Well, if anyone realized that Faust was scrawled all over the walls in German you would have guessed that it won't end well. Oh God, that white creature's got to be evil

I hope it's evil, that'd be an awesome subversion of the Magical Girl genre. =)

Haha. In any case, Madoka Magica is quite enjoyable. Dark? Yes, I wasn't really expecting that to happen in EP 3 after that talk with Mami and Madoka.

No kidding. Episode 3 was dark, and episode 4 even more so. I was expecting a typical moe moe mahou shoujo anime at first, and then they go all Higurashi.

So that was their plan after all.

Dark + cute theme is quite interesting.
I think the reason why they did not show the ED animation was because of this plan.

Well, if the link to Faust is actually real and not them trying to sound mystical and dark then I would be betting that this is true. People should read more, maybe they'd be less inclined to watch most of the crap the anime biz tries to shove down our throat's.

And seriously, the script-writer's other "heartwarming" series was Saya no Uta, what'd everyone expect? It's turned out darker than I thought (or it's gone farther than I thought it would for a tv series, I guess), but it wasn't exactly unexpected.

Dear scenario writer Urobuchi Gen.

You BASTARDS always do that...you just kill a heroine at the click of the finger. Just to end with some cheap, spontaneous climax, or go for a shallow attempt at making headlines: Have you ever thought about how a killed-off heroine might feel?!

Quoted from kami-sama from the manga The world only god knows.

ahhhh I just had to say it, now it's DONE!

I don't think I've ever watched anything of his but reading these posts makes me wanna watch his other works.

I was sort of expecting something more mature since it wasn't colored in bright colors and the somewhat creepy music but man! XD I like anime that turn topsy-turvy.

So after hearing so much about Saya no Uta, I decided to get my hands on it and i managed to get the true ending....

It's probably the most disgusting and disturbing story I've ever read...but also one of the most beautiful...

Props to Urobochi Gen for writing the story of such a fantastic visual novel. So far, Madoka has been really enjoyable, probably the best anime this season. Hopefully it remains this way to the end :)

Just finished the episode three... OMG. That's crazy.
I'm not even gonna lie - I was scared as a mug because I heard that it was a horror anime - and by the time I heard that I had already watched the first two episodes . So I figured by episode 5 the witches were gonna do something creepy ...
Dude ! I was not expecting a decapitation so early in the series ! :O

I was /really/ surprised at this show. I thought it was going to be all cutesy, yet... the ending was so dark... that I began to wonder. And then, episode 3 caught me completely off-guard. I was shocked. And thus, for me, it is officially the best anime of the season, hands-down. And to think I watched it on a whim because I wanted to try out a "magical girl" anime. What a pleasant surprise.

(And Riga92, I don't think I'll ever play Saya no Uta - looks to disturbing!)

Well, I knew it's only going to get more Nitro+ as the show progressed. Plus, Shinbo loves doing stuff like these, wouldn't have put it past those 2.

Episode 3 was amazing.

I agree. If this was a "cute healing" series I would probably be dropping the series. Sailor Moon gives me enough sacchine to kill a horse. I like the edginess of the series so far. It's to bad it's only 12 episodes.
What if the Hokey Pokey is what it is all about?

He shouldn´t apologize. Episode 3 was glorious and so is the rest, it´s lovingly dark and eerie and a probably nearest to reality mahou shoujo anime.
Those otakus shouldn´t be such whineys and get a life, Mami is only a 2D character after all. And they´ve got plenty more to fap too.

I had my doubts, so I was not completely trolled. That's not what I'm amused from though. I'm amused Madoka is yet to become a magical girl! I mean, all this gore talk, head cut off, dying, drama, blah-blah, it's all happened before. But this is something new! I approve ^_^
I have yet to see some serious drama that would tear my heart away, blah-blah-blah, or some really great gore (though I admit that one thing in ep 3 was awesome and I rewinded it, not realizing what's just happened) but there's still time :3

Ahh so they deliberately planned to troll all the little kids who believed they were watching a happy magic girl anime. I see I see. At least he's coming out and apologizing (while probably laughing on the inside).

Little kids watching an R+ show that late at night deserve to be scarred for their stupidity anyways.

I might start watching this now I guess. Didn't interest me in the beginning.

Well, yeah personally I won't accept his apology because there' nothing to be sorry for.
I read war stories and listens to tragedy, and upon experiencing something as despicable and airheaded as magical girls, I had sworn I'd never touch something of the likes. Ever.

But this one's brilliant.

Well, if you have to troll someone, you might as well go all out and put out more stuff like Madoka. It's not everyday that you can create something with a potential to cause extreme psychological scarring to the characters that's on par with shows like Evangelion.

It's an amazing show.

I completely agree, it's by far the best show of the season.

In all honesty, the mahou shoujo genre needed to be spiced up a bit. And then Madoka entered, and all was good with the world

I second all of this completely, I didn't expect much from the show but had a friend recommend it to me by saying "Never judge a book by it's cover" and well she was right. Madoka takes the mahou shoujo genre and not only redifines it but makes it intriguing and exciting to the viewer. Best show of the season by far, topped what I thought was best show of season, Kore wa Zombie Desu ka.
