It took a bit too long for this to get good, and once it got good, the story took a disappointing turn. He's not really a "magic maker" if there are/were sentient beings already proficient in it. The concept he was making magic is what kept me watching despite the slow start. The idea of the very first sentient being discovering an aspect of the world that explains phenomena no one understands and utilizing it is what made the story really compelling.

We evidentially can't have that, though. No. The concept already exists, but the adults were all playing dumb, and he's the descendant of one of the two races that could do magic already. They botched the story direction so hard with that turn. Making magic from scratch was an incredibly unique and interesting story idea. Being the only descendant of a powerful extinct race is the least original thing they could possibly put in the story. It's a damn shame…

It never got good.
The only damn shame about this anime is that it was made in the first place.

Man, this show genuinely had me interested in the first 4-5 episodes. It felt like a Dr. Stone meets isekai but instead of science it's MAGIC!!

But once we had the Gauntlets it just hit every Isekai cliche and ugh, those comments about the sister back on I believe 7-8 with "oh she looks older and more mature now" when shes like 14 was eugh... (Maybe I had weird subs for my watch but still)

Very subpar, if it gets a S2 I would definitely watch it, cause I do hope in that instance of a second season there's more a focus on the magic inventing from the first half. Cause that was great. 5/10 for me.

I don't get what's the point of mc being descendant of redhead ppl. Sounds like it was introduced for a sake of some prophecy bullshit, unless I missed something, there is nothing special about him being descendant.

He learned magic through hard work, not because of talent/genes.
His friend and sister can use magic, so it's not like only redhead ppl can use magic, and you could say they were more talented than him. (little was shown, but they could conjure water and manipulate magic).
His mana capacity is high, but each growth was explained by him expending his mana.

Btw
3 novels were released, two in 2020 and one in 2024 and all of them got covered, so I wouldn't count on S2, lol
Makes me wonder why it was serialized

Am I wrong for having enjoyed this show more than ReZero season 3 part 2?

I liked the chill isekai vibe but still shonen-esque, kinda like Mushoku Tensei

Hopefully we get more seasons

@portajohn this. I was super excited about the original direction, because it's completely unexplored territory. The closest we have seen is some BS like "concept magic" where you can will magic spells into existence, but that's just another broken OP power, not truly "inventing magic".

As Clarke famously said, "any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic". Science is boring because it's slow, and it's hard to mentally connect each incremental step with the final product. But add speed into the process, and you can have a lot of fun. Doctor Stone has proven that. Add some exotic physical properties to the mix, and voilá, you have cooked up fantasy, but in a much more interesting way than "the Gods have made it so".

I guess no author (that I know of) has really suceeded in making a story around this because it takes research and a lot of effort to build the world. Much easier to change the rules of magic according to the moment, or have characters discover them rather than invent them from first principles. In anime, in particular, seems that the economics work against innovation. If you can secure an audience with an initial hook, you can half-bake the rest and move on. Quantity over quality. Only proven, mainstream formulas like battle shounens get the full budget. Shame, real shame.

The show puttered around too much slowing the pacing sometimes a bit too slow on the magical advancements to the point of becoming a boring slice of life with not enough energy or substance. That said I do think that they built enough to make the next season a lot better at this point it feels like we just got one of the longest intros to an anime ever. It's a 4/10 for me.

There's a lot of useless stuff that serves no purpose, too much stuff that could have been cut down, and we could be told why her sister is the only one who hasn't recovered, while all the others, Ben, get up and walk away. Whereas she can barely speak. Well, that doesn't make any sense, but okay. For me, it'll be 6 out of 10. But I wouldn't mind seeing a season 2, why not?

@LeonLanford I can't comprehend how there is people still watching reincarnation & isekai anime without understanding how reincarnation works.

Just here to paddle their flex morality.

Yeah entire series.
People can't love eachother after being with them for 13 YEARS.
@WaterMage It seems you understand how it works? Now tell me how he got transported to that world

She has higher magical capacity than normal people which may delay her full recover

I thought this will turn into anime harem and with overpowered mc, but this is not like that so i watched it until it finished and i like it.

I love how the mc develop the magic from 0, his sister is cute and she is not blood related i guess she have a chance to get romance relationship.

Overall this is fun to watch

It was a good show and pretty underrated. A bit more high budget would have made this a bit more popular. The plot has so many potentials but I highly doubt a sequel as LN updates are slow af and anime didn't reach much audience. Sad!

It's crazy how Marie as soon as she appears in an episode it's good, I hope she gets more screen time in the sequel and I also hope she'll be the only woman in Shion at the limit add Rose but Marie is such a good character that she deserves Shion alone

This is one of unique plots, the anime begins on suprising way, learnt how to create a magic, they're been used to know how to use a magic properly, unique plots and suddenly one of best isekai plots this season!

mc a week of coma oof. Cool mana vision how his perception changes the room brightness.
nice Shion finally heal Marie. long road to rehab.
Nice backstory setup the next arc.
Wholesome farewell scene. lol Raffina & Shion double dense. Cole got a fun mc relation that feel rare in isekais.
Appreciate isekai with more unique elements, slower progression, methodical research, actual tense fights, wholesome relations that realistically build. s2 would be real nice.

Bonus points for using the intro scene in the outro for this though. nice bit there.

I liked the fire and lightning effects they did for this series but everything else not so much. Never got use to his cgi gloves, just looked so silly and out of place every time they appeared. Earlier parts of the show felt like a slog to get through and some of the latter episodes as it just felt like they were dragging on. It's cool he got stronger through practice and training and not just born/reborn powerful and then they decide to just drop the 'special bloodline' trope on us at the very end.

Very forgettable series overall.

This was a proper good isekai that also wasn't generic, at least for an isekai. I like how they developed Marie, the sister and have the entire family play a relevant role. The slow pace of the show certainly helped it imo.

I do agree with the sentiment that it felt disappointing to learn that he wasn't inventing/reinventing magic. But instead, the MC was sort of predetermined to become a great magic user or something. Although, it at least (kinda) explains why this magic-obsessed 30 year old was sent to another world... assuming he fit the bill.

This show wasn't the best but I had fun with it. Despite the revelation that Shion has some lineage of being connected to magic, the early show was really fun watching him explore magic in a somewhat scientific way. I don't think the relevation of his lineage really negatively impacts his character growth. He had the capacity for magic but had to learn everything himself (I do wish the other adults had been more in the dark about it). The slow buildup of Shion getting stronger and stronger was well done. The rest of the characters were likable but sitting out the main female lead (and her friend) for a 3rd of the show was disappointing. It's not even clear to me what was wrong with the sister once she was healed, feels like that could have been better explained. While I didn't mind the new characters, they were too new and only got to the point of being likable.

I really liked the final fight, it became really tense at some point and I really didn't know what would happen.

This episode was very sweet. Everyone had their little interaction with Shion.

Uncertain where I'll rate this but I did enjoy it. It makes me wonder what will happen from here but I doubt we'll ever find out...

The adventure is just beginning - type of an ending. Didn't see any announcements for a continuation so thats it I guess? A shame since I still couldn't tell what it is going to be about.

Will watch the sequel if they ever make it. I found the magic testing and research stuff interesting to watch, but the battling with the vampire and the whole magic wave thing was meh at best.

Did someone leave the waterworks on this episode :}.

This was a nice finale with Marie finally being cured and Shion learning a bit about his background.
It was interesting to see how Marie must have been a really bad case of lethargy sickness as she seem to recover a lot slower than everyone else. Seeing Marie so low in energy was kinda sad as she is usually full of life, but I guess that happens when you are in a coma for 2 years.

Well this was a nice watch and if it gets a second season I'll be here for it!

Not really sure why this got so much hate...wasn't the best anime by any means, but far from being terrible in the sea of isekai shows. The story definitely took quite a turn though, I wonder if Marie and Rose remains an integral part of the cast or if that's it for the "hometown" arc (if someone knows the answer, feel free to spoil me). Seems weird to focus so much on Marie and Rose only for them to be irrelevant for the rest of the series.

One thing I'm confused about is, I thought he did experiments with Rose and it was found that sharing too much magical power can trigger lethargy sickness in the recipient? How is the solution to the problem still sharing x1000 the power? I hope it is eventually explained in more detail how his power increased as well, as I don't really remember anything in the fight that would trigger him getting so much increase.

Also, it seems most of the other patients immediately made full recovery but Marie remains in like a disabled state. Is that because she was using her power to augment her physical strength despite not being the same race as Sion whereas other people weren't really using their magical power? Or is there another reason? Whatever it is, I hope she eventually makes a full recovery...I honestly thought this story was going to be about Sion, Marie, and Rose adventuring together once they grew up a little, but I guess not...

I asked what hate, because starting from your post you need to scroll multiple posts until you see some opinion that is not positive comment, and even then it is mostly neutral and with added explanation.

@EinTheVariance you wrote "so much hate" and I just told you in my previous post that you can scroll that topic, and you can mostly see 'I wish for season 2', score is 6.83, reviews 18/8
You have to scroll like 30 posts to something that looks like "hate"

"It never got good.
The only damn shame about this anime is that it was made in the first place."

So, if the answer to "where is that 'so much hate' " is "here", I don't see it.
