The expectations generated in the penultimate episode were thrown down the drain in this last and forgettable episode. For those who have seen all the Gundam series in the UC universe like me, this Gundam is a 5/10 with a lot, but a lot of effort. Was the animation fluid? Yes, the references to Evangelion more vivid than ever, Evangelion is my favorite anime, I watched it before seeing Gundam, but for a Gundam fan, Amuro Rey's participation was fundamental, a final fight between them and Char? That would lead to Lalah's awakening, and thus interrupt the fight to the death between them, would be an epic and beautiful ending. Well, sorry, but screw this watered-down romance between Machu and Shuuji, in fact this character and nothing was the same. The story of him wanting to help Lalah by killing Char, what the hell is that? And Nyaan was completely scanned, that love/devotion for Shuuji completely disappeared. As a Gundam series that is part of the UC line, this Gundam will not be missed.

Garbage ending. Show was extremely rushed and needed a second season to wrap things up. We also don’t get to see Amuro Ray even though the RX Gundam made an appearance. Also no Sayla Mass? Even though the whole nostalgiabaiting was for Char fans???

@OgregO Agree on Amuro, problem seems to be, that Furuya was cancelled it seems like...Or something else...

I hated it when it came out, and i still don't like it - mech design sucks, new characters designs sucks and how they use 3d is also sucks but what i needed was this last episode - a new beginning for "old" characters, this whole newtype fuckery got to a whole next level but it was still really hopefull for a change and i kinda liked it, seeing Char and Lala was really emotional, even it was for a few seconds. I'll give it 7/10, since i'm a sucker for such stuff, since we never saw a happy endings in UC timeline.

  • It was like 1stGundam + Eva + SteinsGate.
  • I never thought Lizard had been inserted in the show again.

What a piece of shit, garbage ass show.
Clearly he wanted to make another Evangelion, felt more like an insult to 0079 than a love letter if you ask me.

Who was this even made for??? To attract young fans to Gundam?? But the narrative is wholly reliant on the OG series?
Unlikable leads, stupid story beats. Couldn’t even bother to flesh out one single relationship to at least make a somewhat of an emotional ending.

What a waste of money, apparently the studio struggled to make this due to lack of funding and staff. Maybe try to make a good modern Gundam series for once? All the recent projects have been so bad.

@OgregO The jist of it is that he cheated on his wife with a fan 37 years younger than him, hit said fan and also pressured her to get an abortion when he discovered she was pregnant with his kid. Though I don't think that ended up having much bearing on this work given he still shows up for a few voice lines (he provided the voice of the GQuuuuuuX)

@deltahalo241 Oh my god! What an absurd thing this whole situation, and in the face of all this he was still kept in the project.

All in all that was some bad fanfiction. These Eva writers are terrible. Still had some fun watching it just for the spectacle of it but that's it.

@Jimgus Yea, it actually amazes me how bad it was for how stacked the crew was. It wasnt just Eva people. I think it might have actually been pretty good fan fiction if it just focused on the UC alt-timeline and didnt have the pokemon art style(as another user above perfectly described it) for half the characters, it was like two different anime forced to share the same 12 episodes. Really a shame, I kind of knew from the beginning though with the main three characters(machu, nyann, and shuji)…. Just not great characters and definitely not very suited for a show that relies on UC nostalgia. I saw people say Anno only even worked on the UC stuff, so I dont see why it wasnt all that if it was what he was actually interested in.

@Fintan I was expecting anime to be childish based on pokemon character designer...I'm amazed. This person. Absolutely marvelous character designer, i cannot express it enough. Compared to Fire Emblem toothpaste MC's(artist which i like alot), they're hundreds times better.

@notense its not that they’re necessarily bad, I like plenty of anime that have similar style. Its that they are so different from the UC characters that are also included in the show, it looks like two different anime.

@Fintan I liked the art style a lot and found the first part of the show entertaining but as soon as they left side 6 it fell off of a cliff and felt more like a summary of events than a proper story. I thought there was a lot of potential and appeal to the characters' situations and personalities but they did not go anywhere with them. I would have liked to know more about Nyaan's history as a refuge and what specifically about it made her so insecure, I would have liked more exploration into Machu's naive rebellious phase, and of course I would have liked to see Shuji interact with the other characters more and express himself more in side 6. Instead we got constant nostalgia pandering. Once or twice would have been fine but it was every episode multiple times each with these surface level references and scenes lifted from older Gundam and other mecha shows.

@Jimgus exactly it was basically two different shows crammed into one. Id have taken either one separately, but we got what we got.

Boring uninspired slop. Which is no wonder since they tried to graft a modern piece onto the classic universe and it just doesn't work, the piece is completely alien to the the rest of the system. The last entertaining Gundam was IBO even if I prefer to pretend that its second season doesn't exist (because entertaining doesn't always equal good). I wish they'd spent the time they'd wasted on this GQux on coming up with a new entertaining alternative universe instead.

I haven't watched enough gundam (heck my first one is G-Witch) so I don't know how nonsensical this one is compared to other entries, but in my opinion it's ridiculous. I see some people who do watch other entries are also at a loss on what's actually going on here.

Is this the same thing as the other two spider men showing up in no way home?

I like the animation and color design though.

@Yuu_Kanzaki It's required to watch 0079 and CCA, otherwise you won't feel anything about the ending. MachuNyan stuff kinda ok for newcomers, but it also requires you to be a fan of Gainax, which is basically hardcore otaku...

@notense Gundam is just so massive of a franchise I don't dare step my foot in. Then again, I was never a big fan of mecha (I love transformers though) so I definitely won't be checking those out.

Thanks for the reply though, appreciate it.

wow.... everything they could turn lame the did, it just got worse and worse every episode, the coolest part of this series was Zeon winning the war and they didn't do shit with it.
The Clan Battles were filler. Shuji, Nyaan and Machu never got the chance to develop into decent characters, i didn't get attached to any of them. None of the "revelations" had any impact, i didn't care who romances who.
The ending was just nuts.

Charia Bull carried the entire show

So now that we know Quux wont be continued and this may go the way of other AUs like G or Wing. Generally speaking I remain on the same opinion that Quux is a below average 4/10, cool visuals and music but the rest was subpar or worse.

The thing that makes this not as much of an issue is that we know Hathaway's second film is releasing Winter of 2025 (In other words likely in January) and Urdr Hunt's anime taking as long as it has due to lenght and scope of the project. So despite this ending up as a dud, we have things to look forward to.

I find hilarious that this show baited us to believe is an alternate timeline from the OG Show but in reality is an alternate timeline from another ALTERNATE Timeline!

That wasn´t even OG Lalah jajaja

I rated the show as a 7/10 because it was a good junk food show BUT I can totally see how someone can get angry due to the waste of plots used for the story (Zeon winning, Char taking the Gundam)

They should have focus on the Clan Battles all 12 episodes to then BANG! pull the rug down from us and show it was a political plot all along! And then maybe solve the whole story in another season. Only 12 episodes was too little for the whole thing

I found most of the first half decently enjoyable but this seriously needed at least twice as many episodes to flesh everything out, and half of this shit imo wasn't even worth it. Why sell this as a "What if" show where Zeon wins the war only to try and cram in underground mecha fights and newtype multiverse reality-bending BS within the span of 12 episodes? Only maybe 3 characters were actually developed enough to be enjoyable and I could hardly keep track of the plot toward the end with how fast everything moved and how much they kept namedropping stuff with no explanation. Pacing toward the beginning was alright and the politics/civil war angle was decently interesting but they just lost me with the last couple episodes. Just a hot mess of random allegiance switches and multiverse nonsense and uuuuugh

Animation and fights were great etc etc but they can't carry a show IMO. Same goes for nods to the original UC, they were definitely cool but felt more like fanservice with little thought behind them and probably won't make any sense to anyone who hasn't seen 100+ episodes of original Gundam material.

Also shoutout to Sayla/Artesia for randomly deciding to lead Zeon after vehemently hating them for years, and to Nyaan for almost mass-murdering the entire Earth for the sake of a dude who doesn't even like her (and getting away with it). Destiny was better written than this shite and I hated Destiny.

Re-watched the last two episodes before going to sleep. This Anime was amazing the first time I watched it the previous week and its still peak Gundam. It's a shame the reception was mixed, people expecting this to be longer should know its impossible considering 1) we're not talking about Old Anime where being long was common 2) it doesn't need to be long except maybe to explain a few things. Also I found funny some ppl expecting this to be a yuri bait show like that GWitch, the most overrated Gundam ever made, instead the two female characters were fighting for the same guy. I love how this show avoided this and its most likely another reason this Gundam is disliked. FFS, I'm very annoyed GWitch is rated higher than this show. G Gundam and GWitch are the worst AND overrated Gundam ever made.

Finally a good ending for Char where he's happy with Lalah. Most likely he didn't even kill Garma in this timeline.

I won't mind a sequel for GQuuuuuuX if they decide to explore more things but it looks like the ending is pretty closed to me.

GQuuuuuuX is the best Gundam ever made!

decent ride, great ending to an ungreat series. it felt like a >20 eps series, smashed into 12. the 1st part (clan battles) was just useless. if theyd deleted that, nothing much changes. machus mom and old crew arent even worth counting
without bull all this would be just bullpoop. all in all ill just pretend i didnt see this and hope i forget all about it tomorrow
