That 1st part was the most unflinching portrayal of psychopathic evil I have seen in anime. I was ready to drop this show on the spot "this is too much".
And please don't even mention the word "brainwashed" that's not even funny..
Anyhow if I was Badeni or Oczy the first thing I would do is kill that scumbag like a rocket and flee, the situation then couldn't really be any worse than it already is.
I really like this show but if anything bad happens to Jolenta I WILL drop it. She is my hope and my joy..

Watching the torture scene made me angry again at the thought of how there were probably so many of such things in the past that happened under the guise of the Church, especially when these people just wanted to discover the truth. 🥲

Also, the ending certainly did not bode well. 🥲🥲🥲

@BIGDnDGirl Then he was stupid to get drunk in public in the first place.
@Zarutaku and it's just a matter of narrative, Nowak is Jolenta's father so he already knows that she studies astrology so Badenni just answered that she helped them with something about astrology it was just a normal conversation, no and since studying astrology was forbidden in the world he would only avoid that question if he had prior knowledge, besides that Nowak could ask Jolenta about it later and end up receiving the same answer from her if she tried to lie or change the subject about it I'm sure Nowak would realize right away that she was hiding something about them.

I don't understand why they cut the woman's "I'm sorry, Anna" scene after she recounts the torture. It adds a bit of tension to the scene and would only last about 2 seconds.

This episode was rightfuly titled "Terror", because I was terrified watching it.

The first part remembered us how gruesome inquisitors are, since it has been quite a bit since we last saw inquisitors.

But when Nowak was called by the bishop for another cosmic herectics, we all knew where it was going down, and I started SWEATING.

And then Badeni, Oczy and Jolenta were all together, just having a good time, talking about the heliocentrism theory, and I was just like, PLEASE, STOP TALKING ABOUT IT. And then it's made the (not so big) reveal that Nowak is Jolenta's father. I can now understand why the Manga readers were mad when in episode 7 we could see that Nowak was Jolenta's father right away, although I always thought is was really hinted that he was her father even if we take that scene out. But since we already knew, the impact of the scene was not the impact that it should have had. But because of this reveal, the rest of the episode was so much tense!

When Jolenta and Nowak were going back home, I was finally "ok, maybe it was another herectics" but then, Oczy started telling Badeni everything just right here and there, and I was like "MAN, JUST GET AWAY FROM THERE", and then Nowak appears and I'm just shivering, like this can't be real, with the reveal that he is an inquisitor.
Badeni and Oczy's future seem really bleak now, and Badeni should have written whatever he was going to write...
Since it's their 1st offense, they might get away, but that would imply they had to destroy everything they had...

I really don't know what's going to happen next episode, if they are going for the run, or if they are going to get tortured, but still live, but whatever happens, I think it's clear the anime is getting ready to advance for the next generation. This has been a question many (including myself) have had since episode 3, and that was if this anime would be frequently changing MCs, and I think this episode is answering that. Not only that, but we're 11 episodes in, and the knights that appear in the opening haven't appeared yet, which might be hinting they are only appearing right at the end of this 1st cour. Yeah, we're already finishing the 1st cour, that's crazy! I'm really happy this anime has 25 episodes!

We all know who made the tip against Badeni though... That clergic that is with Badeni discovered Piast's book last episode, and Piast must have written there that Badeni and the others were trying to prove the heliocentrism theory... And since he didn't like Badeni at all, it was an easy tip for him...

It's also interesting to note that Nowak made sure that Jolenta wasn't with them when he started to interrogate them, so that she can be absolved from all this situation, because he must know (or at least suspect) that she's involved in all this, but is protecting her. That is pretty much how I expected Nowak would act, since back in episode 1 or 2, he clearly said he was only that work to protect his daugther, and I'm sure he wouldn't even consider torture his own daugther "in the name of the blasphemy". But knowing of all of this, I don't know if he won't be forced to do that...

I seriously can't wait another week for the next episode! I need to know what's going to happen now! I don't think this final part is going to be a "troll" and Nowak would only be like "thank you for taking care of my daugther", because when this anime promises, it delivers, the anime wasn't afraid to kill the MC off, and Nowak wouldn't be telling them he was an inquisitor for nothing...

This has to be the best episode ever since episode 3 (although episode 9 was really good too)!
@PokefanPT I read the manga and I don't understand why they get mad about it, for me it was always obvious that Jolenta's father would be Nowak the moment they hid his face and put the conversation in an attempt to keep her from committing some heresy.

One does not simply reveal potentially lethal information in a normal conversation with a stranger, that's dumb.
Besides, he could and should have prepared a believable fake excuse for such a situation, telling the truth was dumb.
Not to mention that meeting and talking about their forbidden research in public was already dumb in the first place.

Ah yes, the return of the inquisitor and his dirty work. Leave it to him to give little tips to the newbies. He even knows dirt on the Bishop, the bishop having kids 💀 the Church is keeping that scandal on the down low.

And now we're back in torture land, squeezing words out of that woman who wandered in the forest. Really is a cruel job (especially with the people who are actually innocent or have their reasons).

Meanwhile; we have the three musketeers and their continued partnership. You can have all the theories you want, but making it public is always the hard part. They can have the inquisitors on their tail.

That reveal.. is a bomb and a half. Her dad was the inquisitor all this time.. welp. This isn't a comfy bar conversation, I think. How much you tell decides how quickly you get locked up. But I guess the meeting ended well enough. There's an X% chance-... welp. Now Badeni knows.

Again, studying astronomy and being interested in the cosmos isnt a problem. It is a reasonable answer to the question of how they met Jolenta, since Nowak knows what her daughter studies and where she is employed. Problems would arise if certain topics or theories are discussed or studied, obviously...

Dunno if a fake excuse invented on the spot would have work out. Cant really see Oczy and Jolenta backing it up convincingly... apart from that Badeni doesnt know if Jolenta is capable to lie effectively or what her reaction would be upon hearing lies from Badeni

anyway, next few eps will have all the answers...

I like how the inquisitors had more common sense than some people even in current year that torture can lead to lies but seems Nowak does not care if the information is a lie to begin with. I kind of get the mindset of Nowak but the guy must be dim witted not just cold blooded. It seems like he merely is making excuses for his selfish ways considering it is clear that the world is being put into disorder and evil due to people compliant like him which can do far more harm than the church being challenged.

I dont know why Oczy didnt kick Badeni under the table to get his attention. Maybe he didn't know how he would react and not get they are in danger. Was sloppy of him to be speaking aloud so soon though since a cool night the voice surely can travel far.

Maybe they arent found out. Maybe Nowak is just going to ask for assistance finding someone.

The hypocrisy of this inquisitor...

If he believed in what he said (about "heretics" being people who signed a pact with the devil against humanity), he wouldn't have spared his daughter.

And even though this is just an anime, they've kind of embellished how often inquisitors went out around seeking out conflict & torturing anyone who studied astronomy.

Even the Spanish Inquisition, the most notorious & wrathful of history, "only" killed between 1% & 3% of the 150,000+ people they prosecuted over 300 years. That still amounts to 3,500 - 4,500ish deaths, but this anime makes out like everyone is killed right from the get go.

Last thing - even Copernicus, the person who published & pushed Heliocentrism to the mainstream, was NOT executed. In fact, he died in good standing with the Catholic Church. Again, I understand this is an anime, but they're really taking it another level with the torture over the most minor of things.

@THE_BigDingus
They are not persecuting people who study astronomy and the cosmos, only if they spread heliocentrism and other topics. This is set decades and decades before the birth of Copernicus and the very reason why these guys are obsessed over punishing whoever endorse and pursue heliocentrism will be a spoiler in itself. Just keep watching, every answer will be given in the latter half of the story

I bet the reveal was more suspenseful in the manga since you can't recognize the voice but it was still worth it to see Oczy's shock! I was so mad when Badeni mentioned his research.. in a bar... to a complete stranger! I feel like he will die and somehow Oczy and Jolenta will continue.

I'm hoping she is still around the corner and somehow convinces Nowak to leave but you never know with this one since they killed the MC. I'm holding hope he is still alive somewhere tho.

Even though I already had a hunch what might happen since it was too easy to figure out Jolenta's father with Tsuda's voice, this episode still made me tense like few other anime out there. Both during the new recruits' training and the 4s' conversation at the tavern, I was watching through gritted teeth, jumping at each change in expression. And that cliffhanger, can't wait for the next week's episode! Every 3rd episode of this anime has been a masterpiece so far, so I'm prepared to get my mind blown again next time!

This episode made me scream "NO! STOP THAT" at my phone for so many different reasons.
I was always hated torture in media, i hate things like the movie Hostel or the Saw franchise.
But in situations like this one, where's this situation really happened with real people, i watch with "no problem" (I still hate to watch, but there's a reason for this scene's to be there, and not only the torturep0rm that is usually in media with this type of content).
I think we should all remember and point that we used to and still do torture people for doing absolutely nothing wrong, and basically everybody knows that they didn't do nothing wrong and it's just a power play in some very unfortunate people.
And I don't know if I thank or curse the people showing the "spoiler" that it's the first 30 seconds of the first episode, specially because Novak already told Rafal how that torture instrument works, so the sound of turning mechanism between each phrase being told just made me more and more desperate for Oczy. The only thing that I'm not 100% sure is who's the one talking in the opening? Maybe the next protagonist, being since Rafal I don't believe anymore that Oczy and Badeni are going to last long, but maybe I'm wrong.

And well I still liking every second of this anime, absolutely favorite

super tense episode... the whole talk on the bar after Nowak arrived gave me anxiety for every little movement and expression change... I was as tense as Oczy, XD

I was still tense when Nowak left with Jolenta, and Oczy "relaxed" after he went out of sight... "no you fool, don't talk, get away from there first, explain later!!" ... was feeling Nowak would come back

and I swear Badeni would notice how Oczy got all tense when he saw Nowak, but I guess dude don't care enough to observe him that much, XD ... also, he was probably too relaxed with the drink and the "celebration" feeling for having complete the theory

Man, i really wish they hide Nowak voice with voice changer or something when he talked to Jolenta episodes ago.
It will definitely make the reveal more impactful in the Anime format.
I mean if you reading the Manga sure it will be a INSANE Plot Twist, but we are in the Anime format and Kenjiro Tsuda voice are so recognizable.

That was my only complain, everything else is ABSOLUTE CINEMA 🙌

An all-around great episode!

I really enjoyed the training of the new inquisitors. The torture scene was difficult to watch. Also, I'm not surprised that there's some hypocrisy going on in the Church, that's just true to life, so I'm glad it's addressed in the story.

The whole bar scene was really sweet. It was fun getting to see Jolenta with the guys again! Things got so tense after her dad got there, though. I can't wait to see if the cliffhanger is a fake out or if there's cause for concern.

Holy crap the drama in this episode!

Nowak - ok I hate him. I'm just doing a job because the Church must keep order, my ass. He's a straight up sadist and his job is the excuse. But he's great at training the next generation of gullible wanna be inquisitors.

Oczy has finished his book, that's pretty fast considering Jolenta only recently taught him how to read!

Nowak is Jolenta's father???!!??? This is not good. For any of them.
