Enjin destroying that trash beasts was cool. So, it was implied that there are no givers in the sphere. Damn, Rudo biting that guy’s fingers.

First of all op is fire, and the sound design is great - its so distinct to the series. The clash of 2d and 3d animation is throwing me off but the fight scenes were still fun to watch so whatever.

Also everyones complaining about how annoying rudo is but give him a break..
1. he literally just witnessed his adoptive father get murdered
2. was then convicted of killing him
3. and as consequence; exhiled into a trash filled wasteland
hes allowed to be angry and confused. ffs.

This world makes little to no sense, how they could survive in such world when even the food is really bad? how they even look mostly healthy in the first place living in such places? Unlike the world above, they don't receive sunlight for example.

Obnoxious angry/whiny kid MC ..

That's the most badass thing I've ever seen someone do with an umbrella. xD

Yeah, though I'm not a fan of screaming death metal, it absolutely fits the show like a glove. I do like how the visuals in the OP "rewind" to reveal what the characters look like. I don't think I've seen that in an anime OP before.

Can't blame the people of the Pit hating the Surface people for dumping their toxic trash into their land...like just imagine if this happened IRL. People get furious at trash going into the OCEAN when they don't even live there lol

I like how this world inverts the Japanese folklore "If you abandon an object, a spirit may possess it." These are youkai called "tsukumogami". Since we're on "umbrellas", here's an umbrella one xD

You'll see that thing a lot if you watch a lot of anime with youkai.

But in Gachiakuta, it's the opposite where if you take care of an object, it grows a soul.

@Comander-07

The appeal? Well, I can't speak for everyone here but I can usually get hooked by shows that throw their MC into a harsh, unforgiving world and saying, "Ok kiddo, TRY NOT TO DIE". xD It's fun to see them learn new things and adapt to that environment.

Gachiakuta feels like it's mixing Soul Eater with Made in Abyss and I'm ALL here for it.

Plus I like angry bois. :3

Seeing an angy boy trying to survive in a hellish junkyard filled with Trash Kaiju is......

certainly not something I have seen before. xD The barebones story setting kinda reminds me Deadman Wonderland...but I already like Rudo more than Ganta.

Someone mentioning "dark fantasy", OH YES. This definitely is. Rudo already has a dark side to him; he goes berserk when he gets angry enough and was ready to murder another human before his sensei figure stopped him. But the setting alone is dark enough imho.

@Chiibihime my issue with it is it pretends to be dark fantasy but it really is not, its shounen

Uh, it's both. Lol Owari no Seraph is also "dark fantasy" and shounen. Being one doesn't cancel out the other. Remember, "shounen" is a demographic, not a genre.

@Chiibihime talking about genres is tiring and pointless. Shounen is both a demographic and a genre. Specifically battle shounen, which both this trash and Owari no Seraph are. I can see Owari no Seraph beeing dark fantasy, but that also fizzled out. Both are too childish (and for shounen) to be actually "dark" fantasy.

I do not agree with you on OnS....ESPECIALLY if you read the manga. The best stuff didn't even get animated. They basically stopped after idk the sixth manga volume, maybe?

But no, shounen is not a genre I don't think either one is very "childish"...but I also don't know the prerequisites to be labeled "dark fantasy". I'd imagine Kuroshitsuji and The Case Study of Vanitas are both dark fantasy series too.

@Chiibihime To be fair Owari no Seraph just kinda drags on for ages now and with Yuus constant stupid positivity I just cant take the setting serious anymore.

When I hear dark fantasy I think Berserk, something gritty. What seperates shounen from that is the lack of consequences or overall lack of seriousness.
The humor here just does not stick with me at all, its super annoying even. Same thing happens for me with a bunch of other popular shounen though, Demon Slayer, Dr. Stone etc. All dropped because of comedy

@Comander-07 Bruh, Berserk is seinen. Seinen is for adults. A series doesn't have to be seinen to be "dark fantasy" but I can say with confidence,

"If you hate comedy and lack of seriousness and/or consequences, shounen battle anime REALLY isn't for you."

It really really isn't for you. Comedy is a staple of the younger demographics. Kids like funny scenes so authors write funny scenes for them. Likewise, you will not find much shoujo that doesn't have comedy. I can basically think of ONE author. Lol

You're better off sticking to seinen and psychological shounen stuff like Death Note. But don't watch Platinum End by the same authors because it's terrible. Lol

(Well, that's my favorite thing about Yuu-chan. Lol I remember how negative he was at the start of the series. He's like done a 180 personality change.)

@Chiibihime bruh you cant say "shounen is not a genre" and then use seinen as a genre. You know whats also technically shounen? Attack on Titan. But that is also what I mean when I say its not dark fantasy but (battle) shounen, yeah its probably both but more shounen than dark.

Then you are confidently wrong. I enjoy some, I dislike others. It really comes down to the type of comedy. Generally I dislike slapstick type comedy and when its used to ruin serious scenes. My Hero Academia works for me, Dragonball was great at it too. I guess Chainsawman and Dandadan count as well.

Most isekais are pretty similar to battle shounen as well and they can be fun too.

Platinum end.. that does ring a bell, I will have to look that up.

Fair, but Yuus happy go lucky attitude (and knowing it will all work out in the end because its shounen..) just kinda doesnt sit right with me given how desperate everyone else is. Though admittedly the entire manga just drags on and on and on..

I didn't use seinen as a genre. I said "you probably want to stick to that demographic".

OH, I get it now.

What you're describing would be called "Mood Whiplash" which is a YMMV trope when a series flops back and forth between "serious" and "goofy".

Modern shows doing this haven't bothered me but Akame Ga Kill doing it DEFINITELY DID.

To be fair, I don't think anything about AgK could have been saved lmao

Interesting episode with Rudo revealing his power in the Pit which has people residing and working in it. There also seems to be different factions such as the one that Enjin is trying to convince Rudo to join which is called the Cleaners. While Rudo wants revenge for being wrongly convicted of killing his adoptive father I think it would be wise of him to join that faction to at least have some protection and probably food, water, and shelter. On that note I'm curious to see how they all live down there and how they get their water.

The bit about the flesh being torn from his fingers without touching the bones was a bit far-fetched... but he ended up eating it. It was very forced.

And that "when you stay silent, they take advantage" sounded very personal and out of place. Was the author just venting? 😅

Crazy to see Goro Majima in this episode. Learning a lot more about the world. Intrigued to see what happens with the Cleaners, who else is in the group, and how being a Giver functions. I understand that Rudo's gloves have some kind of soul in them now, but I'd be intrigued to see more of those mechanics.

A dark series like this, paired with Paledusk's heavy metal OP, it's decent at best.

The Pit having trashpile monsters that Kudo would not expect to find, he's basically escaping blind until he can find a safe spot in the godforsaken trash heap land. Until then, he has to deal with the titan monsters with all his might. Adding to that, from the unbeknownst help of someone offering Rudo a mask to breathe in the Pit, and the explanation of the trash beasts absorbing everything in its path, it's his umbrella that's the capable weapon to stop the regenerating trash monsters.

The big help of Cleaner Enjin, and the pair of gloves that Regto entrusted to Rudo, the latter is still uncontrollable so chaining him up is the only possible way to shut in up on the Ground. Alas, there're other people that are living on the Ground also, though Sphereites like Rudo fetch a high price, especially when they're alive. And for somewhat a befitting character like Rudo who expunges his hidden power being subjected to the rules of the world, there exists people like him - Givers, who give items their life for servitude.

Dustcell's ED feels just mediocre to decent, however.

For once in Rudo's life, Enjin's need for him feels warranted, though there's still much to learn about his newfound power.

Well. I wasn't expecting cannibalism. Especially not in a second episode. Harsh.
There are a lot of surreal things here. I need explanations soon.
I like that everything he touches is conveniently transformed. Perhaps too convenient? But I like it.
