BAAAAANG THEY STUCK THE ENDING. Greatest modern Gundam. A love letter to OG fans. I still wanted more episodes, but the hype moments were just too much for me to deny this greatness. This was perfect. I was really nervous how they’d wrap everything up in such a short period of time, but the mad lads went above and beyond. Now do more in this timeline/multiversal era plesse.

There’s a lot to unpack here, but I’ll start with the Shuji stuff. I’m still a little confused on who or what exactly he’s supposed to be. We all thought Amuro would be the one piloting the RX 78-2. Is Shuji’s Amuro’s spirit or what? Either way, the fact he’s basically been chasing Lalah from timeline to timeline erasing these worlds she’s made is crazy. He’s basically the Gundam version of the TVA. Poor thing never stopped and asked himself if there were another way.

Lmaooo at Char packing up Kycilia very similar to how he did in the original timeline “from this point forward, you can keep Gihren company” 😭 it’s even crazier when you remember she was just praising he and Sayla as ideal kids that made her want to become a mother. Somethings never change I guess.

Some of the best 3DCGI animation you’ll ever see in this episode. Char vs Chalia, the GFreD and Gquuuuuux vs Gramps, it was incredible. Studio Khara brought their A game to this and you’d expect nothing less really. I loved the animation in the EVA rebuilds, think it fits Gundam very well. That Machu and Nyaan tag team fight felt like past meets present which is fitting because that’s basically what Gquuuuuux as a series is. I fucking lost it when we got a giant force ghost gramps tho 😂

“I’m not alone because the gquuuuuux was always by my side” OH SHIT THEY WENT FULL EVANGELION!! EVEN DOWN TO THE SUIT ROAR. The OST even feels like an EOE remix lmao. The last 8 minutes is where I started jumping up and down because BITCH DID SHUJI JUST CONFESS TO MACHU AND A KISS?!!! WHAT!!

So the power of love saves the day after all, that Kira-Kira explosion at the end was absolutely beautiful. Really this was the best possible ending, I wanted more Kycilia, but you could never rest peacefully knowing she was in charge of Zeon. Sayla being the leader in this timeline is like Minerva in Unicorn era, she’ll lead with kindness. CHAR AND LALAH REUNION!!! This means everything to me, they finally get to be happy together. And Nyaan and Machu finally reach earth. Nyaan has a place where she belongs now. WE EVEN GOT MF ANQQI BACK IN THE SHOW HELLO?!!

Gquuuuuux isn’t without its flaws, but idc man I loved this shit. The nostalgia bait was too strong for me to resist and I love evangelion so this was basically two of my fave franchises mashed together and it just worked. I just want them to do more with this and start giving us more mainline UC stuff past unicorn as well. Gundam is too damn good not to milk better than sunrise are doing!!
@Marinate1016
I wish that they would have explained more about Shūji as well, there’s still a lot of unknowns about him. But from what I’m gathering, I’m not sure that he’s a real person per se, he’s more of a spirit traveling between realities to “fix” what was broken by Lalah. He might be a being that was created simply for that task.
The Gundam wasn’t his. Shuji summoned the Gundam from another reality, but I’m not sure that it was even the real Gundam but rather another spectral being like him, which would explain why he could enlarge it and give it the Ring of Gundam color scheme. The Gundam is what connects each reality, after all, so if Shuji is just a spirit or a Newtype manifestation, then he could probably tap into that power and use the Gundam as his own… Because the Gundam exists everywhere, in each reality. The Gundam is always a constant, the center of every reality.

Lots of exciting moments and plotlines, with such stylish art and directing, but I do think we can definitively say this show was stopped from being great by being so rushed.

Eyyyyy a kinda sorta happy end for all the main characters! This world's Char and Lalah get to finally meet. Bull's life is spared by Xavier. Bull, Xavier andb Comoli are working together on the same side again now. Machu and Nyaan finally make it to the Ocean on Earth. Machu also finally let's her parents know that she's alive lol Shu and his world's Lalah both survive and go back to their world. And not to mention, Machu and Shuji kiss!!! 😊 (not sure when Shuji devolped feelings for Machu tho, but I'm just happy for my girl, so who cares!) Oh and on that note, Nyaan was also way to quick to agree / was way too happy about partnering up with Machu to fight Shuji 😅 But then again Nyaan had been through enough confusion and trauma for one day, she was probably just happy to be able to reconcile with Machu again. And finally, it's nice that Machu is optimistic about seeing Shuji again one day. Love how she copies his mannerism now that she can hear what her Gundam says too. All in all, a solid ending I cannot complain about.

Not to mention, the fights in this final episode were insane!!!! Loved every single one of it, the animation team did amazing work!!!

I only have on question tho. Why were Char and Bull fighting? I was kinda hoping/expecting them to be more happy about finally seeing each other again after all this time, concidering how long Bull was searching for him 😅 Also gotta love their priorities. World is about to end and instead of helping out, Bull rather fight about politics and leave saving the wolrd to the children!? 😂 Bro wtf

Oh well, still enjoyed this anime a lot! Especially the later episodes where Machu felt less useless and actually did some insane stuff! Guess the criminal life is the one for her lol (altho, I feel like she should get pardoned, since you know... she saved the universe and all).

Gotta admit tho, 90% of the time I had no idea what was going on B plot wise with Kycilia, Char, Bull, etc. Thankfully it didn't take away much from the A plot with Machu & friends. Whenever something was happening that I didn't understand in the B plot, I was just like "imma assume it gets explained in Gundam 79 lol" and moved on 😂

There is one question that does bother me tho, who tf is Artesia? Is that Char's little sister from Kycilia's flashback?

Anyway, once again loved this anime! Probably an 8 or 9 out of 10 for me (still debating on what final score to give it 🤔).

Oh and one last thing, who's voice was and hands were that coming from GQuuuuuuX? Was it just a random personification of the Gundam or a reference another character?
@Ckea Bull, being a newtype, can feel Char's desire to destroy Earth. Artesia is his sister, he loves her, but they don't have much screentime. You can watch Origin for that. Voice of Prince Endymion — Amuro, protagonist of the OG Gundam, Char's rival. He was fighting him and Lalah during the flashback sequence.

It was cool, a charming mess and of course it could have been the most ambitious Gundam shows in the two last decades.

But they didn't intend to make more out of it, which is just a shame.
they had only 12 episodes, must have shown clan battles, had to make UC references, had to add romantic vibes.

everything is fine, but I have no fucking idea why the stupid Gundam grows up to 500 meters.

Did Shūji pull the RX-78-2 out of his ass? I thought it would have a pilot to enter the dimension.

The after scenes were again very short paced, but I loved the Lalah w Char scene a lot.

You know I really don't get how people compare GQUX's use of the Multiverse to something like Marvel.

Because at least when Marvel does multiverse stuff, they make sure you know it's about the multiverse beforehand, you don't go into No WaY Home, Deadpool and Wolverine or Multiverse of Madness not knowing those are about the multiverse, they don't advertise something else and completely blindside you with the multiverse out of nowhere.

Like if Marvel did the multiverse the way GQUX did No Way Home would be advertised as a Daredevil movie all about Daredevil fighting Kingpin, and then barely halfway through the movie alternate versions of Spider-Man show up and take over the narrative, and it turns out everything is caused by an alternate Mary Jane trying to dream up a world where Peter Parker doesn't die.

And also some random guy wears the Raimi Spider-Man suit, despite not being a version of Peter Parker, fights Daredevil and is in love with Mary Jane and nothing about that guy gets explained at all.

What an ending. Told you Char was going to beamcannon Kycilia. Canon in every timeline.

Like everyone else is saying, a lot of questions unanswered in this show. Which just made me remember how FLCL ended. Given that this was directed by the same guy, it made me remember how none of my questions were answered on that show, either. But I enjoyed it to the max because of how crazy and insane it was.

On the "who the hell is Shuuji" question, I'm gonna side myself with the twitter theories, a super newtype that kills Char but somehow can travel with Lalah. Was he the one who sent Amate the message in episode 1?

I also agree that this show lacked character development. But that doesn't mean that it was bad, most people won't remember Nyaan but I will remember Machu very clearly as a great main protagonist. Also, because I'm biased of her voice actress. Chalia Bull also did a good job at being relevant, the clan battles were a hassle to be honest... reading most opinions here and on twitter show that you either love the insanity and nonsense of this show, or you just hate the characters because of the pacing.

I loved the UC fanservice, although that big ass White Gundam was a crazy pull at the end. Can't believe Sunrise brought Furuya-san for two lines. Animation was excellent but the music was the better part of the show. Modern, teenager tunes that have refreshed my playlist. Pretty much loved every insert song.

I have said it already, but giving this show 12 episodes was the big mistake. I enjoyed the crazy ride a LOT and I'm glad most of the internet did too. The earth arc should've been longer, damnit. With such a reception, I hope Sunrise doesn't forget that we need yearly Gundam shows.

I am convinced that's not Artesia in the epilogue. That's Ramba and a very young Hamon...

7/10

The ending was really really silly and honestly a letdown.

The only saving grace was we saw Ramba Ral still alive and kickin it!

This series was a mess. I liked it but I also hated it.
I think I would have enjoyed it more if they just adapted Ghirens Greed on some level.
This just made me realize how much I love Universal Century and want more of it.

Really liked the show. Enjoyed watching it every week. But, that ending didn't really click with me. Shuji magically making his gundam grow was kind of ridiculous. All the betrayals (Char and Challia) and reunions (Machu and Nyaan) just happening so quickly made it feel very off/half-baked.

It didn't really bother me through episode 1-11, but now that it's over I actually do agree that the story was way too rushed and under-cooked. The visuals, music, and voice acting were top notch, but stuff like Machu and Nyaan becoming friends, being jealous, splitting and fighting, to then reuniting at the end felt so rushed. That happened over the course of like, four episodes? And they barely interacted with each other throughout those episodes so that when they finally decided to work together again it was like... Okay, cool I guess. Give this show 24 episodes and it could have hit a better landing.

Still a very enjoyable watch.

They did the classic thing. They hid the plot being incredibly stupid by trying to make it confusing to figure out. No one even bats a fucking eye at the fact shuji is trying to kill an entire universe of people. Like, who gives a fuck what lalah wants, he's killing billions of people if he succeeds and he's apparently already done this countless times. He's killed more people than have even ever existed. He's literally the worst person that could possibly exist and we are supposed to care about his feeling and lalah's over the billions of people that lie in the balance? Nyaan casually isn't effected by the massive amount of people she killed last episode and is chilling at the beach but then again, she doesn't have an actual consistent characterization to begin with. The new characters do not behave like humans, the old characters don't behave intelligently, and final boss was big gundam defeated by kissing it's pilot through space magic.

This was AWFUL. I'm actually flabbergasted that anybody has a different opinion on this matter.

Absolute key-jangling fanfic nonsense that seeks to deliver the most undeserved feelgood finale after a series of burying every interesting premise it has. The culmination of a failure to generate characters with any substance while full throating the works of the past ends on the flimsiest fanservice nothingburger of an ending possible. Choreography is a messy tumble of terrible designs through space, with lasers and occasional 'look how cool' slow-mo action flash freezes that are sure to impress the absolute infants who glaze this trash. A loveletter to Gundam penned by the most sophomoric of hands with doodles of Evangelion in the margins. But did you see? Ramba Ral was alive at the end! I remember that guy. 10/10.

I was fucking squealing when the Gquuuuuux pulled out this move lol.

I've read that Anno was only involved for the flashback sequences but this show really does feel like a love letter to EVA, from the design of the GFreD to the Halos that appear when Gquuux awakens, to fucking Amuro's soul himself inhabiting the Gundam. Nyan even pulls the signature Shinji depressed on the chair pose after Kycillia gets assassinated. There are probably a lot more references that I've missed but Khara definitely had fun creating this show.

As a longtime Evangelion and Gundam (though i've only watched one series from UC) fan, this show was literally peak fiction. People complaining about the script are completely missing the point, this was meant to be a spectacle and boy was it glorious.

Well, I’m an old school 0079 fan, so I came away loving this. When the original trailer dropped and it was mostly talking about Machu, and clan battle stuff, I thought it looked ok and was mildly interested in it. But after seeing the cinema release, I was sold. For me the show did not disappoint. Yeah, it’s pure fan-candy, and I ate it right up.

The animation in this episode was incredible. I love the use of color, light and shadows. They took Kira-Kira to another whole level. The scene of Gquuux running up the gargantuan white Gundam's arm was such a strong visual. And the sound effects? The music? Just perfect.

I truly wish Gquuux was longer. The start was good and they've nailed the finale, but the middle was super rushed. As someone who hasn't whatched much gundam, a bit more of time spend fleshing the returning and the original characters was needed to actually be able to connect with them.

@RinTheWanderer Honestly, Nyaan being unbothered by murder is probably the most consistent part of her character, she was fine with killing the Black Tri-Stars earlier in the series, revelling in the power she had over them, so her being unbothered by the near genocide she almost commited is fine in my opinion.

Now Machu having literally nothing to say to her about the absolute slaughter that she witnessed her commit, when she was fairly bothered at the fact that Shuji killed Shiiko despite the fact that Shiiko was gunning for Shuji's head... That does feel out of character.

As someone whose first Gundam was WfM, I really enjoyed GQuuuuuuX, I would even say I loved it. Even though I haven't watch the OG, I know just enough about it to understand GQuuuuuuX, but man, I agree with everyone else that this really needed more episodes, even just another cour would have probably made it a whole lot better. I can't believe they decided 12 episodes is enough.

Show is a big sign for me though that says "time to watch the OG". They really only gave us Amuro for a few seconds though and confirmed he was in the GQuuuuuuX then dipped. Where did Haro come from though, Annqi even got another one, where tf is she getting them.

Comoli really just served cunt the whole season, love her.

It's cool that the ED is actually just showing Nyaan and Machu's life after the show, happy for them, as long as they don't go finding Shuji...

Now to cap things off, WHO THE FUCK IS SHUJI?

A finale with a bang, not only in a figurative sense, but the format of only 12 episodes, brings with it the original sin of having taken away the possibility of developing adequately and well a bit of everything, starting with the characters too flat and not very characterized and ending with the plot that does not make it clear where it wants to go and what it wants to explain in the end, a real shame since in the end this anime series is not aimed at a new and young audience, but winks more at an audience of fans of the brand. On the positive side, there is the very high quality of the graphics, animations and sound department, which is why in the end, I give the anime series an overall rating of only 8.5 and not a nice full 9.

We finally get to see Machu pair up with Nyaan. Their synergy and fight was cool

It's crazy how Lalah can just create alternate universes, isn't she a god at this point?

I got played for the second time now. I thought Shuuji died, but Machu hit me with a "GQuuuux said we'll meet again". Goddamn, can we move on from him please? I get that Shuuji is an important character now since he came from the other side, but it wasn't really enjoyable watching two of our main leads fiending over him.

One thing I really like from this series is the music though. I was more excited in listening to the OST than learning about the plot.

Kinda got yuri baited. 7/10

The ending feels so Gunbuster/Diebuster, and you could see the director's influence throughout anime. I did somewhat enjoy this new gundam, but definitely wouldn't put it up to other short titles like the other 12 ep. 08th MS Team

It was still quite a mess and I can understand why people would disliked it for the pacing and in general the delivery of themes but it just feels weird to see almost everyone thinking this is the worst gundam.

@deltahalo241 Oh yeah, Nyan was literally smiling while killing, but the entire space station was still too much...

So Amuro was inside the Gquuux Gundam this whole time and Shuji is just fan-made.
I really liked this anime even though Amuro didn’t show up directly — 8/10.

It took 12 episode but we finally got the remaining answers regarding how this universe connected to the original 0079 one, who Shuji is (kind of, at least what his role is) and why Char is here with his connection with Lalah. I can kind of understand Shuji and the reason Machu is stopping him, but the problem is that along the series it was quite cumbersome for me to empathize with her considering how she behaved. Sure, in this episode at least she sent some messages to her mother but that part with her life up to that point never really got a proper resolution.

Then there's Nyaan whose backstory was saddening but also never gave me much to really care about her circumstances. She was too obsessed with Shuji at a point or just making vague statements here and there. In fact I ended up caring more about Chalia Bull considering he had a clear purpose. I also liked how Xavier ended up being more of a witness but on the realistic side ask reasonable questions while the other ensign girl whose name I forgot didn't end up amounting to much.

In the end, what I'll take out from this show is the soundtrack and the robot battles (as per usual with mechas). Maybe with another take on the cast I'd have liked it more.

Shuji went back to the other side after failing to kill Lalah and being kissed by Machu Kycilla was killed Char was not killed by the White Gundam machu and Nyann are chilling at the beach on Earth which was not wiped out So Char and Lalah get to be together instead of being wiped out by Shuji

I felt like they stuck the landing in the end somehow lol.

I'm new to Gundam and this show was aight. It makes me intrigue in UC Gundam as a whole and made me look up alot of stuff related to it in the process.

If i haven't look anything up and watch the show for what it really is, i am sure i would be left confused by the end.

@Fragilebody That's called poor pacing, which this show has in spades.

Yea… that was not great. I genuinely dont know how they let the crew working on this do their whole neon gundam evangelion thing but wouldnt even give them two cours. This was so rushed for what they were trying to do, it ended up being pretty flawed due to this. No amount of nostalgia and retro music will make up for the pacing and poorly written main characters.

This anime had two directions it could of gone in, and did both and failed. I swear to you there was an outline for two equally good different gundam animes. Here's how it could of worked:

Show 1: 24 episodes. The Shuuji/Nyaan/Amate teenage drama show but strip out all the Universal Century stuff. How would it work? Well, Gundam Seed/WFM/Code Geass did it just fine. Just throw teenagers in mecha suits and have nearly the same premise. Clan Battles, followed by a big attack that gets them split up into opposing factions. Really press into the faction drama. Have Nyaan blow up the colony they were on with all of Amate's friends and family. Have Amate kill a pilot friend of Nyaan after she finally warms up to them. Conflict. Superweapon. Final rewarding fight against each other. Shuuji either dies or chooses a girl. Credits. THIS IS THE GUNDAM SHOW FOR ALL THE NEW WITCH FROM MERCURY FANS! (of which there are a lot of new fans coming in) It has the pokemon trainer designer. It's brand new and shiny! This show isn't for the unadapting old guard.

Show 2: 24 episodes. Remove Shuuji/Nyaan/Amate. Remove pokemon trainer designs. Who's the protag? Char. It's Char, if you're going to do all this bullshit to build up to a happy ending with Char x Lalah make us actually care. This relationship is so undercooked that even Gundam Origin it was just about him saving her once from her life and that's it. SHOW US them together. SHOW US an actual relationship. Not just an "oh and char died so i space haruhi'd a universe over and over" Also if one of the biggest ending plotpoints was Char's sister, Sayla/Artesia taking over what's left of Zeon. Then she should probably have voice lines. Literally ANY voice lines. Like multiple episodes of plot relevance. Make a show that isn't packaged for new fans. Make it not deceiving in it's marketing. It's more Char. More Gundam Origin. Char sells.

I would watch and enjoy either one of these purposed shows, but not it's weird sloppy hybrid. Yup.

It is truly hilarious that there so much whining about this series that amounts to "This was the worst Gundam ever! And it was so short!" I mean, I know that Gundam fans are gluttons for slop and the more the better but seeing it on such direct display here is very funny. Its also really sad and makes me question if this series is actually good for anything other than selling toys but here we are.

I love Hideaki Anno and the way that he makes anime. This feels like he finally got to make one for himself (as he's been doing with his recent movies too) and wasn't beholden to specifically make something that would draw in anyone new or that wasn't as big of a Gundam nerd as him. I'm glad that I got to experience it and that he got to make it the way he did. I always laugh when people defend terrible anime by saying people didn't get it but I'm dangerously close to doing that here. Clearly a lot of people wanted 52 episodes of dogshit where blingwads shoot lasers at each other, kids scream at each other about their opposing black-and-white faction politics, and Bandai can introduce 50 new toys and this is 10000000% not that. With how much I love Iron Blooded Orphans I don't think the long-form Gundam series about war being bad is a dead format but with how fucking terrible almost every other Gundam series is I think an experiment with a 12 episode series directed by someone that makes anime that's about more than blingwad laser robot fights is worth a try.

@LotteGiants its that they tried to do way too much in 12 episodes, no character development and pacing was bad. Nobody is saying “i want 12 more episodes of this!”…well most arent, they’re saying for what the staff wanted to do here it needed to be more. Anno only worked on the flashback stuff, and maybe thats all he was interested in. I agree with the user above you that it was like two anime that needed 24 episodes shoved into 12. Personally id have preferred it just be an alternative reality with char as main character. They need to try and pull in new fans though… with pokemon trainer characters.

@Fintan The complaint that the series was too short (or that Gundam series are best when they're long) is something I see constantly in these threads and other places about this series. I don't think people are intentionally making the "The food here is terrible! And such tiny portions!" joke but it is something I've seen a lot of.

It's funny that in the endings was a spoiler of the ending, but in general, like 12 episodes and not enough, and on the other hand, the questions and not left, maybe the only attitude of the characters would be better revealed, but in any case for the ending plus points.

This anime 100% cannot stand on his own.
All the scenes that hype me up were from the original cast.
Hell, Amuro's voice gave me the chills, that's how hype the final scene was.
Also the EVA fighting the white Gundam was ABSOLUTE CINEMA!

A weak Gundam series is still better than 80% of the anime that aired this season. That tells me how consistent this franchise is.

They tried to put too much into 12 episodes. I could see myself watching another season of this, but I rather prefer another Gundam show.

@LotteGiants it could have been 12 episodes and been fine… Thats not the point, its that they tried to fit way too much into 12 episodes and it ended up very poorly paced with characters seeming bi polar with how quickly their feelings and motives would change(again because pacing was so bad, and not enough time to build the character progression needed for any of it to work). They could have done a 12 ep show that had a far more simplified plot, and thatd be fine.
