We are coming to the end of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex tonight, so that means we need a new theme!

After abusing my power and influence comparing our last few anime and thinking we need something a little different, I have decided our next theme shall be..... Romance

We haven't actually focused on this genre yet, and the fact this is my favourite type of anime absolutely had no effect on this selection progress at all....

Closing Date for suggestions: Saturday 7th April
Poll will be up from: Saturday 7th to Sunday 8th of April
Results & Group watch to begin: 08/04 @ 19:30

I'm looking forward to see what you guys come up with :)

I don’t watch that much romance, anime or otherwise, but my suggestions are:

- Your Name (I’ve been wanting to watch this ever since it came out)

- Orange (I’ve sort of stopped watching it and need an excuse to start up again)

- Kokoro Connect (again, i need an excus to get round to this)

So the winner of our Romance theme was My Little Monster. Thanks to everyone who voted :)

I have seen this series before but I have been meaning to rewatch it for a while, so I was pleased to give this show another go.

I agree there, the first episode in particular was so fast-paced and jam packed full of information to take in that I didn't have a chance to get to know the main characters. I will say though that it did make me laugh a good couple of times, and there were a few very sweet moments. I'm looking forward to watching more on Tuesday. :)

We have just passed the half-way point of My Little Monster tonight, so I think its time to start thinking of new our next theme.

So in an effort to continue to try and go for something different for every GW, I have decided our next theme shall be..... Adventure

Like with our most recent themes, I am thinking we stick with the less than 13 episode rule.

The last time we did this theme Spice And Wolf won, so I won't be accepting any votes for that anime as that viewing was still relatively recent. I may add season 2 as a bonus vote in time, but I think I would prefer an all new anime to watch.

My suggestions:

Noragami, an anime that MAL’s been suggesting to me for ages now
Alice to Zouroku, which I somehow completely missed during 2017
Dog Days - I don’t need to justify this one ;)

Also, not sure if this is allowed, but I’m also going to chuck Cybersix in there too. It’s on MAL, so I guess it’s *technically* an anime…

Here are my suggestions. I've went above and beyond with commenting with the PV's in spoilers for people as I've just picked a few with the adventure tag that are on my PTW.

Jorgunmand
Why?
- Made by White Fox & they make good anime
- Reminds me of Black Lagoon(one of my favourites)
- Cause guns
- Has nudity in, this probably counts against it

Maoyuu Maou Yuusha
Why?
- Looks well animated
- I've heard good things about the soundtrack
- Romance tag wink wink nudge nudge
- I've seen a gif that makes me think it should have the ecchi tag, probably counting against it

Madan no Ou Vanadis
Why?
- It's on my PTW
- The OP comes on youtube sometimes and I really like it
- Harem Ecchi Romance tag wink wink nudge nudge
- Watching the PV it seems really fan servicey, so I'm entirely ok with this suggestion being ignored.

The World is Still Beautiful
Why?
- Shoujo adventure anime with a female lead, sounds interesting right?
- The recommendations also have Akatsuki no yona & Akagami no Shiriyuki-hime which I enjoyed both
- The Manga is still publishing and has an 8.10 score, so if it's good you could pick the manga up :)
- Romance tag again, it seems fairly common in adventure anime it seems. I am not OK with this suggestion being ignored

Here are mine:

Katanagatari. Haven't heard many people suggest it but it's got to be top of the mal scoreboards for a reason.

Kaiba. Same with this one, but it sounds really quirky and interesting.

Noragami. Because it's absolutely awesome and I need to re-watch it

Zero no Tsukaima. Why not? It's popular

And finally: The World is Still Beautiful. One of my favourite adventure romances (and just romances in general). Also because a certain someone seems to very much want to watch this...๐Ÿ˜Š

Also if Grimgar wins I absolutely refuse to watch it

NEW POLL TIME. I like the variety here, It seems the adventure genre can be mixed with many combinations of different other genres and sub-genres, so its going to be a tough choice :o

So Soredemo Sekai wa Utsukushil won the vote! I'll be the first to admit it's not an anime that springs to mind when I think of "adventure", buuuut it's one of my favourites so I may be slightly happy about it having won anyway. I still really want to see Kino no Tabi (2003) though.

We are a good way through The World is still Beautiful now, so it's that usual time to start thinking of our next theme!

So with our current "Adventure" theme not being all that..... adventure-y..... I think it will be good fun to watch something a little darker. So we have decided our next theme shall be.....Psychological

The usual rules applies for suggestions, and as per usual I think any series up to 13 episodes in length is eligible. (Films/OVA/ONA's are all ok too aslong as they are suitable).

Hmm...I wonder what people are going to suggest for this one?

Aku no Hana, the one in first place

Ping Pong - the possible rival

Death Parade - simply because it's one of my favourites

Kakegurui - a random contender

That should be more than enough for this one (I did refrain from suggesting Erased or Zankyou no Terror but would be happy to see either). ๐Ÿ˜Š

Gunslinger Girl- I need some badass women in my anime

Kakegurui- I've been on the fence on whether to watch this on Netflix since it came out

xxxHOLiC Kei - it's rated very highly and looks interesting, I guess ¯_(ใƒ„)_/¯

+1 for Death Parade - Love this one a lot, finidng out how and why each of the characters died through playing pub games in purgatory. Not normally fond of episodic shows, but each episode had me hooked.

Zankyou no Terror - One I've been meaning to get around to for a long time, meant to be really good.

+1 for Kakegurui - Twisted gambling games, this one caught my eye when it was airing, never got around to it.

Paranoia Agent - Again, If you've heard the Opening song, you'll know why I am interested in seeing this one.

Perfect Insider - Another one thats been sitting on my ptw but i've never gotten around to. It sounds interesting.

Yuuki Yuna is a Hero - Seems like another one that subverts the cliches and tropes into something very different. And I love shows that do that.

So the poll ended up tied! Boogiepop and Gunslinger were neck and neck, so we took it to a random generator online and Gunslinger Girl won in the end.

From the opening two episodes I actually enjoy it so far, the synopsis didn't interest me all that much and I never would have watched it on my own, but I am already invested and I want to see more :)

A note about Boogiepop Phantom. It basically assumes that you've viewed the live action movie and/or read a few of the light novels before seeing the anime, which means that going into it the viewer is lacking some context and background information.

I'll link a video in the spoiler that helps explain all of this better than I can.

Don’t know why I struggled to come up with suggestions for this (maybe because of the episode limit?), but I’ve managed three:

Plastic Memories, which I’ve seen before but never managed to get round to
Blue Drop: Tenshitachi no Gikyoku, found hiding in my PTW
AKB0048 - the second anime I ever watched, haven’t gone back to it for a while

Argh, bit of a tough one. Most of my favourite sci-fi are 24+ episodes long. I have found a good selection all the same though, a few movies too.

Charlotte - Doesnt have the Sci Fi tag, but I still consider it one. Really good show, though a lot of people do dislike it for its rather rushed ending. I personally loved it regardless.

Eve no Jikan - Really interesting Film about robots and AI.

FLCL - Classic, weird and a bloody amazing soundtrack.

The Girl who Leapt Through Time - A movie from one of my favourite anime directors, and a classic time travel movie.

Higashi no Eden - because one day it will win the poll....

Plastic Memories - Feels and Robots, bring tissues.

Made in Abyss - personally I'd class it more as a fantasy, but one of the characters is a robot and it has the sci-fi tag so yay! One of my favourites, and one of the few i've given a 10 rating for.

Orange - One i have wanted to see for quite some time now. A good old time travel drama / romance.

Serial Experiments Lain - I think everyones probably heard of this one.

Space Dandy - That Hair-do

In no particular order (and this is only a few of them):

1. Higashi no Eden

2. Space Dandy - Yep, it's the hair-do @Renn

3. Inuyashiki Last Hero- one of the most awesome anime out there and a personal favourite

4. Girls' last tour - it did win the awards after all, it's gotta be good

5. Kaiba - unconventional and aweso...nah, just plain unconventional

6. Black Bullet - superpowered lolis fight giant monsters

7. BTOOOM! - maybe more of a 'trapped in a game' than an actual sci-fi though

8. So Ra No Wo To

9. Serial Experiments Lain - as previously mentioned

10. Now and Then, Here and There - although bear in mind, this is supposed to be one of the most depressing anime ever created

On reflection, most of these could actually have fitted into the psychological genre very well too.

As per usual, I would prefer we stuck with anime that are less than 13 episodes in length.

I won't lie, this genre does not interest me in the slightest, but the whole point of creating this group watch was to try and get myself and others to watch anime we normally wouldn't, so I am honestly curious. If I try and get out of this come Sunday, please force me back against my will.

Love Hina is the most horrific anime I can think of

Gakkou Gurashi - Cute girls doing cute things with Zombies. Surprisingly a really good series that i loved a lot!

Dusk Maiden - Romance between a ghost and a human. Throw in a shadowy evil ghost and a mystery and it makes for one great series and one of my favourites.

Sankarea - Zombie girl romance, reminded me a lot of Dusk Maiden, with an added shaun of the dead reference.

Tsukihime - Its me, of course I have to recommend this. Its nowhere near as good as the VN it was based on, to the point the fanbase actively deny its existence. The OST was great though and its worth it for Arc alone.

Shikabane Hime - Its the second season I liked of this, the first was mostly just episodic, but it was pretty cool still.

Empire of Corpses - A movie. No idea why it doesnt have the horror tag, its very reminiscent of the old gothic horror style. Frankensteins research is used to reaminate corpses to use as cheap labour.

Quite a fun genre you picked this time, let's see...

Mononoke - heard that this one's amazing, although the art style can be off-putting for some.

Ajin - action, thriller, horror, I'm in!

Sankarea - Zombie girlfriend? Sounds interesting.

Shinrei Tantei Yakumo - a psychic detective solving crimes

Gantz - I'll understand if this one doesn't get chosen, it's supposed to be one of the bloodiest, most gruesome and violent anime ever. I haven't watched it yet and I'm not even sure I would unless it was in a group. It would be interesting to see everyone's reactions though XD

Hellsing Ultimate - utterly fantastic. Good story, awesome characters. And the MC's an anti-hero :)

And sorry @Renn, but Love Hina's longer than 13 episodes...pity

Touken Ranbu - the better Senjuushi, apparently

Surprisingly, there turned out to be a lot of historical anime I really like the sound of.

Katanagatari - different and apparently a really well fleshed out, thrilling and interesting anime. About swords and wielding them. I've suggested this before but who knows? It could eventually win.

Shigurui - famed as one of the goriest anime out there? It made me kinda curious (somehow I don't think it's exactly your cup of tea though @Wood94) ;)

Aoi Bungaku Series - all I know is that it's based on Osamu Dazai's famous stories. Might well be very dark and depressing.

91 Days - Still curious about the lasagne, it must be admitted :D

And lastly, a personal favourite - Golden Kamuy finished recently and is all about the native Japanese, the Ainu. That and searching for gold. It's a seriously awesome show with a great blend of action and humour, and the characters are pretty unique.

Sorry I can't link to them, don't have many resources where I am now :)

Absolutely agree, though I feel that it being one of @Wood94's most hated least loved anime, it will probably never make it through to polling.

Whilst I am here I checked my MALgraph and apparently I have +600 hours of drama watched apparently, it must be one of those cover all genres like comedy or action. A few i'd recommend are Kakegurui or Kuzu no Honkai, completely opposite ends of the spectrum.

@Green @agilityredfox I hate you both. adds to preliminary poll

@XavierMarciano I totally understand that by sticking to shorter series that it does cut out so many potential anime for us to watch, but I really do think that by having this limit we are able to keep the watches seem fresh and constantly moving forward. (plus people may not want to watch a certain series, or may not be liking the winning anime all that much.)

We have attempted longer running shows in the past, and we did find it going a bit stale over time. I do think anything up to about 24 episodes is totally doable though, and if people want to watch something longer I don't mind adding it at all, it's just 13 ep series seems to be the sweet spot imo.

The worst thing is I have rewatched it once before because my "friends" (stares at @Renn and @agilityredfox) wondered why I hated it so much. The only other anime I have seen more than twice are some my absolute favourites!

BUT, I would feel bad if I were to use my own personal preferences to dictate what goes in the poll haha.
