For the majority of this show I though it was quite dull but this final arc was good and the developments at the end here were interesting. So it irks me that I'm left hanging right as my interest and investment is at its peak thus far. Should've been a 2 cour imo. Well, I guess Spring 2025 isn't too far away.

Loved the season but this split between them feels arbitrary and an awful cliffhanger. Like when romance anime force a misunderstanding trope. I really liked the show and I’ll definitely be back for season 2, but damn this ending leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

This was the best episode by far, finally moving the plot forward lol. But yeah the anime was boring like 70% of the episodes. The direction and animation was superb but too SLOW.

@BrettWatchesTV I don't know how you watched ep 9 and 10, then concluded that it was a misunderstanding. It's not, it's a full on revelation, up until that point, Kobato was still underestimating Osanai, only after that kidnap incident that he realizes how messed up she is. It's not a misunderstanding when she dead-on lied to him.

I think you should stick to your harem rom-com, given this is not up to your usual speed.

Was a good 2-part finish that sets up Season 2. Osanai really shined brighter in the final two episodes and I am curious on what the two new characters will bring to Season 2. What was that van explosion!?

Shoushimin was often punishingly boring and felt like a bait and switch from the premise that promised solving mysteries but actually they're just trying to figure out who ate a spicy sweet. The last few episodes were actually pretty decent though and before I would've rather had teeth pulled before watching a second season, but now that Osanai's been revealed as a total sociopath and they've broken off their friendship I'm kind of curious what will happen in season 2.

Awfull decision of mine to watch this edgy sh#t show.

I had liked Hyouka, but now im starting to think I only liked it due to watching it while younger.

6 episodes of what felt like useless edgy filler of solving mundane and stupid mysteries.

3 episodes of more interest where it feels like the show finally woke up.

1 last episode with cliffhanger for edgy f#cks.

Honestly, stopping in this episode is such a stupid decision, that I hope the 2nd season would just get cancelled for the atrocity this is. You wasted more than half of the time talking about useless stuff, to then drop a retarded bombshell and try to sell us again on watching a 2nd season.

At this point I dont know whats worse, the fact its 90% filler or the fact the author resorted to "ntr" as to try maybe progress the relationship.

Honestly man, please dont do Hyouka Season 2. Brother would probably sh#t it all up with edgy over dramatic retarded plots and a bit of your casual japanese fetish of getting cucked.

I only have 1 complaint for this show: the sudden change from flip phones to smartphones for the last arc of this season. Considering the time period this was supposedly set in, it made absolutely no sense at all and was so abrupt that I have to wonder if it was because the animators have no idea what flip phones look like (e.g. the different screens and functionalities of flip phones).

Other than that, I liked this. the VA for Osanai was great and felt like it fit quite well with her character. Feels like there was some pacing issue though with this last episode. It seems like the time management was not done well and they ended up with that half episode of extra time that they decided to use to setup the story of season 2 but the setup felt rushed... In my opinion, they could have slowed down a little with the pacing of the setup for season 2...

Even though it makes sense that Osanai wanted to keep their relationship for the sake of getting that girl in jail, it was such a lame conclusion to the overarching struggle of becoming ordinary. Especially on Kabato's side because he was unaware yet still continued this relationship. There was no gradual realization that they can't escape being their unordinary selves, just a sudden revelation at the very end.

I was also expecting Kobato to try to convince Osanai of maintaining their relationship when he first says that their relationship wasn't meaningless even if the original 'contract' was no longer effective. But Osanai just said "Nope" and he went along with it.

I do think that season 2 will be more interesting because now they're forced to be normal. But if they start throwing the main characters back into the detective drama from episode 1 instead of easing into it, it will be a drop from me.

Nooooooo they broke up?! I mean I guess Osanai has a point about them only being able to be normal without each other, since immediately after terminating their relationship both Kobato and Osanai got a peak into what being normal actually is (Kobato getting asked out and Osanai hanging out with a classmate after school)

Judging by that van from the kidnapping being set ablaze at the end of the episode tho, Imma assume their new normality will be short lived...

But more importantly WDYM THIS WAS THE LAST EPISODE???? And here I was expecting 2 more episodes!! I need a season 2 of this asap!!!!

This episode ties in the overall theme of the show and what it's like to be "ordinary". Between eating parfait and bonding, Osani and Kobato went through a lot this season imo. Didn't look that way at first on paper but the two made a lot of memories together.

Osani standing in the waters with her dress show how carefree she is.

It's an interesting finale imo as despite no real mystery, we got to see the show tie up from where it started.

Season 2 announced, April 2025

Wow, we really leaped from solving small mysteries to solving a kidnapping case and that too by Highschool girls??? And where did this wicked Osanai come from???? I mean she straight up planned a crime to get her middle school bullies arrested????? I don’t understand why they both had to part ways??? Was she only using him for her own means all this time????

This was a weird episode. So many new characters showing up out of the blue in the end. Honestly, though, it got me a little bit excited for Season 2 to see how everything’s gonna unfold.

What a crazy show.

Right from the start of the series Osanai is in deep with the manipulation. It's actually worth going back to skip around the first half of the show from the perspective of the later half. Something I only noticed because I looked back to see how the characters' attitudes changed throughout the series was that at the start of Ep.01 there's a girl from Osanai's previous class whom she hides from. I'm reasonably confident that girl is Osanai's accomplice for the kidnapping at the end (they look exceptionally similar, though not confirmed afaik).

Throughout the show Osanai is constantly baiting and pushing and manipulating Kobato towards an end. For example whenever he's about to get bored with one of those mundane mysteries she pushes it a little further, tosses out some false conclusions, or baits an answer, and gets him invested again. She may have been planning the conclusion of this series right from the start.

I get why people are little confused and miffed with how the series played out, but I promise you there's deeper meaning (as mundane or frustrating as those details may be) behind most of the Osanai / Kobato interactions if you're willing to do some digging. It's these little things like Osanai getting Kobato to eat and enjoy sweets despite his claims and protests in the early episodes how he doesn't like them. Nothing too crazy about a guy enjoying some cakes with a person he likes, but by the last episode, the last bite of the parfait has him grimace as if he just remembered he's not a fan of sweets. Crazy as it sounds but I think little dude may have even been twisted into enjoying sweets -- admittedly I could be over-reading the reaction.

Seemingly throughout the show Osanai is constant in her manipulation and conditioning of Kobato towards her end goal with nearly every interaction and it's terrifying. Every single thing Osani does is ultimately suspect.

Some folk were probably hoping to get Hyouka with some cute waifu material detective shenanigans and instead we got a potential masterclass in a manipulating, gaslighting, and absolutely terrifying yandere in Osanai. The slow realization as Kobato goes from infantilizing Osanai as something to be guided and protected to the realization that she's a mile ahead and has been toying with him this entire time is amazing.

Osanai is easily one of the best villains I've seen in a very long time.

And to the people who didn't enjoy this show I don't think you're entirely wrong either. There's a lot of show and don't tell with things left for us to infer which could have been done a lot better. For example the hot chocolate case in ep.02. We don't know if it was Osanai or the sister that prompted the investigation, but given the ending it seems likely Osanai pushed it. Osanai then goes on to give him looks of concern for getting into his detective mode, but I do suspect the doth lady protest too much -- especially given the end where she tries to equate his actions with hers and normalize their guilt. Dude helped some friends, solved the mystery of the missing mustard and magical hot chocolate while little yandere over there got two small time gangs arrested and at least one that we know of with trumped up charges.

By the end of season 2 I wouldn't be surprised if this show gets School Days wild -- more likely just some Holmes / Moriarty stuff -- but imagine how nice that boat would be...

P.S. I could be entirely off base with all of this and the show just really sucks. She was never meant to be a villain, the author honestly doesn't view framing and ruining the lives of multiple young adults (troubled as they may be) as some horrible crime, and the author and studio may honestly think they created a cute and quirky little potential waifu. It wouldn't be the first my dumbass tried spinning a story into something deeper.

I think anybody who has a slightly longer attention span than the average when it comes to gen Z or somebody into detective novels would have found this show to be simply amazing.

But alas that's not the norm when it comes to MAL users so a 7.32 sounds about right.
