weak animation again but its still good enough

cool that Gabimaru is not a total pacifist he can kill for the sake of self defense for example necessary evil stuff

interesting that Sagiri have a great fear on killing people but she is a executioner that wants to achieve a painless killing method for the sake of her victims being executed by her

anyway Sagiri and Yuzuriha are sexy hot

Weak animation? You watched this with your eyes closed?

This episode has been amazing too! We got introduced to the new characters and we also get to see Sagiri's past and why she chose to be an assassin.

I can't wait to see next episode to see what we find, they are settling the perfect scenario for a perfect adventure.

I love it, and I love her conflict with being an executioner. But what I don't understand at all, she saw ALL that, she saw that he's not like the rest, doesn't want to kill and only did when he had too and holds sooo much guilt. But then she's like "I'll kill him". She had trouble killing guilty bad men but now she's all sold on killing a guy who doesn't want to kill? Hopefully that will change, but I don't feel like that was the conclusion she should have come to and being like yeah I'll kill this guy..

Aside from that AMAZING episode, love the music, the theme, the VAs, everything. And that was some of the best water I've ever seen.

The animation feels a bit stiff sometimes, especially the characters reactions and facial movements, but the scene where Gabimaru just go full psychopath was handled well enough, overall I like how brutal this anime is, and I like both Gabimaru and Sagiri, it was nice to see a little bit more about her, a bit edgy ngl but quite fun to watch.

Interesting way of introducing the psychos that Gabimaru is going to be with. Also, I like how they are humanizing the executioners as they understand the depth of their job.

Poor Sagiri wanted to follow in his father's footsteps as a executioner of the Yamada clan, but is traumatized with the fear of taking someone's life. That fear continues to eat away at her soul causing her to hesitate whenever she draws her sword. It was only a matter of time before Gabimaru made the the ocean shores run red with bloody corpses and I loved every minute of it. Perhaps monitoring Gabimaru is what Sagiri needs to shape her resolve and steel herself for battle. Now that the criminals have been reduced to a sizable number, the expedition into the island called paradise can begin.

I always appreciate to get more insight on a character and this time it was no difference with Sagiri. Because she was born into the Asaemon family, she will never have the opportunity for a normal life, since any activity within the family is related to death. Nonetheless it's heartbreaking to see a child getting bullied by other kids due to the fathers work.

Back in the present a pretty big group is gathered before the shogun, to inform them about the upcoming trip the island and what they're actually have to acquire in order to receive the official pardon. Being confronted with one of the "survivors" and the blooming disease which infested his body the mood changed rapidly. Even while shocked by such an sight reclining the shoguns request is no option, since you're simply getting killed otherwise. Any of the criminals gets assigned with a monitor in form of a member of the Asaemon family. To make things even worse in the case that the monitor dies, whether by accident or homicide you'll be beheaded and if you're monitor isn't with you, you're not allowed to return to the boat which is kinda crazy.

Since the capacity of the ship is limited, the criminals had to reduce their number. And so the slaughter began. It was already brutal, but my god, Gabimaru lifted the brutality to whole new level. Naturally the selection process was accelerated significantly until 10 people remained. On a more positive note Sagiri learned that it wasn't her missing strength not to fear killing but rather the resolve to take the burden of that fear of the lives she took. That should help her drastically in the future, that is, if she makes it back alive.

And so the journey begins into the hellish paradise. Can't wait to see what awaits us in the next episode.

Brutal episode with that little culling game they had. I like Gabimaru's refreshingly realistic way of thinking. He hates killing but if someone tries to do it to him then it's on. It's funny how the mobs assumed he was some turn-the-other-cheek pacifist shit just because he said killing is wrong. "What do you mean you're going to defend yourself?!" lmao get rekt this not Vash the stampede

What was the point of this being R rated when they censor the nudity scenes for this?! I'm pretty sure in the manga it wasn't which I did see some myself, but damn gore is apparently okay for Mappa.... well okay...

That was stupid... Hey, how about the three of us just jog over to that female executioner armed with a katana (not being sly about it at all as we're running towards her) and kill her so that we could escape our death sentence, it's not like the other two executioners surrounding her (or any others in that area) would intervene afterwards to kill us. What?

That episode was very underwhelming. We're supposed to feel sympathy for the female executioner because she's struggling with killing people? Wtf? And that Gabimaru scene was very cliche. He's the ultra smooth and uncaring guy who apparently doesn't want to kill people but at the end of the episode is forced to when someone is ordered to kill him, but rather than just killing that one guy sent after him he then proceeds to kill 10 other people without a second thought. It makes no sense. One moment he's objecting to killing anyone, and then a minute later he's slaughtering everyone.

Sagiri went from impassive cold beauty to nervous mess in the span of one episode. Not a fan of such jarring and sudden change in her personality but well.

OK episode, I guess. More than half of its runtime was violence for the sake of violence so there wasn't much value to see there but at least, Sagiri's backstory was decent enough. Those shots of her naked felt oddly fanservice-y tho. Especially when the sequence is repeated three times in one single episode.

I gotta say, I'm really curious as to when this gets good because I've heard good things about the manga and this has been pretty underwhelming so far. None of the characters or beats have freed themselves from the shackles of cliche yet. It isn't all bad, this episode had great animation and Sagiri's epiphany was a genuinely great moment (it's just such a shame it was the only strong character beat in the 24 minute episode). I know this is adapting a manga, but as someone who is watching this show and judging the writing on its own merits having not read the source material, I think it would have been possible to combine episodes 1 and 2 into a single, more concise episode. I'm holding out hope the sloppiness is just for the setup, as it seems that the island is the main focus of the series. Though I will say, I'm starting to sense similarities between shows like Tower of God and God of Highschool both in terms of the quality of the writing and in how hyped up they were at the start of their seasons. I really do hope I'm wrong in that observation, I never want a series to be bad. But having failed to grab be 2 episodes in isn't a good sign.

Also: if the whole point of sending condemned criminals is because the island is too dangerous, why are they sending the executioners (who are strong enough to be expected to be able to kill their assigned prisoner) too? That's wasting more (and presumably more valuable) lives. If they're being sent, why bother with the criminals in the first place? If it was just the executioners, they wouldn't be distracted, having to watch over some rogue element. Is this story contrivance the lapse of logic I think it is or am I missing something?

I am really loving Gabimaru's character right now, he thinks killing's wrong, but when pushed, "Aww shucks, guess I have to kill you now." All for the wife. Gabimaru's fighting style is so sick and brutal.

Really interesting to see as well how Sagiri really felt about being an executioner, she wants to become like her father, but she lacks the cold heartedness for being an executioner. Let's see how things change from this point onward though, now that she saw a different perspective from Gabimaru, by having the resolve to carry the burden of killing all these people, criminal or not. Sagiri's great, looking forward for more developments to their characters.

Yuzuriha though, my Lord.

I'm saying there doesn't seem to be any logical reason to send the prisoners in the first place then. If there's any concern one of them would drink the juice, why not just execute them and send in a team of trustworthy people (which they are already doing). It's needlessly adding an uncertainty into the situation so that the plot can happen, so it feels contrived.

It's actually unfortunate. Well, the majority of them do so to 'stand out from the rabble': if a lot of people like a series, then I must be real special since I can look beyond the fluff and break it down for the simple show that it is.

And then they go ahead to watch the entire thing anyway.

Why would I spend my time watching shows I don't like? 💢

Lol you do know that the shogun commanded to send expendable people in the first place, the Asaemons are just a failsafe if anyone tries to do something suspicious then they will kill them, we can also see from this episode how greedy and creepy the shogun he does not care about other people's lives so he wants the elixir no matter the cost by rewarding them with pardon as people want to free themselves , the criminals will act fast to obtain the elixir so they can be freed, it's like a bait for criminals so that the shogun can receive the immortality granting elixir quickly. Also they already sent 60 people beforehand and only one returned alive within whom flowers are growing, do you even pay attention to the episodes before complaining lmao

I can't recall seeing so many beheadings in one episode before, damn. Gabimaru's killings were brutal but he had to do what he had to do. Meanwhile Sagiri will be watching over Gabimaru on the island but I wonder if Gabimaru will end up protecting her. Looking forward to the island episodes which I think will be more like hell than heaven.
