I dont know what to say.........L giving Light a foot massage was probably the weirdest most random thing that ever happened in the series. Besides that it was a good episode.

I'm thinking it relates to the whole 'god' complex Light has. Think of the story of Jesus washing the disciples feet for them.

i think it might be symbolic of l's total submission to light, his complete subjugation/failure.

also, hirano aya ftw.

Dam that was another awsome episode D: So like, I thought the yaoi action would've been more. L seemed to like Light sooo much in that towel scene.

The foot massage scene was a total fanservice!~ XD
This scene wasn't in the manga and though I'm a Yaoi/Shounen Ai fan [and this scene, intentionally or not, was a Shounen Ai scene~] I hoped they would completely follow the manga, especially in this episode..>.<
Also, the singing Misa scene wasn't in the manga either ..and I hated it~, Misa looked like a scary doll [but I HATE Misa anyway.. so it doesn't matter how she looks like..>.>]
Oh, and it's such a shame that they didn't do the scene when after Light smiles right before L dies, L thinks to himself that he knew that Light was Kira.

Yeah, that Misa scene was totally creepy n--n' and I was pretty disappointed when the scene where L thinks himself that he knew Light was Kira wasn't on the episode...oh well, it was good one anyways.

I don't get it why she dressed up all in black and started singing all of sudden, but other than that this episode was excpetional. Now i wonder where the story is headed now since L, the guy who made the past episodes so great, is now dead.

mm, half of the episode really sucked, especially the whole L x Light fanservice thingy (although now that I see you guys say it's religious imagery I can appreciate it better but I still cringe at the FYGs), the other half was so awesome that it more than made up for it.

Singing Aya Hirano ftw. I don't care that she looks gothloli she's awesome ^^.

and wow, Light is playing his dual role so well that even though I'm gonna dislike him now after this episode (really, killing Rem was unnecessary, that was just bad), I can fully appreciate how well thought out this series is.

from my view he made for Rem to die 'coz she was also an obstacle. Now he can kill or do whatever he wants with Misa without having to worry about Rem.

Great stuff, finally animanda catches up and did a dual release today =)

the massage I thought at once that it was an allusion towards Jesus and the disciples etc. I really love this side of Light, he shows a true genius =) And we can all see his mind is somewhat becoming darker by the minute as powers usually do to people

The episode was great but sad. The whole foot massage thing gave me the impression that L really was either trying to get Light not to kill him (It seemed like he knew something was going to happen) or trying to seduce him. It was sad either way, and... yeah. Just an odd odd episode. Made me kinda sad.

That scene wasn't "yaoi" but it was definitely fanservice to all the teenage yaoi fans who watch Death Note. It unimpressed me and kinda ruined the otherwise excellent episode.
Episode 25 would have been a great last episode, I'm not looking forward to the rest even though I know that I'll end up liking it no matter what.

Finally. It's been quite the mind game, hasn't it?

When Light killed Rem as well, it just reminded me how deep that hole of dark power has gotten to him. I'm guessing this is the last "really kickass" episode of DN, since i hear that Mello and Near aren't that great and it's really rushed. Kind of like the last 20 seconds of "What's Up People?"

Omg, I mean I knew that in one episode L will die eventually, but... He was the greatest character in that story! How it can be still as interesting as it was after his death? ;< And then scene like 'well, we still have 2 of his kind! So you better watch out!' after L's death? It was really weird... Well, I still haven't watched DN to the end, but I doubt if it'll be the same without L...

The foot massaging scene is a reference to the bible. Jesus washes his disciples' feet right before Judas betrays him.

Figured it had some meaning, it wasn't that hard to tell. Just by simply seeing L in a lower position under Light on the staircase kind of showed that Light had won.

Pretty epic episode. Definitely sad.

Sweet, what do I win =þ

John 13
Jesus Washes His Disciples' Feet
1) It was just before the Passover Feast. Jesus knew that the time had come for him to leave this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he now showed them the full extent of his love.[a]
2) The evening meal was being served, and the devil had already prompted Judas Iscariot, son of Simon, to betray Jesus. 3) Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God; 4) so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist. 5) After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples' feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him.

6) He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, "Lord, are you going to wash my feet?"

7) Jesus replied, "You do not realize now what I am doing, but later you will understand."

8) "No," said Peter, "you shall never wash my feet."
Jesus answered, "Unless I wash you, you have no part with me."

9) "Then, Lord," Simon Peter replied, "not just my feet but my hands and my head as well!"

10) Jesus answered, "A person who has had a bath needs only to wash his feet; his whole body is clean. And you are clean, though not every one of you." 11) For he knew who was going to betray him, and that was why he said not every one was clean.

12) When he had finished washing their feet, he put on his clothes and returned to his place. "Do you understand what I have done for you?" he asked them. 13) "You call me 'Teacher' and 'Lord,' and rightly so, for that is what I am. 14) Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another's feet. 15) I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. 16) I tell you the truth, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. 17) Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.

Jesus Predicts His Betrayal
18) "I am not referring to all of you; I know those I have chosen. But this is to fulfill the scripture: 'He who shares my bread has lifted up his heel against me.'[a]
19) "I am telling you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe that I am He. 20) I tell you the truth, whoever accepts anyone I send accepts me; and whoever accepts me accepts the one who sent me."

21) After he had said this, Jesus was troubled in spirit and testified, "I tell you the truth, one of you is going to betray me."

22) His disciples stared at one another, at a loss to know which of them he meant. 23) One of them, the disciple whom Jesus loved, was reclining next to him. 24) Simon Peter motioned to this disciple and said, "Ask him which one he means."

25)Leaning back against Jesus, he asked him, "Lord, who is it?"

26)Jesus answered, "It is the one to whom I will give this piece of bread when I have dipped it in the dish." Then, dipping the piece of bread, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, son of Simon. 27) As soon as Judas took the bread, Satan entered into him.

"What you are about to do, do quickly," Jesus told him, 28) but no one at the meal understood why Jesus said this to him. 29) Since Judas had charge of the money, some thought Jesus was telling him to buy what was needed for the Feast, or to give something to the poor. 30) As soon as Judas had taken the bread, he went out. And it was night.

I managed to just watch this for the first time without knowing that L was going to die.

With hindsight, the Judas feet washing was symbolically ominous, but I just kind of figured that if L or Light was going to die, it would have to be very close to episode 37.

What on Earth can happen now that one of the two main characters is dead and Light appears to have just won? Well, I guess there's one way to find out, but I was very surprised that L died so long before the end of the story.

After Light Vs L, I think it would be hard for anything else not to be an anticlimax, especially if new characters are just introduced.

I was so worried that the anime wouldn't do the manga-version of L's death justice and so delayed watching this episode for aages >.< but I was impressed.. I mean seriously, the symbolism in this anime is ricidulously good -- it's almost like a film rather than an anime.. I loved the bit where Misa was there singing like a doll - she looked so much like a puppet it was creepy and really got across Light's hold on her. Also love to Light's red eyes when he looks back at Rem << awesome shot ^w^

and though the rain + towel scene was new (and totally unexpected xD), I really liked it *w* but maybe that's only because I'm a fan of the pairing anyway ^__^;; FANSERVICE!!!!! xD

but best of all was the way they did L's death TT_____TT I was so glad that they had Light smirking and that that shot was pulled directly from the manga.. I mean, wow.. what an ending.. though would have liked to hear L's thoughts then -- after all, he dies knowing that although he didn't get to solve the case, he was right.

L dying is still a massive shock even to me after reading the manga. The manga had a much different kind of suspense, with thoughts flying all over the pages. This is a lot more rushed and as a result, it feels just as good to watch but in a different sense, if you get my meaning.

I was pretty annoyed at the Yaoi fanservicing though - I REALLY don't recall that scene from the manga at all, and I just checked and no, it wasn't there. Clearly a fanservice, but I can overlook it because the death scene was played out oh-so well. It'll be interesting to see how Near and Melo develop in the anime, although I didn't really like either of them in the manga. It seemed like they seperated the two sides of L and apart, they weren't exactly appealing.

Regardless, I'm still intrigued to keep on watching.
