KAO-Chan!!!!!!!!! Osananajimi has a chance now. I'll be rooting for Tsubaki now that Kao-chan is gone. That was heart breaking for me to watch. Damn, I at least want to hear Kousei confess to Kaori but not gonna happen now.
Easily anime of the year for me. The tears, the emotions, the power of the performance.
And that letter, so heartbreaking. She loved him all along. Practically was her driving force in life besides being remembered. Kousei has suffered so much, I really feel sorry for that kid. Tsubaki is there to cheer him up, but really it makes the whole thing worse.
Yet despite her death, spring still has to come. The spring in which she is not there will always come because time doesn't stop. It's a motif that this anime has been playing on for it's entire run. Time is always flowing whether we want it to or not.
Seriously, end of animes are the best.
But I can't believe they pass the time when she dies, it would have been a great scene of drama...
As you would expect from a shonen, but it was very good, 8/10.
Borgov said: This show is overrated. It tried doing too much and didn't have a clear identity. Was it trying to be a romance or was it more about the music? First half was great because it solely focused on the feeling of playing music and the enjoyment it brought. Then it became a melodramatic love triangle romance of middle schoolers who acted like adults. It was weird and off putting.
The ending was predictable and decent at best. This show is a 7/10 and I hope people change their scores because currently its score is overinflated.
From the beginning it was obvious this was going to happen. Still, couldn't avoid some tears.
Really liked the visuals and the ost, but some other parts were terrible. Like how they were abusing Arima (Tsubaki kicking him while he was sad. Way to ruin the mood), not deciding if his mother was a good person or just abusing him, and that stupid love triangle. And, many may hate this, but I really didn't like Miyazono's personality, or Tsubaki's. The male friend was also forgettable.
The piano play Kousei was really harth warming, beautiful, and spectacular. You can really feel, see, hear how he feels for Kaori.
He's really dedicating it to the peole who supported him all the way where he stands/at now.
They are his "enemy/competitor" which is Aiza, Takeshi and Igawa, Emi they are also at the same time Kousei's fan.
With Miss Hiroko and Koharu Seto, Watari, Tsubaki who was there from the start.
Also with Nagi who. And most of all his mother who first teach him the piano.
The flashbacks of moments of Kousei and Kaori was really good. They are really in love with each other.
I also hope that piano play filled with love of Kousei for Kaori was able to reach her.
The "Snow Piano Play" was so good! I can really feel how much Kousei's feelings when he plays it.
But at the same time it's the worst part since it's a sign that's something really bad was coming.
Since by that time Kousei was somewhat devoured by that imaginary world he turned sad because the worst thing happened.
The Piano play by Kousei and violin accompaniment of Kaori was really the best! (Thank you for doing this A-1 Pictures! It's really great!)
But It's also sign that something bad happened to Kaori. The moment Kaori vanishes it's the most painful feeling for Kousei.
It's really painful for Kousei to see you go! (Also for me too!!!)
Please Kaori don't go! Don't just vanish like that! It's really painful to you go!!!
That letter with a somewhat insulting right at the beginning and throughout. Well That's Kaori anyway.
So Kaori was actually one of the audience (And beside Igawa, Emi? What?!) when he first played (?) the piano in the contest.
And when she saw, heard and felt Kousei's piano play she decided to become a violinist so that she will be accompanied by Kousei, that's sweet!
Damn Kousei, He's everyone's piano/pianist idol. he don't even know he's that popular because he just plays for his mother to get better.
Then Kaori's funeral was been sighted, so the worst case was been confirmed Kaori was dead after or during the surgery.
The moment she really wanted came which is to meet Kousei but she can't approach him because she don't know what to do.
She feels it wasn't good to just appear and may cause their friendship/relation to break.
So Kaori was wearing glasses, uses/wears ponytails on her long hair and had a large appetite.
But she changed/improve (makeover, wore contact lenses) herself so that she will look presentable to Kousei.
And not only that she stopped suppressing her appetite (just to looked thin) to eat anything she wants. (So she won't ever regret it when her time comes.)
Also she played the violin or her music the way she wants so that she will not be she won't regret it and following/please others.
She also thought that to Kousei to help him breakfree of his mother and his past to become a better pianist.
So she did all that because she knows her time was running out, that is why she planned to meet Kousei who had quit from piano playing.
Kaori planned everything that happened to Kousei all along to bring him back on his piano playing to hear, see and feel Kousei's music again.
So the "Lie in April" was that Kaori was, she doesn't liked Watari and it's actually Kousei.
She's really waiting for that moment to finally meet Kousei!
And Is that why she's crying because they finally met? Or is it because her time was running out?
And too bad for Kousei he didn't got the opportunity to kiss or just even hug Kaori to express his feeling for her.
Well at least Kaori somewhat hugged him from behind when they are riding with the bicycle together at night.
And damn Watari, he got the chance to kiss Kaori, Instead of Kousei! And it's not really necessary to apologize on him because it's nothing for him.
Because he's just such a playboy who got many girls (friends) It won't be a big deal. That picture though!
Kaori knows Tsubaki had feelings for Kousei. Is that why she didn't showed that she had feelings for Kousei?
Also somewhat she don't need to apologize to Tsubaki because I think she will understand Kaori's situation the most.
And for some reason I didn't like Tsubaki's part it interrupted the narration of the letter of Kaori. Well It's just fine anyway.
Indeed Kaori and Kousei's moments was really hearth warming even if it's just for short while.
She wrote how she really loves/likes him, Kousei's response to the letter was the best part.
And indeed Kaori reached Kousei's heart. Same for Kousei, they are actually the same struggling to reach each other's heart.
But I wish this didn't end up like that. I wished they exchanged those sweet words when Kaori's still alive (in person).
And also Kaori shouldn't apologize to everyone even to Kousei she did that just to use her left time to the fullest.
They will understand it either way because it's understandable if someone's in the same situation.
But nonetheless I'm sure she would be forgiven. Since they can understand it.
And of course Kousei you should be the one who would be thankful because she used all of her remaining time time to support you.
To bring back the Piano Prodigy Kousei. Well yeah Kaori should thanked Kousei too for every moment they spent together.
That "Treasure" though. That picture was really cute. Even if it's just a "stolen shot" when Kousei was walking by when Kaori was being pictured.
It's really touching she really treasured that picture when they are kids. For sure Kousei will treasure it too.
If not. How dare he doesn't treasure a girl's most important thing included with her love! Don't dare to dispose it!!! But since it's Kousei he will.
And indeed Tsubaki knows everything about Kousei because was always at Kousei's side supporting him.
Also since Kaori was gone she should take chance to show her feeling for Kousei after a month recovering from Kaori's death.
Lastly, Damn if only I knew the manga author would do this I should prepared myself better for the worst.
Well his work on this Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso was really good. But I wished he ended it with a happy ending (or a better one) with Kaori being alive.
Damn the feels I had when I'm watching this was so depressing I can't explain why I had a bit teary, I really can't understand.
I just hope that Kosei had the courage to tell Kaori he loves her. Also the same with Kaori but at least she express it how she loves Arima Kousei.
But It's just, They didn't had much good times with each other with knowing that they liked/loved each other.
As I expected the Anime Version would be 2 times more painful to watch. I'm so crushed...
I'll rate this Anime Adaptation a 9 score (or maybe I'll give it a 10?). Also I wonder what would be the story of the OVA?
I wish it will fill up the manga had left because for me it's still unfinished. I want more!

Haters always gonna hate.
But they are all dumb asses who always love to bother unnecessarily.
"Spread the Hate, Spread the Idiocy."
Kousei's performance was beautiful esp after he realized that her coming to play with him means she's dead ;_;
DAMN the shifts in tone he made throughout the performance were insanely GOAT!!
I wanted the friggin audience reactions to his epic performance though D:
So Kousei also inspired Kaori too :O She friggin decided to become a violinist just to play with him?! DAMN O_o!
The letter reading part was so damn FEELZ inducing T^T Kaori's smile is just too heavenly :*)
Well it was a bit disappointing that it ended that way, I was hoping for a more straight forward transition into what his life and future choices were since they killed off ole Blondie.
6/10
Beautiful artwork and great music (8 year pianist) so I m a bit biased 9/10
Bland story and horrible ending 4/10
"Romance can strengthen people, but it can also make them useless."
Well, a decent ending. Tsubaki was the better girl of course but I knew it's not gonna happen. It least it wasn't some bullshit romance based on a few hours spent together like it happens in some anime.
The performance in the first half of the episode was excellent.
I liked the first half of this anime much more. It didn't have any plot, just random shit with music performances. Then the whole drama began. It was obvious Kaori's gonna die and yet they prolonged it till the last episode. Ehh. The comedic moments were very poor and the cast overall average at best.
Visuals were great, sasuga A1. And the OST, damn that OST. Downloaded it already.
5/10, gotta watch Nodame soon
Haha, if she died its predictable. If she lives it's predictable. Characters are horrible and poorly written. Wasted potential. Does anybody watch anime for the sake of enjoyment anymore instead of scrounging for things to nitpick? This show used every bit of potential it had, don't kid yourself. Just because the author didn't tell the story you wanted to hear doesn't make the story any worse. The characters reminded me exactly Toradora, a show praised for its lovable characters. Kousei and Kaori had great chemistry as well as the three supporting characters.
People complain about Wataris lack of a complex story, but it doesn't need it. Watari was there as a tool for Kaori to get to Kousei, if you grow to attached to Watari when Kaori admits that she lied, you side with Watari which is a bad idea. The story was about Kousei, and his mental growth. He learned that even when you lose someone dear, there will be others who value you and your well being. I think the premise and execution was fantastic. If I had a complaint, it would be the artsy dialogues, those got a litter awkward at times but never were overdone. The art is beautiful, the animation is smooth and gorgeous, the soundtrack is the most underrated in years. For anyone who likes music and romance, watch this. But watch this with an open mind. Don't go into it with a shovel ready to dig into it as soon as you find a soft spot. Anime isn't about ratings or being right, its about looking for beauty in unexpected places. For me, I definitely found a ton of it here. 10/10
The only thing I didn't like is that the anime made the piano scene a little bit too dramatic. In the manga, Kaori just faded away into cherry blossoms. It was simple and beautiful but the anime made this big light shoot out of her chest which was off putting for me. I wish they just kept that scene simple, it would have been so much better that way in my opinion.
I did cry in the second half though, Kaori's letter was really nice and I liked how Kousei grow. Also, I didn't really like Kousei and Tsubaki very much before but after that scene in the end I hope they get together and continue to support each other!
Not exactly a really tear inducing scene, more like being in awe and looking at it with wavering eyes, this was a really beautiful ending...
Kaori appearing in Kousei's performance. The struggles in Kousei, from realization to be unable to look at her and to be finally enjoy their last performance together.
It almost felt surreal in the sense that Kaori died :/
The letter was quite the nice one. Being so cheerful and straightforward in the last words she says with Kousei. Learning how she fell in love with Kousei at that age and seeing her change. The "Now or Never" theme and the "Carpe diem" theme, it really is quite sad but the feeling surrounding the letter just gives off this tendency to smile while being sad.
Being able to convey her feelings... a really great and bittersweet ending. Seeing Kousei like this, being much more of an adult than before.
9/10, a truly splendid anime that I enjoyed. I cried less than expected...
8/10 for me too. Well funny enough my favorite arc was with Nagi :V
It had good animation and music overall and the drama was kinda intense. I didn't like how Kouseis rivals didn't got as much screen time but oh well. Overall it was decent. I would enjoy a happy ending more but I guess drama is Shigatsu strong point so it makes sense they went this way. I hope the OVA show us some happy times latter on and what they did with their lives.
Wow! They made me dislike Kaori in final episode.
This is really something... -.-
I have lot of mixed feelings...
I thought this gonna be something like "Chihayafuru", but with music instead of karuta.
I really like animation in this anime.
I really like these special effects playing under water and other moments simillar to these.
I really liked that colorfull style, but...
Damn it... that drama, that ongoing drama...
after a while I really had enough.
Well... I thought this will be more "happy" series.
7/10 from me
I wanted give 8, but killing cat just to bring more drama and show reference to Kaori.
Not cool, not accepted!
Kaori's Shigatsu no Uso isn't cool... and I don't liked it.
Hope Tsubaki still have a chance, because I really prefer her over Kaori.
What a beautiful & touching ending... It was really hard to watch, Kaori's letter almost killed me. So strong, so sad, yet Kousei manages to look forward...
What other note could i give besides 10? It isn't about an anime's perfection, but the feelings transmitted.
IS NO ONE PISSED OUT ABOUT THAT MIRACLE BULLSHIT IM GONNA FREAKING KILL SOMEONE SCREW IT LIKE SERIOUSLY IS NO ONE WONDERING ABOUT IT
DONT SAY ITS THE OVA FOR GODSAKES THE TITLE IS 'MEMORIES' ITS DEFINATELY GONNA BE A FLSAHBACK OF KAORI WHEN SHE WENT TO SEE HIM PLAY ASS KIDS THIS IS DRIVING ME INSANE I NEED A CAT RIGHT THE FUCK NOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW
Damn that felt better
And I really hoped that they didn't let Kaori die...man...I'm really sad right now. They didn't even show her dying.
The scene where Kousei was playing with Kaori was amazing. As if he would know that Kaori is going to die.
But I expected the last episode to be sadder and darker. The letter of Kaori was beautiful, but I expected more of the last episode. I'm a bit disappointed. I'd say 7-8 for the last episode.
Kaioshin_Sama said: I can't help but feel this show gets its praise more for the kind of show it is (hardcore KEY style melodrama) and the look of it more than anything to do with execution. At the end of the day we get our "profound" meaning and sob story ending as could have been predicted episodes ago where the story probably could have ended, but my lack of empathy for or lasting interest in the cast leaves it feeling oh so hollow and I felt this way with the manga too. They just aren't particularly likeable for the most part and I can't help but feel that it shifted gears from a decent personal story about a troubled musician to romantic melodrama to the detriment of its potential. In any case as they say its all over but the crying for those that get really emotional over this sort of stuff.
My thoughts exactly. The show had so much potential, I wish the author didn't chose the melodrama route. I wish it was more focused on the music & other characters such as Takeshi or Emi. It went downhill when it started being about foreshadowing Kaori' death. I don't get any 'feels' from this, it's too forced. It's like fate is against Kousei 24/7. I found the cat's death cringe-worthy I initially thought I'd give this a 9 or even 10 but it turned out to be disappointing. At least the art & OST were good.
Amazing, very good ending. I really loved it even though it was soo sad. I'm glad they didn't go for a 'and she survived and they live happily ever after!', real life doesn't always work out like that. Even though Kosei was upset, he stayed positive and dealt with it.
10/10, I need to go watch something happy now, after all these feels.
My only complaint about the last ep is that A1 skipped the audience's reaction at the end of the performance.
But WOW, they made up for it with the way they portrayed Kaori's letter. As soon as "Kirameki" started playing I couldn't hold a single tear in anymore.
If I ever rewatch this, I don't think I can make it through watching "Hikaru Nara" without crying. ;_;
Wasted potential for me. The anime was overdoing so many things...
Besides the first half made me hate the main cast, so I could enjoy the second half that was supposed to be better. The only likeable character was Kashiwagi.
But just like everyone I can't ignore the beautiful art and OST.
Taking into consideration that we all knew where it was going and how the series played out all the bad with the good. the cat scene was a connection to the cat story as a child most likely the same cat that he had a child feed and toke care of with it on the street or one that looked like it anyway. the cats death to me was needed and not needed at the same time. the need was to so he was letting go of the past and its hold over him. the unneeded part was showing it get hit in the first place. overall i loved the series and it was and is a masterpiece to me.
