Jesus Christ, that chainsaw scene was brutal. Show got dark as it can get. More about Harold's past also revealed too. It's kinda just sad how events unfolded and revealed the dark side of their world. Tragic and sad imo. |

So is this the infamous “St Petersburg incident” that got cut from the beginning of the anime? I was gonna say it’s a bit late for Harold’s backstory but holy fuck man . They NEEDED this arc. Probably the best episode so far. Sozon’s death will forever haunt me. One of the most disturbing scenes I’ve seen in an anime. It just feels like everything came and went with Harold and Sozon so quickly man it hurts. We only had one episode with the guy, but you could see how close he and Harold were and there’s a ton of parallels to he and Echika’s current relationship. One minute we’re painting rooms green and having late night drinking parties as a family, the next you’re watching your best friend get chopped into 20 pieces by a serial killer. Life comes at you fast. You can actually see Sozon’s personality start to rub off on Harold over the course of the episode and Harold going from the uptight and traumatised Amicus bot he was at the start of this flashback, to the looser and witty person we know him to be with Echika. If there’s ANY consolation here it’s knowing Sozon lives on in Harold. He changed his life. I wonder what will happen to his wife though, I really hope she at least survived. No such thing as a “happy ending” here but that’s about the best we could get.. Along with the serial killer’s brutal and prolonged death. It’s one thing to kill someone, but to desecrate bodies and make a mockery of the dead is even worse. That 20 year old girl he chopped up and left on the bench reminds me of the Black Dahlia case from LA back in the 40s. Apparently St Petersburg Russia has a reputation for these sorts of crimes too 😳 just a crazy episode man. Did NOT think they’d be so graphic with the chainsaw and Sozon’s death. I wonder how the conversation Harold had with his “brother” at the start will come back into play here. |

The episode was focused on Harold and his past. The tone was a little darker since it was a background episode with a heavy theme. Sozon warned Napolov to be careful, telling him his wife would leave him soon if he didn’t stop gambling, but the guy never listened and ended up divorced during the three-year time skip, lol. Harold’s life was really rough. He was sold and bought illegally by the people with power, but his encounter with Sozon completely changed his life. He became a true part of Sozon’s family, joined the police under his guidance, and learned the job properly. The one who must have hurt the most was Darya, as she and Sozon were recently married, and Sozon was brutally murdered right in front of Harold. I wonder if Harold ever caught the person responsible. If I remember correctly, there was one person he killed, and if that person is the same monster in human skin, it would make sense. The ending was truly disturbing, not just because of the mutated body of the 20-year-old girl left on the bench, but also because we saw Sozon being mutated right in front of us. |

so... those who made this show sure were aware of St. Petersburg being called "Расчлененбург" ("Raschlenenburg" which means "Dissectionburg") because of numerous murder cases when bodies have been found dissected. ps: Sofia Marmeladova lol |

By far the best episode yet, they adapted the flashback almost perfectly. In some ways it's actually even better to see this without all the knowledge about Sozon that was in volume 1, so good job there. Great editing and pacing with Sozon and Harold's friendship and how they learn from each other, and the chainsaw scene was amazing, they really captured the horror and the trauma that Harold goes through, after which he makes his oath. It's a really nice change of pace to be positive for once. Other than the bit about how Harold ended up on the streets, they didn't cut anything and I really like how it was done. This arc should easily be the best one yet and it shouldn't suffer much from the lack of volume 1 as the setup here was great. For the first time, I'm genuinely looking forward to the next. |

The Nightmare of St. Petersburg setting with Harold being the nameless Novae Robotics's RF Model and his relationship with Inspector Sozon, though he and Harold soon begin butting heads over what did Amicus Robots do to creep him out, which even though may be much of a love-hate affair, he doesn't hate Amicus Robots in general, so much so for his partnership with the human Cyber-inspector along with Darya. All looks fine and well, so far. But just 2 years later, one gruesome murder turns heads with the Nightmare serial killer on the loose, which the CID quickly identify the respective killer, which leads Sozon directly to the killer himself (and Harold following soon after), which the dissecting with a chainsaw was quite the literate brutal nightmare. Definitely the episode that came WAY too late for the dropouts to connect the show towards, this is truly what's missing for the anime. Tithain said: Definitely. With a bit of context and connectivity to the central characters, this is by far the easiest redemption.By far the best episode yet, they adapted the flashback almost perfectly. I liked this episode. It was easily the best one so far, which made me realize Echika is a terrible protagonist and a very badly written character, and that she drags this show down. While the anime is partly at fault for skipping her backstory arc, but her dynamic with Harold is very dull, and there's nothing interesting about her as a character to make me care about her. This episode should have been the blueprint for the story. A buddy cop mystery thriller with Sozon and Harold solving serial murder cases, slowly bonding closer together and Harold becoming a real human bean in the process. Should have dropped all the Your Forma, Brain Diving and Amicus crap. None of it is interesting. |

By far the best episode to date. Harold's past was incredibly rough: stolen, auctioned off and finally left to fend for himself as a homeless robot. Sozon was the one who changed his life, took him into his family and gave him a job with the police. His death was brutal and heartbreaking, so much so that it even caused Harold to override his programming and redefine the law of respect after witnessing his death. This arc is going to be fascinating. If I remember correctly, they mentioned that Harold had killed someone; I really hope it was the bastard who murdered Sozon. Watching that scene was painful, and seeing Darya, his wife, suffer made it even worse. At least in the present, she is fine, and Harold carries her essence with him. |

apparently Sozon was the stupidest instructor of police detectives ever. he didn't teach Harold to call for backup BEFORE heading into a dangerous situation solo... AND Sozon didn't do the same thing for himself by going out to that cemetery solo. i hate it when fiction does this to police. we are PURPOSEFULLY made to look moronic and unable to follow good protocols, good training, good education, and gdamn it OBVIOUSLY LOGICAL THOUGHT PATTERNS. it really pisses me off. i just wish every gdamn writer etc. would stop doing this schitt and get things right from the start. Sozon is supposedly some hotshot cop with Holmes-adjacent abilities... and he walks into a freaking serial killer's hunting grounds... by himself. fugginA this schitt sucks hot sweaty donkey bawlz. i know the guy's gotta die because Harold has been taking care of Darya this whole time and several characters have talked about how Sozon was gone and died in the line of duty etc. but, blow the guy up in a random bombing. shoot him during a botched takedown of a smuggling ring. something better than... idiot WALKED HIMSELF INTO A SERIAL KILLER'S DEN! |

Looks like I’m not alone in thinking this was easily the best episode of the show, dare I say it’s good now lol, unfortunately it’s not gonna save the whole show but I really did love this episode. It was pretty obvious things weren’t gonna turn out well since Sozon is not with Harold in the present, so really it was just a matter of waiting for something bad to happen to him, and the bad indeed happened (quite gruesomely), but I really liked the buildup to it, the developing relationship between Harold and Sozon was really well done, I like how they positively affected each other in great ways, they were arguably a better duo, as much as I like Echika and Harold lol. But yeah, the inevitable happened, really upsetting stuff but I really liked the scene, really nice horror vibes. Biggest downside is that this could have been avoided had either Sozon or Harold went in there with backup like someone else mentioned, but this is a dramatic mystery show so we can’t have that sometimes lol. That aside, I’m happy to say I’m excited for the next episode, if the arc coming up can hold a candle to this episode then we might be in for a good time near the end of the show. |

Marinate1016 said: So they’re actually doing something right for once with the adaptation, fairs Yeah, it was really surprising, but moving the flashback here actually works very well because we've barely ever heard of St Petersburg Nightmare incident before. Hopefully they'll do volume 4 right and finish on a strong note at least. Honestly, if they really had to cut a volume to get to 4, they should've cut volume 3 and the E arc. It would've been much better than skipping the beginning. |

Holy fucking shit, that was so uncomfortable. As much as it sucked for Sozon, that was definitely the best episode so far of the show. Honestly, I thought Harold was always made to be a detective, but I think I just wasn't paying attention enough, so I didn't expect to see Harold be homeless and trafficked. I really liked Sozon and now we also know how Harold got to know Darya and why he cares a lot about her. But fucking hell, I had a feeling Harold was going to stumble upon Sozon all chopped up, but it was so much worse, oh, it was so much worse. I can't believe they actually showed him getting mutilated in real time, Jesus Christ. |

@Tithain actually yeahhhhh... anybody with police experience or military experience with approaching suspicious locations or breaching/clearing buildings is going to think Sozon and Harold were very stupid and unrealistic. so far (at least to me) this show has been pretty close to US TV averages as to its accuracy for a police procedural. so for THIS highly important incident in Harold's backstory... these events make ZERO sense. if the LN author wanted to 'trap' both Harold and Sozon 'together' for Sozon's death...WHY NOT send BOTH of them into this situation TOGETHER? backing eachother up. did the LN author not want a repeat of Harold being helpless while Echika gets 'bonked' on the noggin by Aiden Furman and kidnapped in that house in the English Luddite Compound? because the author... uhhhh... basically DID repeat it... except Harold and Echika DID go into that house together. if you're going to write about cops, ya better be able to IMPRESS or at least SATISFY cops watching your show. |

@Marinate1016 Harold has been living with Darya this whole time. he and Echika and other characters have mentioned how much Sozon's widow relies on Harold, leans on him for support, he calls her back periodically in the show when he misses her calls, basically... Harold has taken Sozon's place in Darya's life... Echika has even mentioned to Harold more than once in kinda-sorta subtle ways that she thinks Harold is a crutch and hinderance to Darya's recovery from her husband's death and perhaps Harold is being a co-dependent enabler of Darya's trauma and helplessness. |

well after 8 episodes we finally got something really good but what the fuck this was far more brutal than anything they've done hits even more knowing Harold is far more human than anyone knows poor Sozon and Darya...even after everything she ended up getting attacked in the first episode thankfully she is currently doing well but geez.. this will end with Harold killing this serial killer or being stopped trying to do agree with anytime he acts on his own while still thinking hes under the rule of respect drives me nuts this could've ended up far better had he called for backup |

@Tithain mmmkayyy... if you say there is more to the story.... i'll be there anyways, so i'll see it. also, i know except for Police in a Box... anime hasn't got that decent of a record being anywhere near accurate with police procedurals. that one, is ONLY because the source author WAS a lady Japanese cop for many many many years. Doctor Detective what's her face from... last? season... was a crap show in that regard, the policework parts of it were... nowhere near right. i don't remember a single episode where they got anything right from the law enforcement perspective, even the mystery/detective parts of it were... barely vaguely supportable with what was on-screen... and more than once i saw obviously even to a slightly experienced and educated layman like myself... medical errors just impossible to miss. about the only part to Doctor Detective i really really really enjoyed was Cosplay Columbo the police detective. whomever designed him and coached his JVA... knew what they were doing when imitating Peter Falk's work. |
