Ashita no joe is the saddest anime I've ever seen. Not something I expected from a boxing show with a protagonist with a stupid haircut.

They do not exist. I go about my art viewing sessions with a predisposition that there will be at least something decent to the series. If just one moment, one glimpse of grandeur of the authors and their ideas, it would be enough for me to shed a tear. As such it is rather disheartening... when I cannot bestow my tears upon the work of art.

Not an Anime (even though there are quite a few)
The Manhwa Bastard, didn't expect that cause it's a horror/thriller

Definitely worth a read, not too long

I didn't expect Dr. Stone to punch me in the nose as hard as it did. It hit me twice. Once when they listen to Senku's message from his dad and again when old man Kaseki realises that Senku and Chrome are his friends. The former hit because it was hearthwarming how much Senku's dad believed in him and the latter because despite the age difference, Chrome and Senku never seemed to even second guess the friendship.

First episode of Fruit Basket(2019) was unexpected too. The situation with her mom and how she forgot to say the one thing they always say to each other. That hit me personally and destroyed me.

Zombieland saga was actually a pretty emotional and meaningful show despite how outwardly comedic it seemed.

I hated Assassination Classroom when I first started watching it, it was so generic and annoying through the first couple episodes.

However, the more episodes I watched the more I started to get attached and relate to the characters. For context, this was in my final year of school so the show sort of hit home in some absurd way.

Long story short, by the end of the last two episodes I was sobbing like a baby, when I think about it now it was really irrational since I don't even think it was that sad. But out of every anime I have ever seen (Your Lie in April and Angel Beats included) this made me cry the most.

Vinland Saga, if you've seen it you know what happens in the 4th episode. I didn't cry but that was a sorrowful moment.

Fullmetal alchemist scene 'Ed finding of Al's body and promising him of coming back to get him'.

I think Inou-Battle wa Nichijou-kei no Naka de is a disgrace of a show and I never expected to feel anything for it, but I was moved to tears by Hatoko's outburst and I still can't watch that scene without getting teary eyes.
Man, what a terrific voice acting performance.

I don't cry because of anime but Steins;Gate and Steins;Gate 0 hits different. Even out of all the tear jerkers, I find steins;gate to be the saddest anime.
Another one is Cowboy Bebop. Faye Valentine's backstory damn bro

Assassination Classroom I knew I was gonna be sad, but god damn. I really should've had an extra box of tissues. A Silent Voice was a really pleasant surprises that I'm glad made me feel super sad and teary-eyed and I was totally not expecting. Lastly, Steins;Gate and S;G0 was a rollercoaster of emotions and even more so cause I watched them back to back. I'm glad that I didn't go the 'chronological order' because that would've killed me

On the flip side, I didn't feel sad or cry at shows that I was expecting to. Shows like Re:Zero, Your Name and Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood are all shows that people were hyping up to be really sad, but I didn't really feel the same way they did

Cautious Hero. At first it was more of like a generic isekai, the 'I was summoned because I needed to defeat some final boss' type with some comedy. but the final 2 episodes made me cry twice at 1 in the morning. The reason why I didn't expect that twist was probably because I am still new to anime, but eh, you be the judge

I cried to the first season of Top wo Nerae!. The idea to go back home where everyone you know is already dead was so lonely and that was just beaultiful. It's an unique beauty, the space's mysteryness.

Charlotte - First 10 episodes were ok although something sad happened. The last episode was very tear-jerking considering that my emotion was flat for the first 10 episodes.

Amaama to Inazuma - I thought the premise of the anime was cooking so i didn't expect to cry. I also didn't expect to cry EVERY episode after the 2nd.

GJ-bu - Last Episode and part 2 of the OVA...

I can't remember which episode number is it(10 or 11) but that one episode of Musaigen Phantom World made me teared up.

I mean that anime is basically not design at all as a tearjerkers. So for an ecchi/harem show, that was a pleasant surprise to me.

Oh yeah, Musaigen did made me tear a bit too. That final scene with the bunny family was tear-jerking already and Reina had to end it with something like "I hope i see them again". That was a sharp pain in the heart for me.

Can relate to that. That was just painful to watch. Though I've never cried when watching an anime... But I can feel my heart break or having some kind of sting like someone would stick a needle in it. Though it might just be a minor heart attack. I don't know, I'm not a doctor.
Today, I may be a weak little bug that gets tossed in the wind,
washed away by the currents, and drowns, but tomorrow,
I may become the butterfly that spreads its colossal wings and flies the open skies!
