing some work here. A bit of Rem is always appreciated because it's likely that there won't be any Rem in this sequel.

Kept expecting that Subaru would get kicked out of this "dream" halfway through or every time he "realizes" this is fake. I'm pleasantly surprised. I loved this episode. You really can see how Subaru was raised and how he has his happy-go-lucky, but enduring personality.

Even though this is my favourite episode so far, I hate that I ugly sobbed this entire episode. Definitely some good words to take away.

About time that we seen Subaru finally break down after all the trauma he's gone through.

Also super random but do you think the Appa guy in the first few eps was purposely his imagination of his dad/a good dad, or was it just a coincedence.... the same energy?

Was boring compared to last 3. Disappointed how the episode didn't tell anything about how Subaru ended up in Re Zero world even though it spent the whole episode Subaru conquering himself with all the parent talk, which was just most likely a vision from the trial.

Putting a brave face on at the mansion until he felt sick.....

Subaru to Rem: "I wanted to be told to give up...." and in this episode he said that he wanted his parents to kick him out so that he'd have a REASON to give up. Because all he does when things get hard is look for a REASON to RUN-AWAY ("Please Rem runaway with me") and GIVE UP.

Yea there's a lot of instances that shows the kind of person Subaru really is. And that's why this anime is a borderline master class in story telling because of the layered story telling.

If anyone doesn't get that then this anime isn't for them. Point blank period.
