Still can't speak, write or read it, but I am slowly beginning to understand it. And some Japanese words sound English. Amazing. :) So is it helping you learn Japanese? Even if you are only understanding a little here and there? |

| It helps for the pronunciation and i'm starting to learn some new words from animes after ~4 months of Japanese lessons but you can't learn japanese just from animes. |
| Yes it helps to increase your vocabulary quite a lot. I can watch raws pretty easily just from watching anime for a long time and self-stuying some grammar. |

| I managed to convince my cousin to watch Detective Conan and there was this one moment where I heard a couple lines (Japanese), and without seeing the screen, I knew what episode/case it was xD But yeah, definitely. I like saying "mitsuketa" on occasion. |

| All I remember off the top of my head: - bakemono = monster - baka = dumbass, idiot - sekai = world - sekaiichi = world's greatest/finest - yuuutsu = despair, gloom, melancholy - doshi de = why? - nan de (?) = what/how? that's all I remember, but if you're actually trying to learn japanese it's probably a great medium (along with doing studying outside of it) |

| You actually can learn a foreign language but it happens to children at a very young age ( early groundschool or during kindergarden) At a later age it's rather hard to learn it just by watching jap. dubbed stuff a lot. |

I can't read Moon Runes to save my life but I know almost as much Japanese speech as a toddler. Th-thanks anime! Then again, I know more dirty words than your average toddler. | It depends on how much you rely on the subtitles. It can be extremely effective if you watch anime raw and study Japanese at the same time. |

That also is probably partially because you were able to see the scene and therefore understand that their actions correlated to certain words you heard a lot. |

| I know someone who has watched +3000 anime, rewatched some of them (Black Lagoon, Dragon Ball, FMAb, Cowboy Bebop, ...) *many* times, and he was used to be in a fansub team (english to french) five years ago. Now he can understand ~50% japanese ! Only understand though, he can't talk it. |

I've become familiar enough through the sheer volume of stuff I watch that if I can read a subtitle fast enough I MIGHT be able to pick out a few words from that subtitle that I've heard over and over as they're said, but on the whole it would take me much more to actually learn the language. |
