my first anime of the season let's go, it starts well the episode was not bad, the difference between poor and rich, the contrast of neighborhoods is deja vu but I like it

the way the events unfolded is pretty classic, but I can't wait to see what happens next. I love revenge and want to know more about this universe and its characters.

there's a touch of Deadman Wonderland

What a brutal beginning, this anime is going to be pure cinema. And that song at the end was the best.

First episode leaked.

Didn't get your fill of shounen slop with Fire Force last season? Well don't worry, something even worse has you covered this season, from an assistant of Fire Force, no less! It's pretty obvious right off the bat as well lol. Like literally, Rudo is just an edgier version of Shinra. In fact, this whole thing feels like a more try-hard Fire Force overall. The art style and direction turned up by ten and thus make them absolutely vomit-worthy. I get why people like the manga to some extent. I mean, don’t get me wrong, the art there rocks…

…but here? God, everything about the visuals just makes me want to peel my eyes out. Anyway, the whole final scene with Rudo’s sensei or whatever getting killed, and him getting framed and sent to “the pit,” ends with him dropping such a “TufF and AurA liNE” as he falls... like come on. And sheeesh, that pit must really be garbage, because the CGI we saw at the end was 100% GARBAGE. SO yeah, it's a revenge story. Greaattttt. Don't have enough of those do we.

Seriously, even as someone who doesn't like the manga either, just read it over.. whatever this is. Bones really has lost any type of sauce they used to have.

And guess what the only positive thing about this episode was, yeah, not even something visual. Nope, it was the OP song playing at the end. Not just because it meant the episode was finally over, but because damn man, that song is a straight-up BANGER.
@IzanaSolos Alright, I get that not everything is for everyone, but calling it"shounen slop" right out of the gate just feels lazy. Yeah, it shares some similarites with Fire Force, which makes sense considering the creator worked under Ohkubo, but dismissing it entirely because of that is like writing off Black clover for having Naruto-like elements. Shared influences aren’t the same as copy-pasting.

As for Rudo being just “an edgier Shinra,” I don’t really see it. Rudo’s got more raw emotion, more instability, more rage behind his story.(arguably) His situation is rough from the start. He's not some polished hero with a flashy power-up. He’s a kid who got framed and thrown into a literal pit of garbage. That’s not edgy, it’s kinda sad. And his attitude fits the world perfectly. It's not about being "cool" nor having "aura", it's about survival and anger, which are core to the story.

Now, the visuals. Look, if you don’t like the art style, fair enough, but calling it “vomit-worthy”? Come on. The animation is intense, rough around the edges in places, but it feels like part of the world they’re building. Gritty, overwhelming, chaotic, because that’s what the world of Gachiakuta is supposed to be. The designs are bold, the direction is energetic, and even if the CGI at the end wasn’t perfect, it wasn’t nearly the disaster you're making it out to be.

And that scene at the end where Rudo gets framed and falls into the pit? You laughed at his final line, but to me, that moment actually hit. He just lost the one person who believed in him, got betrayed, and thrown away like trash. Him lashing out with a defiant line as he falls isn’t cringe, it’s emotional and shows the despair and sense of inability to do something that he was feeling in that moment.

And honestly, while it starts with a revenge setup, Gachiakuta doesn’t stay there. As the story progresses, it moves beyond personal payback and starts exploring ideas like justice, redemption, class divide, environmental decay, and how people rebuild identity when they’ve been thrown away. It’s a broader and more thoughtful narrative than what you saw.

Also, that OP at the end? Absolute banger. Agreed. But maybe it hit so hard because the rest of the episode built up the tension, the anger, and the energy leading into it. It wasn’t just a good song, it fit.

So yeah, you're free to dislike the episode, but writing it off as the worst thing ever just feels so forced. For a pilot, it did its job: it introduced the world, set up the stakes, gave us a protagonist with a reason to fight, and looked pretty damn cool doing it.

So, this world is divided between the rich, the poor and the abyss. I thought Rudo had some kind of power from avoiding those bullets. What’s the issue with his hands. I guess his father is not dead, or he could be the masked man.

I absolutely adore the fact that it tosses you right into the world and explains it just enough for you to understand what's going on, while not revealing too much. It does so in a well-balanced and eye-catching way. The art style as well as the animation is great! This first episode did it's job phenomenally, as I was and am so excited to keep watching this show! I also personally love a good dark aethetic, but that's just my opnion.

An anime for one of the most bland Shonen manga in recent history. Of course, it looks terrible as well.

expected it to be in a moderate category, but i think it was between moderate and worst category, the use of this 3d cgi to make the scene look more real was the worst decision from the crew, the monster in the last scene was the worst thing i saw today

Finally watched the 1st episode. I usually get disappointed only when shounen anime is a "wannebe-badass" that still is holding up actual "horror" and "gore" n "cruelty" from it in order to have it aired for a wider audience. And, this episode did not disappoint at all.

Someone above compared to the sh*tty Fireteam series. Well, this first episode luckily was nothing like that series. I'll now check the next one (where's the 3rd? shouldn't that be out as well by now?)

It's got such an interesting plot, and I instantly got into it. At first, it's similar to No. 6 and Astro Boy the movie, but it's more intense. I love the art style, it looks different from the mainstream stuff, and it gives me more vibes. It fits the anime well. The music is also a bagger.

the falling scene was insane and the best part

The beginning... sadge... NA Police in action. (punches the guy that isn't even resisting)

And everyone is braindead... there's no investigation or anything, they literally just pit anything on anyone... (mmm... pun...)

Even his "supposed romantic target" abandoned him without care.

HOLY SHIT...

I want the MC to somehow return by the end and destroy the entire city, especially the "cityfolks" with that massive segregation wall.

There's a ton of potential here for an allegory on material conditions, and I'm hoping Rudo goes from revenge-obsessed to someone who wants to abolish the wealth disparity that caused the slums to be what they are.
I do expect it to go there considering it's studo Bones, and reserve judgment for now.

But dang, there's so much exposition. I'd rather just let the world speak for itself, it's a 2 cour anime after al.

It started out like life, but over time, it became a constant battle. This is a common occurrence in espionage, but bringing it to a children's story isn't a bad thing. It should have ended, especially since they were born into this story. this is like the story in ./hack//liminality where yuki's communication in the world is shutdown.

I was worried the girl was going to die when I saw the officers. Turns out I was worried about the wrong person. They killed off his pops. I love a revenge story that psycho look he got in his eyes, chief's kiss. Interesting world so far, it's an elitist trash-based society with descendants of criminals.

We have alot of themes here, with upper class vs lower, a kid being judged for his father’s actions, and a set up/revenge story.

Not a bad introduction, I’ll keep going to see what the story unfolds
