The version "I saw the anime in the newcomer selection" got only one vote.

the most popular answer is "a friend suggested one to me"

that was my entire point. all these other ones are too random and scattered among hundreds of series.

but the popular suggestions are consistant.

EVEN IF the "suggested by someone" wasn't this popular of an option. satistically, it would still mean general new comer anime are the most common show that get people into anime.

The most popular "I watched anime since childhood and eventually matured for conscious viewing." There are twice as many votes as in the second and third places taken. Also at a solid fourth place is "I searched for content and found an anime on this topic". However, if you literally say "even if I was wrong, then I'm right," then ...

you don't get what i am saying. you are debating a point that is not at all what i am arguing.

first of all, i said "these days". so i'm not counting the childhood option.

my point is that, a random show that you watch is different for everyone.

yours is what slayers? mine was freezing.

neither of these are common first shows. they are specific to us.

even if 80% of the community started with a "random show they found by accident"

that 80% would be split across too many series, for any single one of those shows to get more people into anime, that the shows from "anime starter pack".

The main topic of our argument was my claim that most people watched the first conscious anime either by accidental exposure to anime or by watching random anime as a child, versus your claim that most people now watch anime due to anime recommendations for beginners, because people know what is anime and looking for the tops of the best anime for beginners in advance. The survey also showed that the main recommendations come from anime-watching friends who were not motivated by you, while the majority started watching anime either through searching for topics of interest, or thanks to shows they accidentally found. Watching anime since childhood is subjective, since we don't know how many people who voted started watching anime recently, but the largest is expected. One way or another, you can relate to the advice of a friend in any way, but this is clearly not something that "found recommendations for beginners." Judging by the poll, people generally trust random experience more than other people's recommendations.

thats where you are wrong, i was never arguing that.

from the very start i was saying show like "death note, one punch man or aot" are the most popular shows that get people into anime.

you can go check from the start. this is what i have been saying this entire time.

That was the essence of our argument. The shows mentioned only served as a trigger as at the beginning of the sitcom episode, since I said that these shows are too classic for today's viewers, maybe with the exception of Aot. To which you replied that people will still start with the classics, since this is what they recommend the most. In this context, I can still partially agree, since the metaphysical "friend" will most likely actually recommend one of the classic shows.

yes, but the misuderstanding is where you were talking about "every show that you find accidently" vs "every classic suggestion"

Well, it would be a lie to deny that people often recommend the classics first, but nevertheless, I still insist that the most prominent in anime media will continue to be the most recent and hyped. For example, I'm sure that those who started watching Gundam now will most likely do it through G-Witch, even if there are many disappointed fans around you who advise you to watch only UC.

you're completely right, but as i said before too, tbe reason recent shows fall short of classics, is because their hype is short lived.

but yes, the most "got people into anime" show of each season is the most popular show of that season.

its just that, that is short lived. while the said classics are getting fairly a consistant number of people into anime no matter what show is trending at that given moment.

@APolygons2 Well, personally, I usually try to make recommendations based on people's personal expectations rather than what's popular or classic. Although sometimes a classic or hyped seasonal show is the best option. For example, I personally find it hard to come up with something better than Oshi no Ko and True Blue in response to a dark anime about the underside of show business.

i mean yeah obviously. i feel like we who have seen hunderds of titles, kind of need to do that.

having so many options and still just picking the popular one without giving it thought would make us terrible at suggesting stuff lol

It wasn't an accident tho, since my mother said "This is made in Japan, they are delivering the best animation"...which is weird since she haven't watched anime at that point and never became an anime fan.
Someone else should've recommend it to her beforehand. Maybe this counts as "An anime friend advised me...".
