Just joined the club and I don't know if it's been asked already but I'm looking for a manga like Tokyo Crazy Paradise :) I've already read Grand Sun and Gokusen which have the gang theme and have read Ouran Highschool Host Club, Hana-Kimi and Power to get the gender bender. Can anyone recommend something that's as long (100+ chapters) with one or both of these themes. Oh and I love a good comedy too ^_^

Maybe try Love in the Mask. Haven't read it, but read about it, that there's bot gender bender and gangsters. And it's also long and finished, so no waiting for new chapters. :P

I did some searching for gang themes and shoujo and came up with these (I filtered out the yaoi :P): http://goo.gl/dwBjEa

I've not really read much gang stuff myself, the ones I have are mostly yankee/comedies and mainly middle or high school gangs as apposed to (for lack of a better term) "real gangs".

Still, here's some things that I enjoyed that had gangs of some kind in:

Durarara!!
Great Teacher Onizuka
Holyland
The Breaker

So basically what I'm looking for is something similar to The Breaker and Rosario+Vampire.
Lots of action and with hidden plot , MC guy weak in the beginning and then gradually becoming one of the strongest characters. etc.

Also I prefer serious series.
(I don't mind comedy if it isn't overdone)

Yankee-kun to Megane-chan , is a good choice. Though it isn't shoujo but shounen , still has Romance tag. (And it has very little ecchi) Comedy is also top notch and lots of delinquents , so you can expect gangs. I highly recommend this.

Hmm I don't know much about Rosari+vampire as I haven't read it, but I have read The Breaker. Holyland doesn't have a lot of comedy and is very much about a weak MC who seeks to become strong but doesn't really have much of a hidden plot.
I have read a little of Blood and Steel as well and that seems again like a strength gaining concept but not too sure about hidden plots.
Girls of the Wild's is the same thing and is a shiny colorful web comic, and is one of my favorites so I would strongly recommend this.
As for any others, it is long, but if you like fighters then maybe read Hajime no Ippo, it is a fast read and has the strength gaining repetitiveness, but is more on the comedy side of things.
I can't really think of anything else that I have read, after a quick search Gamaran and Kenji also look like they might fit, but I might have come up short in terms of plot twists/hidden plots :( sorry, hopefully someone might have something else in mind.

(Sidenote: is New Waves any good? I've been putting it off until it's finished so I can read it all in one go.)

How about Mahou Sensei Negima! , Veritas, Medaka Box, The Legend of Maian, Kekkaishi – they are all shounen types though.
More serious ones – Shin Angyo Onshi, Threads of Time
Or not very serious (kind of parody) but with a story and action - Needless

Personally I think NW is not as good as the original though it’s not bad either. The chapters are too short and plot progress is very slow. The mc gets to fight a lot but the pattern is mostly the same in every fight and gets a little boring and that is with 130+ chapters out…well as I’ve said it’s not that bad so if you liked the original it’s worth trying out.

I found shounens were a good place for me to start, though a lot of them are long and long and....long:
Bleach (still publishing - nearly finished...supposedly)
Dragon Ball
Fairy Tail (still publishing)
Full Metal Alchemist
Great Teacher Onizuka
One Piece (still publishing)

However as these are all above 100 chapters you might want to start with a few shorter Manga:
Death Note (even though you are watching it, this was both my first anime and my first manga, and I enjoyed the manga more.)
Doubt (also named rabbit doubt, as there are a few doubt's listed on MAL)
Highschool of the dead (this is still publishing, but if you wanted to read from where the anime finishes, the anime ends at chapter 17, so chapter 18 would be where you carry on.)
Mx0

These are for the most part action comedies (with the exception of maybe death note and doubt) which I personally think is a good place to at least get you interested in manga, if you are after any other genres or just more manga then come back and post again.

@ Rizzles: Heh, you just named quite a number of my first manga too in there (especially among the shorter ones) :) Along with those there were also Naruto, Elfen Lied, Rosario x Vampire, Sekirei, Mirai Nikki and Claymore. Have to agree that shounens are a good start, though of course it depends.

Book stores and online retailers for buying, not everything is published in English though, a lot of things get scanlated (fan translations) and posted on manga reading websites too such as mangahere.com and mangareader.net, they are good overall collections with a lot of stuff but usually don't credit the scanlating teams.

If you wanted to buy GTO that's getting difficult (I am still having trouble myself) because it has been out of print for a few years so it's getting more expensive, but the anime finishes at chapter 106 in volume 13. Personally I would suggest buying manga, but not everyone has a lot of money to do so xD

I am having a coupon to buy some English released Manga a bit cheaper. But I haven't got the slightest clue as to what is being already out or listed for preorder in English.
I have checked Vertical inc, dark horse and yenpress catalogues already, but nothing that sprung into my eye, which I hadn't already on my radar. Viz stupidly blocks no-us ips adresses and I totally had no patience to browse around with some proxy and all that slowness. (And I know no other publisher, in fact) =/
To add to that, I already know quite a number of stuff from the German/French/Japanese market (see list), further narrowing down the selection.

So primarily interested in what I have not yet on my list (except ptr section, which is a messy chaos)

Anybody, who can give some recommendations?

Just so you know you aren't being neglected shina, your list is pretty large as it is, would you want to buy anything that you have not read the manga for but have watched the anime? And also, is your voucher for any manga or are there any limits to it? The only things I would have recommended from a quick look so far has been stuff that has still only been published in Japanese which I guess isn't all too helpful XD

This is only manga topic. :P
So for manga You can try:
Berserk - one of the best dark fantasy action manga
BECK - great drama, anime only covers about 1/3 of the manga and stops when the shit gets tough for the main characters.
Genshiken - manga(also has anime) about otaku culture
Gunsmith Cats - a bit old action police manga, but still great
Love Hina - from the maker of Mahou Sensei Negima, his earlier work, a comedy romance
Nana to Kaoru - S&M comedy

I’d recommend these ones:
Shin Angyo Onshi - from the authors of Defense Devil which is not as good as Shin Angyo Onshi.
Bokurano – really good psychological drama and much better than its anime version, especially the ending.
Sora no Otoshimono – manga version is also better and more serious.
Hoshi no Samidare – funny at times, serious at times, nice plot.
Tokyo ESP – from the author of Ga-Rei and about the same vibe.
Vampire Juuji Kai – pretty good and unusual story.

My list would say otherwise, but I love yandere and kuudere girls. I'm looking for those manga that feature them. I want yandere girls especially, but not those Yankee or bully type girls that sometimes pop up.

I don't want to see School Days so I'm I'm just mentioning it in case some one knew of it's manga.
Don't forget kuudere girls though. Thank you in advance.

Maybe some of them are a little off of what you asked but they could still be ok based on your list.

Well... It would depend on the series. If I reated the Anime 5 or below, the interest isn't really huge. (Except perhaps the Anime was a 100% mess.)

Aside that, there aren't really limits for the voucher, the only limit is, that it shouldn't be released so long ago as to be out pf print and needs to be listed in the catalogue and be english-release. (Then no Book Price Binding.)

@Shina, from your ptr, Watamote just had it's first volume release a couple of weeks ago and (on amazon at least) the next couple of volumes are available for preorder, but that was the only one I could get from your ptr.

From other stuff though, you've read 6 volumes of Dogs: Bullets and Carnage, 8 volumes of that are currently available in English.

Azumanga Daioh can be bought as one (large) tome (about 700 pages) but is done by the same person as Yotsubato, which you didn't seem to like that much (Yotsubato also has 12 volumes available in english) and is his earlier work, mainly 4-komas, I'm not sure how you feel about them.

You seem to be reading the Haruhi novels, well the manga is really nothing special in terms of art, but it progresses the story still and has stopped because it has caught up to the novels, 16 volumes of that are available in english so far.

Genshiken is another one that you don't seem to have touched yet, available as 3 omnibuses until it hits the second season which is in individual volumes again.

Both the Higurashi and Umineko series as well, though both are adaptions of visual novels, and there is dispute between whether the animes or mangas are the better adaptions, you may not want to touch these just because of that.

You seem to be more into shoujo and I haven't really found anything myself that reflects that, here is a wiki article though which should have a decent collection of all the english published manga, it looks fairly up to date but it also includes out of print stuff as well. Hope this helps:

Looking at watamote.... How the heck did that wander on my ptr? oo" (As I said, my ptr/w sections are ludicously messy on my list. @_@") Is it any good? Cover looks quite... weird...

Dogs is not quite my taste, I'm still reading it, because a friend buys them and fangirls around it.
Azumanga I already have on dropped, just like Yotsuba. Not my humour at all.
genshiken I watched the Anime, didn't leave much of an impression, is the manga any better (topic wise and so)?

Haruhi, I think, unless a new Anime season comes, the LN will be enough (Manga art isn't too great, either...)

Higurashi ist, I think, too bloody to my taste, Umineko I'd like to start, where it continues from the Anime, but that's not listed for preorder, unfortunately. =/

Oh ok, Wikipedia is a source, too. Didn't even thought of it. XD

Watamote is a little hard to explain, it's about an unpopular girls struggles and internal monologues of her daily life in a nutshell, but the comedy is very....well I don't really know how to describe it, it's not slapstick humor, but it's not really that tame? It might be better if you just look at a chapter or two online before actually spending the money on it.
Genshiken I can't say, I have it but haven't read it yet (ask Konik? I think he is a genshiken fan who has seen it and reads it)
I think only the first 2 parts of Umineko are out at the moment in english :(

Yes, too bad umineko is yet to come.
Watamote - I'll try the anime a bit, I guess.
For the time being, I guess, I'll settle for Aku no Hana and perhaps finally completing Bokuano (I guess, I#ll replace the French ones with englisch ones for real...)

Buuut.
Now with priceminister.com's rakuten shopping, there is a voucher for French stuff. (Well limited for the first 500 people who go for it today evening, but perhaps this time, I have more chances) So now the same question for French stuff...
I already browsed through the 151 pages for Animes, but the manga sections seem to be a looooot huger. (And that only contains those, that are actually placed into the right category...) No way, I could actually browse through all of that, so I'd need some titles to search the other way round.

Now, I gues, not many know about what's release in French, so just any recommendation is fine and I'll check myself, if it exists. ^^"

A short while back I requested manga with yandere girls. I am back to refine that. Mirai Nikki and Uwa-koi are exactly what I seek.
Manga where there is little to no comedy attached to the girls yandere personality and tendencies. Aki-Sora, by the same author as Uwa-koi is another example.
lookin for the real deal ladies and gentlemen, the real McCoy

Had to edit this just say don't you dare say School Days. No. There is a difference between a desperate crazy-ass b**** and a yandere and that difference is a destable manwhore

@Elsa

Ao Haru Ride I haven't read that much of, but its shoujo art+dialogue and the chapters are long, there are over 30 chapters out so far and looked like there could be a teacher-student complication at least, it is a bit hard to explain without going into detail.

You have Hirunaka no Ryuusei on your reading list but I don't know how many chapters you have read, or if you have started reading it yet, there are about 50 chapters out last time I checked.

Hori-san to Miyamura-kun is done by the same story author as Horimiya and has been picked up by a scanlating team recently, while the manga is completed the scans only have 4 chapters out, but that might be something for you to keep an eye on.

I will add some more when I come back from college later, running low on time atm, those were just the first few I could think of :P

@ashbt if you are after anime then check this thread --> http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=662457&show=180

@Yurippe2636 - apart from the obvious hentai joke (huehue) I came up with these:
Claymore - Half Demon, half human characters (inner struggle type deal).

Sword of the Emperor - main character literally has something not so nice in him, he has the spirit of an evil martial artist and a buddhist monk attached to his own soul.

The Breaker - master/disciple type relationship between the two main characters, cliche with some unrealistic fighting but a very enjoyable read.

@Laniaka-Your first one scared me-can i get something along the lines of 'It has devastating power, but if used correctly, it can protect??-and is Soul Eater worth the read?

I'll keep smiling brightly at you.
Even when you hurt me.

I thought soul eater was nice, especially some of the earlier parts. The part where I was wasn't as good but still fun, the second half of the story I haven't read yet so I can't tell.
I also don't know in which way the 'not so nice something' in one of the main characters will develop. It didn't play that big a part in the first half of the story. But such things always tend to come later so I don't know.

Manga where the protagonist gets married I like those kinds of endings and the occurrence of that relationship. I have read only two manga where it happens to main characters.
, Tende Freeze and Sundome. I Wants more please.

@5thAngel Thanks for the Sundome spoiler (can't say I'm too surprised though haha :P)

Bakuman
Gan☆Kon
Hana to Akuma
Kitsune no Yomeiri
Otoyomegatari (literally means bride stories)
The Bride of the Water God

The only one I have completed is Bakuman (the anime, I have the manga but still haven't got round to reading it). I knew of a few of the others but they all came up when I searched for marriage tags on a manga database (strangely enough theres a lot of marriage in yaoi, did you know that? I sure didn't, do now). Hopefully you like the look of a few of these though.
