Is my taste in shounen really that niche or why dont I see the appeal in this, it has good rtings..

The appeal? Well, I can't speak for everyone here but I can usually get hooked by shows that throw their MC into a harsh, unforgiving world and saying, "Ok kiddo, TRY NOT TO DIE". xD It's fun to see them learn new things and adapt to that environment.

Gachiakuta feels like it's mixing Soul Eater with Made in Abyss and I'm ALL here for it.

Plus I like angry bois. :3

Seeing an angy boy trying to survive in a hellish junkyard filled with Trash Kaiju is......

certainly not something I have seen before. xD The barebones story setting kinda reminds me Deadman Wonderland...but I already like Rudo more than Ganta.

Someone mentioning "dark fantasy", OH YES. This definitely is. Rudo already has a dark side to him; he goes berserk when he gets angry enough and was ready to murder another human before his sensei figure stopped him. But the setting alone is dark enough imho.

Uh, it's both. Lol Owari no Seraph is also "dark fantasy" and shounen. Being one doesn't cancel out the other. Remember, "shounen" is a demographic, not a genre.

@Chiibihime talking about genres is tiring and pointless. Shounen is both a demographic and a genre. Specifically battle shounen, which both this trash and Owari no Seraph are. I can see Owari no Seraph beeing dark fantasy, but that also fizzled out. Both are too childish (and for shounen) to be actually "dark" fantasy.

I do not agree with you on OnS....ESPECIALLY if you read the manga. The best stuff didn't even get animated. They basically stopped after idk the sixth manga volume, maybe?

But no, shounen is not a genre I don't think either one is very "childish"...but I also don't know the prerequisites to be labeled "dark fantasy". I'd imagine Kuroshitsuji and The Case Study of Vanitas are both dark fantasy series too.

@Comander-07 Bruh, Berserk is seinen. Seinen is for adults. A series doesn't have to be seinen to be "dark fantasy" but I can say with confidence,

"If you hate comedy and lack of seriousness and/or consequences, shounen battle anime REALLY isn't for you."

It really really isn't for you. Comedy is a staple of the younger demographics. Kids like funny scenes so authors write funny scenes for them. Likewise, you will not find much shoujo that doesn't have comedy. I can basically think of ONE author. Lol

You're better off sticking to seinen and psychological shounen stuff like Death Note. But don't watch Platinum End by the same authors because it's terrible. Lol


(Well, that's my favorite thing about Yuu-chan. Lol I remember how negative he was at the start of the series. He's like done a 180 personality change.)

@Chiibihime bruh you cant say "shounen is not a genre" and then use seinen as a genre. You know whats also technically shounen? Attack on Titan. But that is also what I mean when I say its not dark fantasy but (battle) shounen, yeah its probably both but more shounen than dark.

Then you are confidently wrong. I enjoy some, I dislike others. It really comes down to the type of comedy. Generally I dislike slapstick type comedy and when its used to ruin serious scenes. My Hero Academia works for me, Dragonball was great at it too. I guess Chainsawman and Dandadan count as well.

Most isekais are pretty similar to battle shounen as well and they can be fun too.

Fair, but Yuus happy go lucky attitude (and knowing it will all work out in the end because its shounen..) just kinda doesnt sit right with me given how desperate everyone else is. Though admittedly the entire manga just drags on and on and on..
