| Why of all episodes was this the one Tomino requested not be dubbed? This episode was quite good; it was the most emotionally moving episode so far. It does still have problems. Specifically: 1. They never really explained why those two soldiers were tied up in their plane, rather than just being killed once they reached the island. 2. After the kids started throwing shit at him, Amuro seemingly forgot about that one soldier who was still alive. 3. Amuro throwing Doan's Zaku into the sea was an incredibly stupid thing to do. By "scent of battle", I can only assume Amuro meant that the reason they've been repeatedly attacked is that they have the Zaku. However, this is very unclear, so it effectively looks like Amuro just destroyed their only means of protecting themselves from attacks. |

| Yeah I agree with your points. So odd that these details are left hanging. If Zeon was going after Doan because it wanted to retrieve the Zaku though, that could tie up one of these loose ends. But the soldier who survived, and why Doan tied them up in the first place, are still elements that feel really out of place given how the episode ended. We never revisit the original story thread that led the crew to check out the island in the first place! I guess the only way to wrap that up is to assume the older soldier died shortly after Amuro put him on the ground. |
