i'm native english speaker (usa) and i'm in paris studying french but honestly, it's fucking hard. not necessarily the reading or writing, but the damn speaking and listening. you could pronounce the entire word but the french person has no idea what youre saying bc they pronounce only certain letters with 1000 exceptions. blows my mind.

i want to learn but sometimes i get discouraged.

I speak Spanish because I'm latina of Mexican origin.
I tried learning some German a while ago just for fun. I can recognize some words and sentences if I see it, but I can't speak it.
I want to learn Mandarin Chinese because of my husband. He was born and raised in northeast China. We want our kids to be trilingual in English, Spanish, and Mandarin.

I've grown up speaking french and english (CA)
I'm in a second year spanish class, but it's personally my first year, i've only been placed in second year because I switched schools and they have a completely different class system.
I've started slowly learning italian with a friend of mine one or two months ago.
I wish I could speak multiple languages but I have more important things to do right now sadly

I literally forgot my mother language, used to be Romanian but didn't use it for 15 years and I can't even understand it anymore. No big dial, I' don't ever need it.
Now my main Language is Italian, learned it in one month when I was a child, and I learned English in 5 months playing Tera online when I was 15.
As for no I'm studying French and next will be Japanese.

English: Native.

Japanese: Conversationally fluent. Can read and talk about pretty much anything besides the most complex topics. There's plenty of words I still don't know and my grammar ability is obviously not the same as a Japanese person's, but I've been doing fine in a Japanese-only work environment and have lived in Tokyo for the past couple years with zero issues, using only Japanese.

Korean: Beginner level. Can read the alphabet, know some basic words and grammar but have only really just started with the language.

Know Portuguese and English, am studying Japanese, and will also learn French and Spanish. I'd rather learn Italian but the latter two are necessary for the job I aspire to have. Spanish I think that in a year I can become quite good, since I studied it in school and it's a lot like Portuguese, but French I'll have to start from scratch.

Where do you have problems?
Sentence structure, articles, inflections, (in)separable prefixes, vocabulary, pronunciation, punctuation or something completely different?

Well I think I'm okay with pronunciation and just general understanding, but the hardest part is probably vocabulary, articles and sentence structure. But I guess I just need to put more work into it because It's something you just need to learn.

For the sentence structure, maybe this guide could help you. Basically, if you know where to place the verb, you have done more than half of the whole work.

For the articles, this video could help you with guessing the right one. The rest is more about learning the articles with the new vocabulary.

As for the vocabulary, if you know about the High German consonant shift, you might be able to recognize more words from English in German. Just be aware of "false friends" (edit: noticed that the link contains a grave syntax/sentence structure error in the quiz below. If you can notice it as well, you're good.)

In general, it is work to do, but nothing that would be impossible, as several millions of people have already proven that it is very possible to learn German as a foreign language. One of my colleagues from Bosnia has learnt the language by watching German TV the whole time when he was younger. Another one from Afghanistan has managed to learn the language just by being here. In either case, immersion is the key for fast learning.

Oh thanks for the website and video. I'll definitely check it out.
And yeah, the best way to actually learn German is to either be surrounded by the language or at least watch movies/ tv series or something like that in German. So maybe I'll start doing that.
