Amazing episode, the fights are awesome, love Eisen's trick to beating a strong opponent is just basically tanking hits and hitting them over and over again until he won. I know it make sense to give frieren vs aura a whole dedicated episode but damn are they just edging us for that episode. Also i like how the episode is called "Aura the guillotine" but she only appears for the first 7-ish minute of the episode lol

I still like Frieren as a whole but the latest arc is written very clumsily. Lügner and Linie are supposed to be competent spies but they talk about their true intentions way to openly. This could've easily been avoided if they were able to converse through some sort of telepathy which isn't too far fetched in my opinion. They also give up free kills against Fern and Stark respectively. Both of them are written terribly.

A bit on the expositionary side, but I think this is kinda unavoidable given that it is an adaptation of a shonen manga. The fights definitely didn't need THAT much explaining. That being said, its not as overbearing as, say, something like Demon Slayer or Jujutsu Kaisen, but its not quite on the level of something like Chainsaw Man when it comes to "show, don't tell." But, that's really the only complaint I have about the episode.

The animation definitely is still as incredible as always, in fact its gotten better than ever. Frieren never fails to amaze me with how fluid its animation is even outside of the fights; I wonder how freaking massive Madhouse's budget must be for this episode. Every episode seems better than the last. Overall a pretty great episode.

@QQbest Damn, I hope the animators got a decent pay and rest.
@Shafwan_Dito From the credits on each ep so far and the overall quality are good evidence that the production is healthy( one of the very few this year). There's nothing to about the salaries. The staff is very passionate about this production infact I'll link a post where this ep's director shows his love towards the series.
You can enjoy this without any worries about the production. This is without a doubt going to be this year's best produced show. Also the fact that half of the animation industry is working/ already appeared in these 9 eps speak volumes of what's to come.

What can't a good studio do with an anime, right? What a damn good episode, I just witnessed the best animation I've ever seen in my life, so smooth, beautiful, and simply impeccable. That's what a 10/10 anime is. It definitely made its way to the top of my list after this. Just awesome and epic (check out my analysis, I did a very good review of this anime too, thanks for the episode!)

The animation was out of this world!
Got the same feeling when I first watched Mushoka Tensei.
It was really great to see Fern show the results of her time spent traveling and fighting alongside Frieren.
Particularly loved Stark's performance, how he overcame his fears and take down Linie.
Excited to see how Frieren handles the overwhelming number of enemies in the next episode.
Madhouse at it again!

It kind of bothers me that frieren is talking to aura. I thought it didnt matter what you say to these demons. Frieren tells us, the viewer, everything they say is nonsense, so why would i believe anything aura says about herself? One of the few times id like it more if it was a cut away for exposition from the king.

@splake Honestly there could be a plethora of valid reasons for that. I don't think she was actually hoping to either convince Aura of anything nor have her reveal anything actually valuable. That does not mean she can't figure out some things there first. She was looking around, checking out the possessed soldiers, check out their abilities first-hand, try out how well "peacefully" dealing with the soldiers works. From what we've seen so far, it is fairly common for Frieren to assess the situation first, even if only for curiosity. Also I think she felt satisfied saying some things to Aura - after all she has a bit of a sadistic or "poetic justice" streak when it comes to demons - it was no coincidence she dealt with Draht the way she did (it could have been over much faster). She likes to toy with them, show off just a little bit.

The only annoying exposition for me was Stark saying his final lines. There was clearly no time for that and it feels like they "froze the world" just to make time for him to get that out there. Fern and Lügner's exchange before she freed herself made sense because Fern was stalling for time to wait for an opening, and Lügner thought he was playing with his food. After that though some of the things said were perhaps superfluous though.

What an episode!!!
With what we've had so far I wasn't expecting to see something so top notch till later on, but I'm not complaining.
Frieren didn't really seem intimidated at all by Aura, despite being surrounded.
Seeing Fern and Stark fighting those demons was something else too!
Fern seemed to keep up to the demon fairly effortlessly, seeing the showdown of magic made it look like it could sway at any moment.
Stark's struggle in fighting the demon I think emphasised his resilience and ability to stand back up no matter how many times he's knocked down.

Pretty sick fight between Fern and Lugner, but ya girl came out on top cause of she's just that good. Stark took some blows but also came out on top of his fight with Linie, which was cool since Linie was mimicking Eisen's moves.

Aura's Scales of Obedience seems kinda busted, but I'm sure it shouldn't pose too, too much trouble for Frieren. Hopefully.

I find this anime captivating in a way that's almost indescribable. It's attention to detail, complexity (at times), simplicity (at times), storytelling, characters (I'm not super attached to Stark just yet). I would describe this anime (thus far at least) with one word: Wisdom

I feel like Frieren is having an identity crisis for me. In one way the animation and composition in this episodes was great, but I thought Frieren was a meditation on time and immortality; Not a battle shounen against evil demons bent on destroy one small hamlet we have barely explored.
