Pressure? I think this is a point that is not dealt with as thoroughly as it should be.

Anyway, a challenge!

Glad to see the brat getting somewhat humbled and now she's clingy towards Inori.

Regarding Hikaru's coach, I wonder if that's also her dad as they seem to have very similar eye color and I don't recall if her being his daughter has been mentioned.

Here is an exceptionally punchable one from the same scriptwriter, though Ninner has already levelled up from brat to unbearable gremlin...

Leia, I'm your father! She said she has no mother, that's suspicious. The dark side runs strong in their family...

I wonder if Hikari's program music, "The Danse Mcabare" (Dance of Death), is foreshadowing for her character development ? I'm just wondering out loud... not looking for spoilers

Regrettably, there is a bigger problem right now, as it turns out the japanese animation studio wholesale plagiarized Hikaru's routine from a real-life, world championship winning performance of a famous south korean figure skater, including dress, music and choreography. I'm not even sure if foreign channels, like Disney and Hulu can keep Medalist on air after this snafu, partly due to legal risk and partly due to the political fallout!

oooh..Ty for the info. I hadn't seen anything about that in my feeds yet. Hopefully, the athlete and studio can come to terms with giving credit or a monetary settlement that keeps them happy or whatever. Thankfully, I don't watch anything on any subscription service. ☠️

With Inori's score being higher than the average, the Meikoh Cup Prelims get more heated, especially from Ryoka's end that she'll deliver as expected.

It's Ryoka's turn for the Prelims...but as soon as she started her performance, the immediate blank-out caused her to have second thoughts, even deviating out of the program to deliver a 3rd place finish, humbling her ego to submit to Mario, even though she has had her episodes of dealing with a rather narcissistic skater, someone who's just like her to work together in partnership. It's honestly heartwarming to see Ryoka and Mario make up, much less her and Inori.

It's time for the Novice stages, and Inori having to see Rioh again and his renowned Coach, along with Hikaru and the others, it feels like a total wind shift seeing the seniors execute their performance which is on another level. And that mesmerizes everyone as she easily gets first place with all of her precise movements, executed to perfection. And in the midst of Inori wanting to see Hikaru, being saved by the same man whom she deemed as frightening...he's in fact the Olympic gold medalist of Jun Yodaka, someone who knows Tsukasa well and is her coach.

But to say that he and Inori would win against Jun and Hikaru, that's quite the declaration of war of a lifetime.

Miki’s attachment to Inori really made me laugh lol! I liked that she realized her mistake and stepped back. Also, Miki’s coach is so kind and encouraging toward her student.

Hikaru, on the other hand, showed an exceptional level of skill. I totally agree with her coach when he said, "You won’t be able to beat her even if you train from dusk till dawn for a lifetime!" lol.

I really liked Inori’s coach when he said, "I have the passion to protect two dreams at once!" Yes! He hasn’t forgotten that he, too, is still pursuing his own dreams.

Beautiful episode!! Of course Hikaru's performance was the highlight for me, and it couldn't have been done better, with a lot of details added to the performance from the manga, though one small detail that escaped me was Hikaru's look at the beginning of her performance, which felt a lot more chilling in the manga..

I'm really glad we got more details about Ryoka and Mario's debuts as a team and about Ryoka's past, since those are also translated more vaguely in the manga. Its great for Mittens that she has a coach like Nacchin who can understand her frustration and talk to her like you would another kid. I'm glad the two made up, and the moment on the podium was absolutely screenshot worthy!X'39

It felt a bit weird to hear Jun since I expected his voice to be deeper and less husky but that still works I guess..>:I>
I'm also glad they kind of changed the way that scene was delivered, as it feels like the impact worked better in the anime than the manga! I wonder if we'll get the extra chapter adapted next episode, as well as Tsukasa's past and motives for being a skater, since those are closely tied with Jun himself.

the animation is amazing, but there were some... questionable monologes in here lol.

mike is a child. children need to be thought how to act, bc that's the basis of their upcoming life. the coach encouraging the selfish behaviour in a kid who already has no friends (proving her attitude wrong) and essentially saying 'you can act however you want if you end up outplacing others' is wrong af. exactly how you create insufferable adults, like the other really bad take here: the olympic medalist. crazy beef backed by crazy takes i swear

i lilke the story and the animation, but all the characters are fucking insufferable

Holy crap, I was fangirling seeing Miké glomp Inori. Also could totally sympthasize with her too. Awesome we got to see Hikaru's performance too, instead of it being saved for the climax or skipped entirely. There is so much good stuff ^^

Medalist has the same scriptwriter as Girls Band Cry, so no surprises here.
(After Miké gave up on ice, she still wanted to prove she's not wrong so she changed her name to Iseri Nina, moved to Tokyo Kawasaki, started flipping people off and cohabitated with a drunkard, soon forming the angry rock band Spineless Spiny Ant. The rest is on Crunchyroll.)

Hikaru's dance was a spectacular sequence to witness. The graphics were done amazingly and everything plays so smoothly that it is enchanting to watch, even multiple times over. Great attention to detail in terms of sound too, allowing minimal but pronounced acoustic intrusions, like the skating blades and impactful clangs, to be included, rendering the entire performance even more magical and involving to witness. And the way the musical piece was better arranged to exquisitely meld with every remarkable feat and act of her performance...

Sheer artistry and visual bliss to observe.

This sits among my favorite animated sequences. Much love to the authors behind this :)

it's a classic children's drama where the protagonist is pathetic and always fails, then comes a river of dialogues talking about determination and persistence, and about how incredible it is to achieve your goals
forced sensationalism af
every children's story they make is completely ridiculous and without any content, there are dramas and there are dramas so dramatic that I think about dropping them every second, the genre is not bad but this kind of thing is terrible
seinen? never

Miketarou did well, but her stubborn personality cost her the competition. She ignored Nacchin’s advice on recovery, and now it’s too late—but there’s always room to grow.

I get where Jun is coming from. Inori wanting to beat Hikaru is a nice goal, but realistically, Hikaru is a polished talent who has trained hard for years. Still, this is anime, and with MC power, anything can happen in just a few years or months.

Hikaru's skating is from a higher ethereal plane unknown and unseen by mankind. I like that besides showing reactions from the audience, it was just a straight through uncut show of her captivating performance.

But Miketa's with all her cat poses is even better. Glad that she truly became Inori's friend, someone that she can skate alongside in her quest to match Hikaru one day.

Really nice of the gold medalist Jun to save Inori as she fell down the stairs. At least he does have a heart. But not much because damn how broken do you have to be to say words like that to a little girl who who has hopes and dreams and is trying her best? Obviously he has his own story to tell but I wish he'd be a bit more humble than saying stuff like "you'll never be as good as her." Even Tsukasa felt challenged in that moment. But bro still stood up for his student and challenged the gold medalist back. The fight is on. It'll probably be like season 6 or something before Inori would, if ever, be able to compete on Hikaru's level (or maybe not, maybe the next freaking season possibly since this show is quite fast-paced, which I like), but at least goals have been set and Inori and Tsukasa are for sure going to go hard in trying to meet them. Lfg.

Inori, Mittens, and Hikaru are so good! I'll admit, I'm a bit biased to Mittens. She's cute, and those expressions are on point. Her skating seems more "fun" I would say. Inori and Hikaru are more classical skaters.
