Heck even the supposed 20-episode rule for Black Clover seems like a daunting enough task already

But even if I do dislike it, I will still be giving Black Clover at least 20 episodes or so. I'll power through Asta's yelling and give it a chance to prove itself

I'd rather watch the part where it gets good first, to decide whether it's worth it to continue. Yeah, u may miss some points, but it won't affect the experience that much. If u liked the good part, u can always continue to watch the previous episodes to get those minor details later.

No, good or bad watching anime is not because you are required to watch 300+ eps or anime has many episodes, like you have a list of favorite anime of course you want to watch many episodes/continuations even though the anime may not have a sequel.

I’m fine if it takes a while to get good. As long as I’m satisfied having seen it, I don’t really care, but if it takes 300 episodes then I’ll probably not get to that point 💀

I started one piece last year and now I am caught up, all I can say is that it's definitely worth it and I am so glad that I started it. At first, I rather watch/read 100+ good anime/manga than 1000+ episode/chapter one piece, so what I did is I watch/read 100+ good anime/manga first and then watch one piece. It's all about mindset

One Piece is the famous example right, it's fantastic nowadays but the beginning is rough.

As long as the portion that's really good is sufficiently long, I don't mind sitting through a bit of dreg.

I believe a show can be good after a certain amount of episodes, but if it needs a ton of episodes before it gets good, then it will never reach masterpiece status for me.

Going from liking it a little to liking it a lot is possible.

But from disliking it to loving it? Nope, unless there are some relevant changes in terms of production value or animation studio from one season to another.

source: I watched 300+ episodes of Gintama and it got worse instead

I think its this right here. If you start out thinking something is ok, and then it gets really good then heck even better. But if it starts out crappy, then I doubt you are going to truly love it, especially after THAT many episodes.

Even if it gets better after 300 eps and it is the best thing ever, I'm not watching it

I don't care if its bad or good since I watch everything.

you can read the whole manga of One Piece in 2-3 weeks yet it will take you 4 months to watch the whole series. Do the math

No.

Why does it only start to get good after 300 or so episodes? I don't think something gets good when you reach a threshold as such because quality increases, but rather the time you spent with the anime, with the characters, and the other story details. But if you don't really care too much about it in the first place, then what is the point of continuing.

Think of Clannad. That show never really had "peak writing", you just stuck along with the characters long enough to know how they behave, their backgrounds, the issues they have been through and yada yada. The only reason why people enjoyed it more is that it felt more powerful than the prior season. When major story events happen in the series, it's more impactful given how much you know about these people and what they have been through. But if you don't care about Clannad S1, then how are you going to care about the same people who are in the next season taking up alllllllllllllllllllll the screentime lol? Especially for a drama too. You actually need some sympathy for the people in said drama. You get that through connections.

Most fiction is better in the first half because this is where a story puts in work to establish the world and rules, establish and develop character dynamics, etc. This is the foundation that whatever big dumb dramatic "holy shit" moments there are near the end of the show rely on.

There's no such thing as "it gets good after episode x." If you squander the beginning, you're squandering the most important part.

fwiw most people here are ADD and think anything that's "low stakes" or episodic is boring, so they'll say this about a lot of shows even when it's not true.

Nah i dont believe that. So many people recommended me gintama saying this arc is good or that arc is good. Some also say that the early arcs were boring so you can just skip it. But i refuse to believe any of that. As funny or as epic gintama people claimed it to be i don't care. I will only watch it when i'm in the right mood to binge it. As of now i'll just go at snail's pace with one episode per month. I don't want to force myself to watch bland and unfunny episodes of gintama.

Good point lmao. I guess watching long running anime is pretty much the same as reading forum discussions. Some posts are good and helping, some are trolls that derails from the topic, some are haters, some are diehard fans. There's a lot of variety but not every post is pleasant to read.

Yep. Think of my previous post like the random recap episode or Filler or whatever or your post right here like the recap episode.

If it's not to my taste, I cut it off after five or fewer episodes. I can't wait 300 episodes to wait for it to get interesting.

It's sad how many people think this is something actually legitimate. There's no such thing as waiting 300 episodes for a show to become "good", maybe for it to become great or amazing, but certainly not just for it to be good or enjoyable to watch.
If you reply back to me and I never respond, I lost interest and don't care. Sorry about that.

If it takes 300 episodes to "get good" then it is not good. If a series needs 300 episodes to be interesting then it has poor writing and is a bad show. I wouldn't want to waste my time on that.

Ehh? What happened in the first 10 minutes of the first episode that could make the whole series unpleasant to you 🤔
The inciting incident doesn't even happen until the second half of the first episode, and the entire premise only starts from episode 2.

I am not a big fan of detective series. I do have a few I can tolerate but I can't even complete them as well (I always end up giving up in the 2nd half of the season, then placing them on hold. I have like 4 detective series on hold because of this). To add 1000+ eps of Detective Conan seemed like torture so I decided to drop it. I did take a peek into the second episode but it, unfortunately, didn't motivate me as well.
