Saying Gachiakuta's animation is average is pretty much undermining the anime in general.

The funny thing is, this can be said to any other new anime on the rise with this criticism. The Promised Neverland, Fire Force, Spy x Family, and the first 2 seasons of 7 Deadly Sins would be considered average by your definition.

@feyyazu35 Dorohedoro, one of the best CGI anime, is still one of the worst CGI products, considering how good Eastern CGI is and how awful anime CGI is. It also doesn't change the fact that AOT was terrible at first; if it improves, it doesn't mean everything that came before will be cancelled.
Moreover, saying that Mappa is perhaps the best studio is the most false thing one can say...

@ZeroMajor12 No, I consider Fire Force to be a better animation, as is Spy X Family. I consider Nanatsu to be average for the first two seasons, but slightly better than Gachiakuta. TPN has never shone in terms of animation.

The first part of AOT is already mostly bad, but you have to understand that there is a big difference between the Mappa of that time and the Mappa of today :)


And as I said, Mappa is undoubtedly one of the best studios in the industry right now. If you're not ignorant, you know I'm right :)

The Seven Deadly Sins is the closest in quality to Gachiakuta if that's what you meant, but animation shouldn't be as easy as just saying the art style looks eh or the action isn't that fun.

I wish this was what animation averages to in anime, lol. Unfortunately, anyone who tries even just a handful of new shows per season knows this not to be the case. This show doesn't have the best animation I've seen in anime — either all time or even just this year — but to say it's average is a willful misrepresentation of the truth, Gachiakuta is definitely A or B tier; not S (not the greatest), but also not C or lower (average or bad).

For average animation, look to This Monster Wants to Eat Me (C-tier, sometimes D), Ranma ½ (2024) (C-tier, sometimes B) or Sakamoto Days (mostly D-tier).

@feyyazu35 Yeah, okay, basically a way of saying: let's erase every questionable show they've made while we can get excited about the new movie they've made... from that premise any studio would be better as long as they make a decent show while ignoring all the previous shows 😂

Admitedly, it is not Bone's best work ever, that said... it is eons better than most 2020s anime

The animation is good.
The art direction is very bad.
The photography is good.
The episode direction is generally good, but sometimes it can be very good.
The pacing is terrible

It's sad to see that most people don't know the difference between an extremely well-made animation by a top-tier animator in a specific episode and the animation of the anime in general. 😥

@Desmascarado I know that this episode has been animated better than the previous ones, but the previous episodes also have been animated quite well. It has never been just average in terms of animation.

I’ve got to agree on this. Nothing about this show is amazing and just because it’s consistent doesn’t make it good. Every week this show drops a rank for me.
