Just completed watching the old Dirty Pair TV series plus the two unaired episodes. It was a fun series to watch with its healthy mix of comedy, action and splashes of basic mystery elements. I got my jollies keeping my eye out for topical pop culture references which they snuck into the backgrounds. For example a list of the cast members of the original Star Trek series, a list of pre-1985 Hollywood movies (including Krull, Poltergeist, Airplane!), the Tamiya model company emblem and band names (Power Station, Kuwata Band). Then there were the wacky things like a phone booth (in the 22nd century they'd have phone booths?) and gas stations. To sum it up, for better or worse I'd say they just don't make anime like that anymore.

Why does the flag behind him have 50 stars? If HAP takes place in the 30's(?) or 40's(?) it should be 6 even rows of 8, not 5 of 6 each alternating with 4 of 5 each.

LOL such an eye for detail!
Well, Hetalia doesn't only take place in WW2... but incidentally that scene was. But I think the point was just to show the American flag when he says he's the herooo~ rather than be historically accurate (which this show is nothing but...)

Just finished Prince of Tennis last night. Good series. 8/10. Yeah, I wanted to smack Ryoma every now and again because of his cocky attitude, but the other characters (♥♥Fuji-sempai♥♥ and ♥♥Kaidoh-kun♥♥) more than made up for it! ^_^

I also watched practically all of the movies/OVAs afterwards. Atobe's Gift and Survival Mountain both got a 7/10.

As for The Two Samurai movie, I was almost ready to give that an 8/10... until towards the end of the movie... Echizen vs Echizen... and all the Dragonball-esque special effects. Yeah. That killed it for me. Samurai got a 6/10... just because of the last 10 minutes. >.<

Now... on to all of the Nationals OVAs/series. Hopefully these 3 mini-series will make up for Two Samurai.

What can I say. Occasionally my anal retentiveness comes out and I notice little things like that. That and I enjoy American history (what there is) and the evolution of the US flag is a major part of that.

Just completed Kannagi, Crazy Shrine Maidens and it was really a lot of fun. The plot wasnt all that great but the characters were really excellent and the episodes were really funny at times. Overall it was one of those surprise stories that just worked for me. My only real gripe was the ending left me with many unanswered questions and I am just sorry it never carried across to another series.

Finally finished Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni a few days ago having started watching it back in September 2006. Then I went ahead and blitzed through its sequel Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni Kai is less than 48 hours. Overall I found the first series to be the more interesting of the two (in spite of the long time elapsed in viewing it) as it was more perplexing and to a large degree, more disturbing. The last arc of the second series was almost mechanical in comparison, thus the fact I watched the episodes in rapid succession. The one knock I have with the first series is that it didn't turn into compelling viewing until after the halfway mark (in episodes - I had watch episode 14 last June). I suppose the next question for me is how long will it take me to finish Umineko no Naku Koro Ni.

Side story: I had no idea that the fictional village of Hinamizawa was based on Ogimachi in Shirakawago when I visited there last November. Now that I know that then all those ema with anime/manga style drawings at the Hachimangu shrine there make sense. I didn't take many photos of them though. Here are the ones I found interesting at the time: "Nipa...", Rika, Hannyu and Rika and Rena.

I just completed Chocotto Sister a few moments ago and this was a story that was messed up. Too much emphasis was placed on bra's, panty's and nuances that should not have been there in the first place. But, it got better from episode 20, which doesnt help much as the series was only 24 episodes long! Characters were Ok, although their artwork didnt do much for me, They also had this incredibly irritating end piece that they kept on using inside the show which really started getting a bit much.
However, with some intelligent work this could be a great series. The idea is good, and there are shades of Clannad in it, but stop with the ecchi for crying out loud.
May the Uguu be with you.

Couldn't agree more about Taiki. I need more!! But I still gave the series a 10/10. I loved it... overabundance of recaps and all. ^_^

On another note...

Now that I've gotten back to my anime, I've finally finished Letter Bee. What a GREAT series. Emotion, action, and a great story. It ends on a cliff hanger, but it ends with the tag "To be continued in season 2, coming Fall 2010" ... so I'm happy. Can't wait for the new season!! 10/10
I started Letter Bee months ago just had other animes take over. That will have to be a summer season watch for me.

Anyways I just finished B Gata H Kai. It was good, even very funny at times. I would recommend it as a mid-summer watch.

Hear, hear! I got tired of that about three quarters of the way through the random episode I watched. Accordingly I dropped the series and slapped it with a terrible rating.

Just finished B Gata H Kei.

Loved the ending on a personal level :)

Hey if you think a guy can't have trouble getting a hard on into willing woman, I'm here to correct you hehe. My first time was on my honeymoon, and god was it funny in retrospect hehe.

Finished watching Kiss X Sis TV and it was mainly blah. Too many poorly executed jokes that used to much ep duration. And considering the two girls have a decided desired to fuck him, and considering the parents don't even mind if he fucks them, the fact the season ends and he hasn't even really made the attempt.

Almost finished watching Working, and it has been the years best so far for me.

Angel Beats has been good, but over rated.
While not technically anime, currently I am a big fan of Hatsune Miku.

I don't think that if the characters were American high school males the series wouldn't have gotten beyond episode 2. A willing girl is an open invitation. No cajoling would be needed.

I haven't seen working so I can't comment on it. I thought AB was good on a different level. The series is very philosophical about "where did it all begin".

Finished The Sacred Blacksmith last night, and it feels like half a story.

So, no resolution, but an obvious opening for a second season.

Still, there was some nice character growth.

Completed the series Coyote Ragtime Show. I had this one on my want to see list for quite some time. I think I expected it to be better than it was. It was enjoyable, and Mister is a hoot, but I guess I was expecting a little more.... depth? Not sure what it's missing, still definitely worth a look see.

I finished Dance in the Vampire Bund. I liked it. While it didnt have amazingly good characters and plot there was something about it that kept me glued to my seat and eager to watch the next episode. I dont know how the manga compares and its been pretty much critically skewered by reviewers on MAL, I think its gotten a bit of a bad rap. The major issue with alot being the loli. Seriously I wonder why people get so bent out of shape about loli;s. Arent they in every anime now? Can you even be a fan of anime and get offended by loli's anymore? So I dont know she may look like a loli but shes 1000 years old or whatever. Can you still be a loli then? I dont really think so.

First, IMHO, no. Past 2-digit ages you most certainly cannot be a loli. No matter how cute your undead/immortal body.
With that out of the way, the manga is much better. By the time I watched the anime, I had already progressed past that part of the story in the manga. Some of the story was altered quite a bit. Akira's amnesia is a good example.
Some of it seemingly for the sake of "service". For example, Meiren (girl with the hard candy)
But overall the anime was okay. Still gave it a 6/10.

Just completed Canvas 2 and it was an odd one. Its the usual slice of life/harem/school/romance show but with a bit of a twist to it. The story was OK and dragged on for awhile, but it had some very likeable characters and went from moments when I really enjoyed it to moments when I started getting irratated. Artwork is Ok, music not too intrusive and the ending was the sort that surprised me because even though I knew it was coming I had hoped it wouldnt turn out the way it did. Sadly the wrong gal got the guy and one of my favourite characters left me with a tear. I suspect I will be mulling over the series for quite some time because it did have merit, its just that I felt that it was done wrong.

Working continues to amuse, and I see it may be ending soon, pity, because I am really enjoying it.

Almost everything he says applies to me. Though there were elements of KissxSis I liked (as in, when they actually attempted to have a plot). The elements with their teacher I found particularly amusing. However, its a fan service show, so your mileage may vary.

Just finished Angel Beats myself now and I am still in two minds about it. It definitely needs a rewatch because the long gaps between how i watched episodes was made it difficult for me to remember what was going on, but I found it visually very good and I loved the music in it. Kanade (Angel) was stunning though, she just had a presence I could not quite fathom. I wasnt too keen on the story though, but it was well worth watching and there were moments when I had to reach for the tissues. I suspect 2nd viewing will make sense, but I still get a nagging feeling that I missed something considering all the hype.

I gave Angel Beats! a higher score. I thought it was another anime with a bitter sweet ending. I had a pretty good idea that the ending would happen the way it did, but the second ending was interesting. :)

We really didn't need to see how everyone had their regrets resolved. That alone would have taken another 13 episodes and would have lessened the series, as a whole.

kur, I've learned from anime that not a lot is ever fully explained. Maybe it's the Japanese culture. I don't know.
Anyways, why I feel it would have lessened the series. If it had gone on longer, this means that the next few episodes (let's say 12) would turn into our favorite cliche' "monster of the week". Actually it would be "who can we help get over their regrets?" This was fine with the Yui episode because we saw the change of the series from "battle the angel" to "Kanade is here for a purpose".

Yeah, each episode would be slightly different because of the different regrets each person had, but the ending would still be same. It would have dragged the series down because of the repetative nature of it (Haruhi Suzimiya's "Endless Eight" was purposely the extreme of this plotline.

I'm glad it ended like it did.

Since that entire scene felt like it was written in 5 minutes by a PMSing lady it explains everything.

ok, actually that entire episode felt like it was written really fast just to end the series in ep 13. And even without showing everyone's regrets (the cast is too big anyway) there were ways to make the ending more believable and less rushed.

I just completed Working on Tuesday evening and I have to admit I really enjoyed the series. It was zany and had some really odd characters in it that tickled me pink. It was one of those shows that didnt have a really complicated story and that was quite relaxing to watch.
I also completed Futakoi last night and it was Ok. Heaps of really cute twins and a reasonably decent hero made it fun to watch. Plot was not complicated at all and it was almost a typical slice of life, but with twins. I am busy getting the episodes for Futakoi Alternative now and will be watching it over the weekend. I believe its much better.

I dunno, I guess I'm too impatient so I can't stand it, his expressions are amusing, but his weepy spineless personality really gets on my nerves. I don't hate him but I like him the least.

And yeah, I doubt they'd animate the next part of the manga with Haruna's game :( (although if we're lucky they'll release it as an ova?? ;_;) Haruna is so much like Goro, the main guy from MAJOR, cool on the field but dummy off the mound, so if Haruna could get his own series (in my wet dreams) it'd be too much alike, but Goro left for America after high school, so Haruna could become pro in the japanese league.. Saraiya Goyou was probably one of the most beautiful shows I've ever seen and the ending was perfect. Finally an ending that isn't rushed and issues are folded neatly in a sympathetic way even though it was only 12 episodes. I raised my total score to 8.

I loved that show from the very beginning. It's so different from the usual "samurai series", very refreshing! And i totally agree about the ending.
