I know some people were disappointed by ending and some people were loving it. IMO opinion this ending is perfect but not written correctly. And some important moments were rushed. But on the release of volume 34 additional pages will be added, So it can give more pages and explanation for the rushed parts. Regardless of the ending in my opinion I think AOT is a masterpiece. It had done so many incredible things right not any other anime have done. Incredible soundtrack, engaging storyline, Amazing worldbuilding with mysteries, unforgettable characters, consistent banger animation - AOT had all of these. So what you guys think? Answer with honest thoughts and don't hurt other people. And by the way consider this also, Hajime Isayama is working closely with the animation team , so anime ending can feel way better than Manga ending and it can get more explanation than manga.

If you take everything into consideration such as : story, character development, Animation, VA's. OST, quality of animation etc etc, even tho you might find animes who excel in on or in the other department, AOT is overall the best anime that has come from the industry until now

Steins gate requires 11 episode to be immensely interesting, season 2 is nowhere near close to the epicness of the first.

HxH is on hiatus for eternity and its super good but the thematic doesn't come close to aot.

Death Note is epic when you are a newcomer in the anime and also a bit edgy, but still a masterpiece .

FMAB is ok. Nothing special about it, jack of all trades master of none.

And Code geass was ok, until Lelouch goes and tells her that he can control her if he wants and his geass was activated, that was a cheap way to stretch the story. And ofc Lelouch's solution looks awesome when you are a 16 years old and believe in idealism. In reality the problems among people cannot simply vanish just because one guy died. Lelouch dies and the whole world is happy and sunshine? It doesn't work like that. How it works in reality is similar to what happened in AOT.

And stop using lmao in the end, it doesn't validate your opinion more.

i think it became a modern classic around season 3, and it’ll undoubtedly go down as one. i went thru stages of loving and hating the ending, but on first read i loved it and i know i would’ve loved it too if i saw it in the anime first so i’m trying not to be too critical. it was consistent to eren’s character and anyone who said his character was assassinated didn’t pay attention to his complexity.

i think it’s a masterpiece too, and it’s as popular as it is for a reason. it’ll always be my favourite series - not just in anime, but overall :’))) i think the anime ending will reword things a little, and yuki kaji and the other va’s will give life to the characters and most likely say certain lines differently than we have said them in our head (if that makes sense hahha!!) so that will probably improve the ending further.

also, about the additional pages... i’m not sure if they’re going to be additional chapter pages, are they? it seems to me like the story is done now and that the additional pages will probably just be extra illustrations or something like that. do you know anything more about this? thankyou :)

I think the additional pages will be actual pages in the story...cz if they're just illustrations They wouldn't announce it...bcz every volume release will have illustrations....and to be clear I'm not sure either...but after Tokyo Ghoul mangas final chapter release they added additional ending pages on the volume release for a proper ending...so anything could happen

i hope so!! i assumed they just announced it as vaguely as they did in order to encourage ppl to buy volume 34 despite already knowing the ending loool. but then again, it may be additional pages that isayama couldn’t include bcos he’d already wrote more than usual for 139. i guess we’ll have to wait and see. thankyou tho! :)))

I don’t have anything against the ending other than the fact there were too many plot holes. And Ymir’s feelings towards Fritz make absolutely 0 sense. Other than that the ending was just a remastered version of the ending of Code Geass, which nowadays feels a bit cliche. The ending for me is a 6/10 not bad but not good either. It felt like Isayama just didn’t give a damn about the readers and ended it randomly.

All things considered, yes. The story is very compelling , regardless of the fact if you like or hate the ending. Anime-wise, it’s one of the best overall - animation, music, direction, voice acting, pacing. Season 1 is the weakest out of all but it was still on a very good level - everything from 2x01 onwards is brilliant.

In my opinion AoT as a whole is not a masterpiece certain seasons of AoT yes are a masterpiece like season 3 but as a whole its like an 8/10. That being said AoT I feel will most definitely be a classic the only problem is how the anime only community with take the ending.

AOT anime is great but overall it's not out right the best, you can call it one of the best sure. There are better seasons than others but overall it's an 8.5/10 depending on how the anime handles the ending could go down or up. If you look at the show objectively there are short comings lik with most if not all anime so it's not perfect.

I don't think he meant it was perfect or the best. Honestly I don't care about people liking aot or not but an anime being a classic doesn't mean you have to like it or it has to be one of the best. It just means it's unique from most of the other anime. Whether you like it's unique features or not that's totally your opinion but it's still unique in it's own way. And that's what makes it a classic

Whether you think it deserves it or not, the popularity of AOT is enough to make it a classic. The amount of people who think it deserves to be a classic is enough to make it a classic.

My definition of "classic" would be an anime that shapes the industry, and has an insane amount of popularity.

That being said, AOT is easily a classic. I'll keep my word unless it gets forgotten about in the next 10 years. But if AOT is remembered as the 2010's anime, then yep, its a classic.
I gave up on character of the week since it takes too much thinking. I'll just change my forum pfp to whoever I want every week lol.

Just from seeing the number of people loving it and rating it really high, as well as exploring interesting concepts with some well-done characters, I would say it could go down as a classic. I think it fits the criteria really well and seems to be a top favourite for a lot of people!

It’s not about you you start a story, it’s about how it ENDS. Therefore no it is not a masterpiece and it will not go down in history, might be historically fucked for dropping the ball on the last 3 chapter

the destination is as important as the journey, i'll even say the destination is more important. Your journey won't have any meaning if the destination has retconed most of it. A great journey is the one you can repeat over and over, but with a very bad ending you can't no more find rexperiencing the story any worth because you know it leads to nothing good, you can't even enjoy your best moments the same way because you know they exist for nothing.

SPOILER :

THE ENDING AND WHAT IT ACHIEVED :

1. Titan curse removed.

2. Eren saved as many of his friends as he could (his main goal).

3. Eren wiped out 80% of the world populatin. The rest 20% after a cataclysmic event that has destroyed or nearly the eceosystem will have to deal with famine, no shelter, insane amount of diseases mainly from the insane amount of corpses human or animal. Also they don't have land to farm, or the necessery infrastructure to create a military, etc etc. Basically the majority of the world is in the condition that Japan was after the hiroshima nagasaki event. Only the scale right now is out of proportions. In other words more people will die after the rumbling is done. Meanwhile Paradis has land to farm, infrastructure, is a military superpower, has the hizuru scientists and resources such as Iceburst stone. So basically all that Paradis needs to do is to have nuclear weapons which would act as a deterrent against any upcoming thread.

4. Potentially Eren achieved Freedom for his people. If he would have done 100% of the Rumbling then eventually war between the eldians of Paradis would have broken out.As we saw there were already 2 fractions which were against each other. Now, at 80% Rumbling the eldians of Paradis have to be united against the thread of what it is left from the world but at the same time, there exists the possibility of them being free to visit and roam the planet through talks and truces.

5. The yeager fraction, which is directly inspired and created under him, are the main driving force of Paradis.

I think Eren had a bit of an impact, would you say?

Sometimes destination will be meh but journey to get there might be amazing...most of the time it's like that...same goes for AOT , the journey is incredible ,throughout the journey you'll understand it's gonna have sad and unsatisfying ending ....Isayama also stated that....AOT story is more than the destination...I can't explain it right now but there some videos and articles written about that.... this ending is not a good or bad ending its a fitting ending and it's forshadowed from the episode 1

You must really be a devoted hater if you think any of the ones you mentioned has a better animation than AoT. If you think of AoT solely as an artwork, it is definitely better than any of the ones you have mentioned. The manga art is probably not as good, that's a fact, but the story is up there and at the level of the ones you mentioned or better.

While I agree with you that the ending will have a major role in determining whether it'll be a classic or not, I still think that the 4 first seasons are popular enough for it to still be considered a classic. Many people got into anime by watching AoT, and even the ones who are not into anime, still watch AoT.

Steins;gate is really good but it doesn't go nearly as deep into its ideas compared to AOT plus the first few episodes were pretty rough and the only good characters were okabe and makise kurisu, Hunter x hunter is better but not only is it probably not going to end but it doesn't even feel like its much further than a half way point people give AOT shit for it's bad ending but are totally cool with stuff like HxH and Vagabond ending mid arc because the author got bored, Monster is a masterpiece I wont argue with that one even though I will say that the pacing could be better and AOT is more entertaining even if it's admittedly less well written, Death note is great but Light is pretty 1 dimensional compared to Eren and the show gets much weaker after episode 25, Code Geass is great but good lord it gets awful in the second half if the last 6 or 7 episodes didn't happen code geass season 2 would have been regarded as one of the worst sequel seasons ever, for FMA I'm not sure if you mean brotherhood or 2003 if you mean brotherhood then I disagree because they handle their political themes less well and in general the direction is just less good, if you mean 2003 I agree however it did get pretty rough in the second half. Basically I like most of the shows you mentioned more than AOT however not by much and they all have their own issues, basically what I'm saying is not one of them is so much better than aot it isn't even worth arguing about.

Lol it too early too make any conclusions without season 4 part 2 animated. Only time will tell if enough people liked the ending to be called classic. GoT matched or even better AoT in terms of popularity but nobody calling it a classic because how the ending turn the whole series into a meme.

While I agree with you that the ending will have a major role in determining whether it'll be a classic or not, I still think that the 4 first seasons are popular enough for it to still be considered a classic. Many people got into anime by watching AoT, and even the ones who are not into anime, still watch AoT.

I’m just referencing a similar case of GoT. The first six season broke records in TV shows and award history let alone being in a minor genre of fantasy at the time. It’s popularity was enough to make it a household name where you don’t even need to be on the internet to know of it. Now with the infamous S8 being out a couple of years I haven’t really seen anyone calling it a classic.

the destination is as important as the journey, i'll even say the destination is more important.
Sometimes destination will be meh but journey to get there might be amazing...most of the time it's like that...same goes for AOT , the journey is incredible ,throughout the journey you'll understand it's gonna have sad and unsatisfying ending ....Isayama also stated that....AOT story is more than the destination...I can't explain it right now but there some videos and articles written about that.... this ending is not a good or bad ending its a fitting ending and it's forshadowed from the episode 1
for aot the destination wasn't meh, it was the worst that could ever happen and it made everything before meaningless. I wish it was just meh. Naruto's end is meh but it didn't retcon the journey. Most of anime have meh to fine endings but the important thing is not to assassinate and destroy what you've done before, just give me a fine ending that is not satisfying but don't fuck everything up.

Yes in terms of popularity however GOT was a poor adaptation from season 4, they already ruined Tyrion's character arc from the books, then season 5 ruined the dorne plotline, and pretty much all the good writing was gone season 6 and onward, everyone was calling aot a masterpiece until chapter 139, so it's not half the story that was underwhelming rather it was 1% of it( yes I know the ending is important).

I personally think part 1 of AoT is 10/10 (till S3 ) and after that it's 8.5/10 because they don't have any mystery to solve or question to be answered but the ending tho , ending is probably the worst thing happened to AoT , Isayama introduced an alien creature and killed that of screen . And yeah AoT does not have very good character except (Eren , Armin , levi , riner) like I don't give a shit about Sasha ,Connie , John , Bertold( I was happy when he was eaten).

If you take everything into consideration such as : story, character development, Animation, VA's. OST, quality of animation etc etc, even tho you might find animes who excel in on or in the other department, AOT is overall the best anime that has come from the industry until now

I don't think being the best as a jack of all trades makes your series the best of all time, a story with a great story and no action can be much better than one with a good story and good action, also even tho AOT fits this "jack of all trades" description you still have stuff like Fate/zero with better writing and better looking action scenes. I do love AOT though.

Unless you're a source reader most viewers were content till the end of S6. I personally liked S6 the most as ties everything together and the bastardbawl was peak filmography. I have heard they ruin dorne plotline but tbh I really didn't care about them in the first place other then fighting for Tyrion. As for AoT the whole rumbling arc got numerous complaints it's just that 139 was controversial enough to outdid and overshadowed all of those before.

I agree the direction and cinematophraphy made up for the decrease in quality in the writing for a while however the point is that AOT only got a bad towards the end while the GOT show actually ruined pretty much every character

I think he was talking about the anime itself not the animation. I don't think anyone would say "Steins;gate and deathnote have better animation than AOT" with a straight face.

Also just saying Steins;gate and Code geass aren't based on manga's.
I gave up on character of the week since it takes too much thinking. I'll just change my forum pfp to whoever I want every week lol.
