DH is reserved for Shohei Ohtani on everyone's team when?

What an achievement! And to still be productive at his age.

Imagine how many hits he'd have if he had come over earlier.. He'd take Rose's hit king crown with some extrapolating, although of course Rose cheated a bit himself in pursuit of that title, but I'm sure that's been discussed elsewhere ad nauseam.

Ichi3000!

What a legend.

I really wish I had seen it in person, but nonetheless....an amazing achievement for one of the all time greatest.

Now, let's go out there and make the playoffs!!!

Great career for Ichiro. Marlins have a good team so its nice that he's on a winner while this is happening going towards the playoffs.

Weird incoming retirements for Teixeira and A-Rod. Yanks made good trades to rebuild and are clearing their money in the next year.

Prince Fielder may be done as well because of his neck. Crazy how he and his dad, Cecil will have the same number of home runs at 319 each. Will always remember those Brewers playoff teams, some good years here.

ABSOLUTELY DEVASTATED RIGHT NOW.....

I was literally getting ready to go to today's game, when I heard the news....

I honestly just can't believe what I'm hearing....

In just 4 seasons Fernandez was already on track to being the best Marlins pitcher of ALL TIME!

This kid loved the game sooooo much, he won the rookie of the year, came back from Tommy John Surgery and pitched absolutely AMAZING in Miami only losing 2 times while pitching at Marlins Ballpark.

This is so horrific and unreal..

Rest in Peace Jose Fernandez

Goddamn man....this just is NOT fair...

As others have said before, just tragic and unreal with Fernandez. Couldn't believe what I was reading the first time I saw the headlines and heard of the news.

And I need to throw this out there. Also can't believe Vin Scully just called his final home game. It was a blast to hear him call Dodger home games all throughout the years. The storytelling really was something else, as was his neutral poise. I was always in amazement of what kind of fun facts he could pull out of the hat for all the various players, coaches, managers, and teams that came to visit Dodger Stadium.

Those Wild Card elimination numbers are looking awfully small now (for those not already out of it)!

Cards with a big win today, but it looks like the Giants and Mets also got one as well. Damn, didn't think I'd see a game with a solo shot, 2-run HR, 3-run HR, and slam from one team.

Want at least the Mets in again. Not sure if I'd like another Giants/Cardinals "underdog" World Series run like we always seem to get.

@SchnickelFritz, game tomorrow determines who gets 2nd in the AL West and possibly the 2nd Wild Card if a lot unravels.

Darn. I could actually catch that game on TV (8am here though). It'll either be @Nico- is the man of the day (and still alive) or you guys are both bums (if the Astros win)... haha

And seeing as you both probably want BAL to lose out, I still don't believe how they got this deep into the season with fewer than 30 total stolen base attempts.

Damn, I remember hearing about this the other morning. I haven't followed baseball in a long time (and even then I was only a casual White Sox fan) but I'd heard good things about one Jose Fernandez over the last few years. This guy was gonna be a legend of the game, with some saying he already was.

Real sadness to have to say goodbye to such a star. Like I said, I'm not a baseball guy, but I can only imagine what the baseball world is going through right now, especially the Marlins fans, the organisation and most of all Jose's loved ones.

Rest in peace.. <3

Well, the wild card would have been a long shot anyway.. The pitching just hasn't been up to snuff. I think last year spoiled me.

Good luck to your Mariners the rest of the way. They've had quite a dry spell.. It would be nice to see them in the postseason.

Damn! Now I have to root for the Rockies now since no one could get Kolten Wong in after his leadoff triple in the 9th, including his old college teammate. Some nice surprises too in what BAL and NYY were able to pull off in crunch time.

they are probably still relieved they didn't have to face the cardinals in the playoffs (literally dodger killers)

man how about dodger/sf battling for the pennant? that would be sickkk

though like i said we have to get through the cubbies, and they are damn good, but hey october baseball.......anything can happen

haha yup! My brother always lets me know how much he hates the Cards. Doesn't like the STL lettering on the hat nor the franchise itself. It's okay though. I used to watch quite a bit of Dodger games when I was in high school like he is now.

I'll admit something though. I have a Giants 2012 World Series shirt in my closet somewhere and refuse to wear it outside of the house, having taken the Dodger side of the rivalry. I even made tons of jokes about it to my brother, which I'm ashamed of now having seen things from a greater perspective. Respect is due where respect is due and I might just have to wear it proudly throughout this postseason run of theirs, whether they go all the way or not. After all, my loyalty stops after TB, STL, and ATL.

As for the Cubs, you definitely know I won't be rooting for them as a Cards fan! Doesn't matter if some of those guys were involved with the Rays or Cardinals previously (Maddon, Zobrist, Heyward, Lackey, etc.)... haha

Oh maybe, maybe it's the clothes we wear

But we're trash, you and me

Just trash, me and you

If we win the pennant, I will be absolutely overjoyed. After Carasco and Salazar went down, I lost hope for a deep playoff run. However, if Tito can work his voodoo (aka anti-Showalter) magic, it might be destiny. The Cavs run was "THE MOVIE". The Indians run would be "THE SEQUEL".
