I usually try to rein in my imagination and almost forget this show is a fantasy, until moments like, hmmm idk, people from alternate universes show up and remind me that, yep, it’s definitely a fantasy through and through. Anyways, like always in this show, the problem got solved just by talking it out, basically Sakuta being Sakuta and in this case, “winning” the little game they had going on, allowing the alternate universe Ikumi to return by to her original universe.

I know it’s the usual Sakuta thing to help out the waifus, but this time here I actually felt something kind of like back in season one for whatever reason. The last arc got a bit too Disney-like at the end, so it was nice that this one went a little whacky instead, truly felt like the AoButa I loved back in season one. I mean, seriously, Ikumi took that whole “feeling invincible” thing we’ve all felt at some point way too literally, like she was literally invincible xD

Anyways, like I said, was a nice ending to the arc. We also got another hint about Touko at the end, so it feels like we’re slowly heading toward the endgame.

When searching for “#dreaming” on social media, numerous posts appeared, many describing dreams about “attending a middle school reunion on November 27.” Ikumi also had a dream about the day of the reunion, but hers was about her causing an assault and being caught by the police. Sakuta invited Ikumi out to Minegahara High School and told her about the many uneasy feelings he had had toward her so far. On the way back, in front of a railroad crossing, Ikumi suddenly said goodbye to Sakuta and then…

Making a scene in front of their old classmates seemed to me that was not something the main wanted but it worked out like that.
Well if it wasn't for that the main would probably have never encountered his old classmates again and it didn't seem like he cared either.
With people like that it's just not worth your time let them think what they want to.
There are other things in the world to worry about.

Well crunchyroll never put the episode up, but finally was able to watch it. One of my fave aobuta episodes so far. Akagi’s arc was awesome and she’s such a loveable character. I wanna give her the biggest hug ever for suffering in silence for so long.

“I found you Akagi” and then the disappearance as the train comes?? Don’t give me Anohana flashbacks please!

Yamane Aya did such a good job voicing her, I just love that more realistic subdued style of talking they went with for her. Made the classroom scene/parallel world reveal hit so much harder. Also, the class reunion scene was brilliant as well. The way Sakuta took the spotlight/pressure off her by acting like a dick and bragging about Mai was really sweet. Comes as no surprise why all these girls keep falling for him lol. Whether or not the other students believe in puberty syndrome or not, doesn’t matter. Akagi got the weight off her shoulders and that’s all that matters.

She can finally start moving forward, letting the past be the past and being optimistic for what’s to come. Really like the pep talk Sakuta gave her!

That ending tho! Mai’s in danger? From who/what? You can’t leave me on a cliffhanger like that. Also, can we get an aobuta vn with multiple routes for the girls like Oregairu? Please and thanks lol

That's Akagi's arc done.

Damn, I really liked this arc. All this #DREAMING stuff really made it interesting and the siting of Knapsack made me surprised both times actually. Sakuta making a scene infront of his old classmates was something I didn't expect, but to be honest, when it comes to people like them, theres not really a point in talking to them. When they already have an opinion, they're going to stick with it. Touko arc next, should be interesting.

It was a good arc, 4 episodes.

I was surprised that we were watching the Ikumi of the other world and not the Ikumi of this world.

So both Ikumi were happy that they were both in their non-world

Again, this arc would have been way better off in season 01/movies, when Sakuta was in high school, and not now almost 4 years later since he graduated middle school. I mean, who attends a middle school reunion four years after graduating middle school? Its only high school that has many reunions years after graduating.

And its good to see the high school once again, even if empty

And really??? Mai is in danger again? And let me guess = if shes in danger, Sakuta will be the one to save her.

And if Mai is in danger, then tell us how is she in danger!!!!!!!

And I dont know why Sakuta decided to act a bit too extra at the reunion in the end. I would have preferred if he simply said that he has moved on with his life and that he doesnt hold any grudges with anyone anymore, and also saying that he is dating Mai.

Also, it was really subtle because the studio/production team is barely making effort to attention to detail in this new season = With the little-Mai that appeared in this episode 07 at the end on the train-tracks, not only was she wearing a different outfit, but she also looked slightly older than the little-Mai that we have seen in the previous movies and episode 04 of this new season.

But again, it was a nice arc, since it kept itself mature and it had connections with movie-3 and Sakuta's past. This arc should have been the first arc in this new season and no Uzuki arc

And now that I think about it, we rarely/never saw both Sara and Miori in this Ikumi arc; they just disappeared.

And sadly, the next arc is Sara's arc (the high school first year student), that should be meh, especially after this Ikumi arc. We the audience dont want to follow a first year high school student around, especially one who doesnt have a connection to the male MC or anyone from season 01-movies. I mean, if youre gonna have a high school girl that needs saving, then it would have been better if that girl was the best friend of Kaede (the glasses girl) and not this Sara girl.

And by looking at the preview of the next episode 08, it looks like Santa girl will appear but in normal clothes and not with her Santa outfit.

Azusagawa was like "f**k you all ! Who needs your sorry when I'm dating Sakurajima Mai.",haha
And he's right though..
Both the Akagis' wanted the exact opposite thing and got moved to different worlds and they were able to come to terms with themselves.❤️❤️
But they didn't want to end the ep on a happy note and make us worry by saying that Mai is in danger again... 😭😭

Okay, this episode was wild! Definitely a throwback to the style of Season 1, the first arc earlier felt like it wrapped up too neatly and didn’t have much of an overarching effect. At least with that drop in the end, we know for certain this arc isn’t going to go down as the same.

Not going to lie, when I saw the subs dish out alternate me and alternate world, my head went for a little spin and I’m not even sure now if I truly managed to pick up anything. Might need to give this ep at least a quick rewatch once I wake up but Sakura going off on his mindless middle school classmates was the highlight for sure. They were even trying to justify which to be honest, from a third person’s view, didn’t help improve their impressions at all. Of course it’s a lot deeper than that and Sakura himself realises which is exactly why all that went down too.

Now that I think about it, little Mai-san appearing right after the alter Akagi-san left, is that supposed to be some kind of clue? Touka-chan from the first movie next. It’s been a while since I’ve seen that, lol. Hope I’ll be able to pick up…

@oooo3333 But where’s the fun in that? Just kidding, wouldn’t be much of a suspense if that card was played so that’s probably why it was just conveniently missed, xD.

@_MushiRock11_ "Our" world and the "Other" world. There are two worlds. We are watching the anime from "our" world.

In this arc, we were watching Ikumi from the "other" world, meaning the Ikumu that we were shown in movie-3

On the other hand, the Ikumi that appeared at the party in the end in this episode, she is the Ikumi from "our" world.

At the start of college, both Ikumi's got transported to the other Ikumi's world. So now the Ikumi from the "other" world is a college student in our world, while the Ikumi from "our" world is now living the life of the "Other" Ikumi in the other world.

As for Loli Mai, whenever you see Loli Mai, thats when you know that someone/something from the other world is happening. Loli-Mai is like the person who opens up the doors that connect both "our" world and the "other" world.

Loli-Mai appeared at the end because she took the Ikumi from the "other" world, who was living in "our" world, back to her "other" world. And Loli-Mai also brought back the Ikumi from "our" world, who was living in the "other" world, back to "our" world.

The one thing I wasn't expecting to see was Sakuta going to the class reunion and ends up bragging to all of them about dating Mai. Honestly, I applaud him for doing that! XD

Admittedly, the talk of Akagi swapping with another version of herself from an alternate world did make me do a double take at first, but I do think I caught onto what she was talking about with Sakuta in the end. By the sounds of it, both versions of herself had their respective struggles before swapping places, but thanks to Sakuta's help, at least both Akagis got a resolution to their issue that they could be happy with.

With that settled, we're going straight on and into another issue, with Akagi being the one to give both Sakuta and Mai a worrying message from the Sakuta of the alternate world. Mentioning Touko's name does give me a throwback to the Dreaming girl movie and I know how much of a hectic ride that movie was. It does make me wonder if this next arc will follow that same path.

There'll probably never be another girl for Sakuta more worth bragging about dating than Mai but admittedly, an alternate universe with him and Akagi together sounds like it has insane potential.

And I'm still in awe at this dude's talent for improvising stuff on the fly. That reunion exit was one hell of a performance.

This ended up being slightly confusing, so let me see if I'm understanding it all properly.

World A (current timeline): Sakuta fails to save Kaede and his family moves. Ikumi feels guilty for not being able to help. She goes to a different high school, but later meets him again at university and is shocked that he's moved on while she still hasn't.

World B (Knapsack Kid AU): Sakuta saves Kaede and his family stays. Ikumi develops a crush on him and decides to go to the same high school, but she also forms an inferiority complex because of his accomplishments. This leads to her failing the university exams.

At that moment, both versions ended up swapping into their "ideal" world. Ikumi A arrived in World B where the middle school incident was resolved and she wouldn't have to run into Sakuta at university, while Ikumi B arrived in World A where she could become a hero of justice, having passed the exam and also leading a volunteer group.

That's my thought process anyway, let me know if I'm wrong about anything. I really enjoyed Ikumi's arc overall though, it's definitely a step up from Zukki's in my opinion and makes this season much more exciting.

As for next time, seems Mai's in trouble and it's related to Touko Kirishima again... I'm very curious to see how they're connected. We still haven't got any answers about #dreaming either.

oookaaay? that KINDA explained everything... :/ she was 'flipping' or 'exchanging places' with her middle school self... but the middle schooler took 'her' place in college? she did it more than once to try and 'fix' the past... but our lil Rascal Sakuta kept fixing everything himself due to the influence of multiverse multiple traveler Dreaming Girl Makinohara Shouko. so... what's up with the message from 'over there' on her palms? wasn't the 'exchange window' closed when Sakuta 'found' her at their middle-school reunion?

also, how were the #Dreaming posts about prophetic dreams coming true and such? or were they all just peculiar coincidences? or just vague predictions so easily interpreted that The Barnum Effect works easily?

So idk wtf happened with crunchyroll this week, episode just doesn’t show up on the app and still hasn’t at the time of writing this, good thing we have the seven seas for times like this lol.

But with all that out of the way, I really liked this arc finale, but I don’t think it was perfect. My biggest reason being because why do all these people care so much about what happened in middle school lol, Sakuta is the only one that had a realistic reaction to it in moving on from it, but Akagi let it fester and define her whole life just about, and their old middle school classmates seemed like it was a sensitive topic too, it really is funny to think Sakuta turned out the happiest among them all lol. But I think Sakuta said it best at the end of the episode, he was basically saying life goes on, all you can do is keep living, and I think that’s pretty beautiful honestly, I liked Akagi’s reaction to it. And speaking of Akagi, wow so I was way off the mark on what was doing on with her “poltergeist”, she was pretty much swapping places with her other self and both of them found the other’s world to be more comforting, I thought that was interesting but also a bit of a mind fuck before I put it together lol.

But here in the end I really liked Akagi’s arc, 4 episodes long which I believe is the longest of all the arcs in AoButa so far, I’m glad it was given proper time to breathe, I would put it up there with some of the best AoButa arcs personally. And when it comes to Akagi as a character, I liked her quite a bit, she was very intriguing and of course cute, I do think her fixation on what she couldn’t do back in middle school is a bit weird but what girl isn’t weird in AoButa lol. But damn that cliffhanger at the end tho, so this next arc might be involving Mai again? I’m sure a lot of folks are happy about that.

@Sheol01 No, you pay premium so the shareholders get more value out of their investment. Worst thing is that that CR doesn't even have the courtesy of putting up somekind of disclaimer or explanation. A simple "The episode will be delayed for 24 hours due to illness. We apologize for the inconvenience would be enough." But nope.

I had to sail to see the episode. Good one too, closer in feeling to S1 than the previous arc which was meh at best. Nice closure and thank the heavens for the explanation because I was a bit lost.

Would surely like to know more about how the other azusagawa met mai and knows her. As, stated he was successful in solving the problem with her sister, which implies that many of his actions would have been different or perhaps I'm wrong. Maybe, he still manages to meet mai in the library and goes on to solve the problem with her as well, in nearly the same way as our azusagawa. In any case, ts peak asf.

Ya know does this season really need to exist? All the character drama/relationship stuff surrounding Sakuta and his family/friends have been resolved with the 3 movies. The first arc here was about a minor character who has very little to do with Sakuta and puberty even less so. The second arc is related to Sakuta's past, but as they aptly pointed out, it's very old news and Sakuta and his sister have completely moved past it. But Akagi who was only tangentially related to the issue struggled so much her whole life? Come on girl it had nothing to do with you. And now they've turned puberty syndrome from a fun, supernatural way to dramatize coming of age type of struggles into a final boss santa clause who hands them out like presents? Come on man, it used to be personal. Now it's a cheesy villain.

@ProofByColor I agree with you, also the fact that the gap between seasons, covid and all that has really killed the series for me. Now we're dealing with adults who are still on puberty.

I really loved the end of the arc it was good, 4 eps all of them were good tbh

Emotions were earing this ep sm, like seeing how she was handling azusagawa's problem in middle school and blaming herself bcs she can't do anything that's top 5 real things happens in the world and I always say don't blame urself on something u can't do anything abt

And we discover that akagi was from another universe like they got switched and both akagis loved the universe they got switched into I think, and I see it understandable, like the akagi from the universe we know knows that the universe she got into have no more of azusagawa's problems bcs he handled it well and the akagi from the other universe loved bcs she got to the university she wanted and she did what she loved ( helping ppl )

5 / 5 ep for loved that arc tbh
