Nice to finally catch up 👍🏼
The concerns and worries of these kids are really reminding me of my first crush, more than nearly any other anime. And the complications of sharing a house is such a difficult thing to deal with. How can he be honest about his feelings when they have to live under the same roof even if he gets rejected? It’s written with real consideration of how he must be agonising about that.
I can’t see a way forward for them, but that’s how good writers surprise us. Roll on next week!

I knew they'd cheat us at the ending of the last one. Pathetic.

Imagine if we ever got a romance anime without cheap fake-out end-of-episode kisses?

@Marinate1016 "Finally we get an ep from Chinatsu perspective!"

No, we didn't.

Yes, we did. Why are you even watching this you seem to hate it.
@Marinate1016 No, I think this is one of the best animes of this admittedly weak season, and that's why it disappoints me when it resorts to such cheap cliche tricks. And no, this wasn't a "Chinatsu perspective" episode. Chinatsu is still more or less a black box. Where was her inner voice?

The one thing that bothers me in this anime is that we don't get to see things from the other characters perspectives, we only see Taiki's POV

Edit: Apparently I'm not the only one who doesn't like this

@itomaua I know, right? I don't know why I started this series, and I had trouble believing how highly rated it was. Hence, I continued watching. But at this point, I am just getting tired of it, lol. This is all too similar to all the cliche love drama in anime. Can we please have an anime where things make sense? As Taiki, I would've 100% given up at this point.

How does this even classify as romance in some people's opinion? It's episode 10 and they barely ACCIDENTALLY TOUCHED and they're acting like it's supposed to mean something. At this pace they'll MAYBE hold hands by season 3. I get that this is a slow-burn, but there have to be limits. To me, this is a regular, run-of-the-mill sports anime masquerading as romance to draw in audience. If the two MCs were both girls it would barely qualify as yuri bait, so I'm not sure how this is supposed to be a full-on romance. I literally fast-forwarded through the second half of this episode jsut to see how Chinatsu reacted to that half-*ssed development, and what do you know? She rejected his so-called "advances" (I feel disrespectful to all the pathologically shy people for even calling it that), thus resetting the whole relationship. Again. Ughhhhh.

I have no more patience for this nonsense. I don't like mediocre sports anime, which this certainly is, and I don't like to be baited with romance with absolutely no payoff, which this anime is doing over and over again. The animation is good, I'll give it that, but I don't care. I'm done.

@CalebFalconer Episode 10 is actually available in Netflix JP and the global release is 1EP behind. Previously, Netflix would release new episodes with English subs in Japan so many people used VPNs to change location and watch the series or get it from the Sea🏴‍☠️ .

But Netflix got wind of this, and they stopped releasing with ENG subtitle when airing in JP. Currently, a fan-sub group is doing fan-subs for it, so people are probably watching it or they understand Japanese.

But people like us, we have to wait for global release as I don't know JP and I don't want to watch the fan-sub version.

Sorry for the late reply. Thank you for this info 🙏

It really sucks that we have to watch it a week behind on Netflix... I used to watch all my anime on one site, but I got real busy with personal life for the last 4 months and now when I come back to being able to watch it, the site I loved had been taken down and have had to resort to the alternatives like Netflix and Crunchyroll... 🤦

Anyway, thanks mate. I am the same as you, would love to know Japanese well enough to understand it, but not there quite yet and I don't really want to watch fan subs either. Much prefer to watch the official thing. 🙏🫡🤝

The only good thing going for the male MC was his determination in sports, but the last two episodes he has actually "given up", in other words, but he has had to have the female MC and the sempai tell him things to continue motivating himself, so they even took that away from him, lessening his character.

He has an opportunity to go with his crush to the store and he blows it by saying "I need to keep distance" and "I will go alone", what a weirdo, but his father and her convince him to go together.

And now the writers have the female MC basically stating that she wants nothing to happen between them, what an absolutely depressing anime.

Literally, nothing works out for the male MC and he is also an annoying character.
Note: I don’t lazily watch 3-5 episodes, biasedly compare to other anime, or unfairly judge by surface level similarities. With every anime I start, I watch the entire series, both Japanese Sub & English Dub, then judge each anime based on what they present, to give an honest and fair rating.

Ok, it was expected that they weren't kissing after the scene of last episode, but it was still exciting to see what would happen next.

Honestly, I wasn't expecting such a depressing episode again. This anime has overall been a bright trip, but in the span of 3 episodes we got like 2 depressing episodes. What I'm loving in this anime is that we really are seeing it from Taiki's perspective, because we never really know what Chinatsu is thinking.
And that's what happened towards the end of the episode, when she said to forget what happened in the last episode, and that she would not let that happen again, drawing a clear line to her relationship with Taiki. The thing is that I really don't know what she's thinking, because this does seem off character for her, and it might be because she really is doing with some other intention, but that isn't being transmited to us either. When she said that, I was as shocked as Taiki, and this anime never fails with these strong scenes. Taiki was definetly affected by this by the end of the episode, and I'm curious to see how he is going to deal with it in the episode, and what Hina thinks about this.

The earlier part of the episode was out usual Blue Box, and I loved it!

Honestly, didn't like that I had to wait so much to watch this episode, but anyways, I hope episode 11 comes out in the right time!

The only thing I have to complain about this anime is that Kyou, an interesting character that had a big role in the first 4 episodes, is getting more and more sidetracked, and that's kinda a bummer!
Can't wait for the next episode!

that's insane how they shamelessly baited us. I was already upset about the unnecessary cliché ending of them falling onto each other. Ep9 ended with chinatsu clearly reaching towards taiki's face, ep10 started with chinatsu reaching for the towel. They even changed the animation a bit because she's reaching higher (towards the towel) in this ep, talk about scamming...
@griddyweeb I noticed that too, they completely skipped this frame like it didn't happened

This episode wasn't as good as the previous ones...

The pace was slower than normal and the development of the couple (Chinatsu and Taiki) seems to have regressed a lot in this episode. The animation was also quite stiff in some scenes, while they were talking or walking, Even the characters' facial expressions seemed a bit "shallow" in this episode, the direction fell a bit flat.

Now speaking only about the content of the episode itself... It was slower paced than usual, but we had Taiki's expectations throughout the episode regarding Chinatsu as the main topic. He still thinks about what happened while he was sick, and from Chinatsu's attitude it's pretty obvious that she likes him too. What they need to do to stay together is just have an attitude and face their feelings to the point of saying what each of them really thinks.

Chinatsu limiting the distance for Taiki was a return, because even though they are both in love with each other, they still have fears about how others, or how this can affect their future, The truth is that they need to be more honest with their feelings and put these concerns out of sight for a while.

Overall the content and pace + animation of this episode didn't please me as much as the previous ones, actually this episode was pretty bad. I hope episode 11 can be more useful, this episode just felt like filler and unnecessary drama with Chinatsu asking for "distance".

We saw a bit of Chinatsu's pov when her friend started talking about living together with a boy. Appearently she doesn't talk about Taiki to her friends, while she's been living with him for three months and they seemed to be becoming pretty close. Idk, if I like a girl I immediatly talk about it to my friends haha, like Taiki does. But she has appearently never even mentioned him... thats not a good sign for Taiki... but maybe girls are different when it comes to that stuff.

Damn, I would have been crushed too, poor Taiki, Hina has real chance now tho, but doubt Taiki would see her that way. Chinatsu almost came back into my top 10, but this made her drop again.

I can kind of see why she said that, it seems like she could already like him a little, but probably doesn't want to get too close for some reason, maybe doesn't want to make it weird since she has to live in their house, but this move already made it for Taiki. God, I can't wait to see how they go from here, the episodes are week behind for me..

Um this was a weird turn but I guess it's because we're almost halfway the season. I feel Taiki became annoyingly 'weak' in the last episodes (lost an important match and now this), but hopefully this is just a short transition. I wonder if Hina will dare to make a move after having heard Taiki's struggle lol

After that brilliant cliffhanger from the previous episode, we unfortunately backpedaled in this one when Chinatsu said to forget that even happened, I knew nothing huge would result from that close encounter but I wasn’t expecting a net loss lol, poor Taiki has been taking L after L lately, guess he spent all his luck on Chinatsu moving in with him in the first place. But really it’s not as bad as it seems, this is just episode 10 of 25, so you know things aren’t staying this way for long between Taiki and Chinatsu, I’m sure there will be a big rebound as we enter the summer break (I say as we’re about to enter Winter 2025 lol), magic typically happens at summer festivals which is probably coming, if so I’m really looking forward to it.

And there’s also the fact I get Chinatsu’s stance, she’s probably feeling conflicted after the conversations she’s had with her friend and Taiki’s dad (who’s really cool btw), also it’s definitely a teenager moment lol. But then you also have Hina who could potentially use this time to get close to Taiki, but I’m not sure if that’ll happen or not, I feel like Hina would want to help Taiki over furthering her own position, but we shall see.

Their relationship and personalities feel so natural. I totally understand why Chinatsu put that boundary with Taiki – it wasn’t a rejection, but rather a focus on her priorities, especially with nationals coming up. It’s obvious she has feelings for him, but her passion for basketball comes first right now.

Taiki, however, seems to have misinterpreted her words. As a teenager, it’s easy to see why he would feel that way – it’s tough when someone you care about says something that sounds distant. But giving someone space and walking away are two different things. Unfortunately, Taiki might be going down the wrong path if he sees it as the latter.

It seems like if Hina steps in, things are bound to get even more interesting.

@B3RyL01 "I get that this is slow burn, I just want them to bang by ep 6 like Horimiya"
@nathh tbf Hori and Miyamura banging in ep 6 was a legitimately refreshing moment in high school romance anime. Stuff like that is extraordinarily rare in that genre and I view it as a positive watershed moment in that (shamefully rushed) season.

I won't speak entirely for OP here, but I think I'm in the same boat with them. After the tease at the end of ep 9 to have a setback like this, the show is appearing to follow a very tried and true SJ romance formula.

Now, I think that it does a good job with the formula (it's a very watchable show), but I'm at the point where I want to see something that subverts that formula and gives me something fresh and original.

When I first started the show I was actually hoping that the sports anime + romance anime hybrid aspect was going to be the originality hook to keep me watching. But I've found the sports side to be quite lacking with hardly any matches being shown and the romance has been too meandering to pick up the slack.

Agreed with everything you said. It's barely passable as a romance, or even as a drama.

I wouldn't even say this show is too slow; speed is not the biggest problem. The problem is the fact that it's just so boring and uninteresting in its slowness.

Fruits Basket and Kaguya-sama both take ages before there's anything resembling "progress," but it's entertaining to watch them get there. There are a ton of ways to go about this; good dialogue, interesting characters, funny jokes, dramatic story developments, fun supporting characters, the stuff outside of romance, etc. Blue Box has none of these.

I really don't think this is a sports anime, either. Chihayafuru is another "sports/romance" hybrid I can think of, and while the romance side barely moves, it's mostly in the background, and the sports side of the show takes center stage and absolutely owns it in terms of excitement and depth. There's nothing interesting about Blue Box if you take out the romance.

I don't really understand how this show is so popular. There just... isn't much going on. I don't even hate it enough to drop it.
