loved it but the fucking cgi in the performance...
i havent watched any band anime other than k on but it seems there isn't a single one without cgi during performances, it sucks

Search up "God Knows - Haruhi Suzumiya" KyoAni rotoscoped the entire performance.

Another wholesome episode with them preparing for the audition.
Looks like Bocchi had a lot of self understanding in this episode, especially with what her main aims will be going forward.
Glad to see their work pay off, and them nailing the audition.

Well, in fairness it took six episodes in K-ON! And Mio had to fall on her face afterward.

Man, this show reminds me a lot of Gunball's kind of humour, and I just can't get enough of it.

Brilliant direction, it's easy to notice how much love has been put into this project.

This show continues to surpass my expectations and have me at a loss for words. Not just from its already stellar and transcendent aesthetic display, but also its very solid and consistent narrative in terms of consistent comedy, character realization, and story progression...something I feel like most other similar shows really lack in that regard. This episode is perhaps the best so far in terms of encompassing and balancing everything about this series so far. The music is great here with a nice balance of melody and complementary lyrics; it feels like genuinely something I would listen to on a whim whenever I feel like just chilling out at home or going out and about. There's an identity to our main group beyond just the cute girls' gimmick, they stand out much more as individuals here, which is made more apparent with the highlight on Nijika this time around (HOLY HELL THAT EXPRESSIVE AND FLUID ANIMATION IN THAT ONE SCENE WITH HER, just encompasses her entire character without needing extra words or whatnot). I also really liked how Bocchi really contemplated about the meaning of "growth" and how it can have different meanings, as well as how far she's come even though it's only been a relatively short time since they became a group, and she expresses wanting to help her new friends achieve their own dreams while she's at it. There's still a long way to go, of course. Even the manager Seika turns out much more than just a cardboard cutout despite her initially touch demeanor. Good on her for giving that beloved group that needed push.

That audition performance was extremely well animated and feels so full of life, as if I'm right there myself watching them perform, all thanks to the notable recurring talents from CloverWorks; in this case it was Yusuke Kawakami, a very exceptional key animator. The cinematography of this series continues to amaze me, especially during that performance. I am still really enjoying the comedy in this series thanks to the visual creativity and it doesn't feel too redundant or exhausting like with many other comedy-centered series I've watched in the past. Barring any god forbidden dropouts, this is not just easily AOTY for me hands down, it's also easily a top favorite of mine (could get into my top 10 all time if it maintains this sort of quality and continues to surpass its source material).

Also, yes, it's way better than K-On! at this point, as much as I do still really adore that series personally.

well, that one nijika scene proved that a picture is indeed worth a thousand words! loved this episode, especially their performance!

... its hard with shows like these. You see, the whole gig, the whole identity of this anime is Bocchi being an alien incapable of any sort of basic social interaction, and sequential funny gag moments we can make out of it. And thats it, thats the whole thing. And you can't possibly have Bocchi getting more socially brave, cause you'll lose the whole point of the show.

Dude, for Christ Sake, it took them five episodes to show us them actually playing a song, in this supposedly music anime, lol.

Soo... You skipped the OP, the 1st ED, the 2nd ED, the story of their struggle with training and all, the improvement that Bocchi and her band achieve, how Bocchi is introvert but still want to improve herself, How the writer wants to inform us about the comedy sides of teenage girl wanting to became a professional band? Go watch Aikatsu if you just want a music in each episode.

anyway, amazing episode. It was only for a short while, but Bocchi was able to use her true skills .. something that Nijika and her older sister noticed.

looking forward to next week.

I'm just gonna say it. Bocchi the Rock is slowly becoming my generation's K-on. I completely missed the K-on era but I loved the show (took me 2 year to realize it tho). Every episode so far is just getting better and better! Definitely one of my favorite show this year.

This time, the first live scene was drawn in the work, but I personally think that the degree of perfection was very high. Regarding "Guitar to Kodoku to Aoi Hoshi" which was performed live ,it was written by Bottchi,
but it was not as dark as I thought. The gap that Kita-chan sang that was the best. Because this anime is based on the band activities of high school girls, it is often compared to K-ON!, which aired in the past. In addition, the use of CG in some of the live scenes gives it a different flaver from the hand-drawn K-ON!. I`m looking forword to next time.

Dude, Bocchi may have social anxiety and stuff but Nijika's sister totally sucks at communicating with others. Seriously, what a pain of a person.

That said, this ended up being an excellent episode. The song was great and the same can be said about Bocchi's lyrics. Really loved the performance, all in all.

By the way, the scene with Bocchi running to meet the others after having talked with Seika was animated so exaggeratedly I almost died from laughter. God bless this direction.

Was talking to a friend who used to be the lead guitar and vocalist for a band and he said it was pretty neat to finally see an anime where the characters are actually play the instruments properly. Like, the drummer drums how a drummer would drum and the guitarist's fingers move along the fret board to play the right notes with properly-timed strums. Yeah, the animation in this show is like top tier. Haven't seen an episode of Chainsaw Man yet tbh so idk how the animation compares against it, but for me, Bocchi the Rock! has the best animation this season. Chef's KISS

everything was great but the 3d for the performance felt lifeless, also having such a different singer versus the voice actor for the red girl was quite a jarring change. i loved everything else in the show as I have been, but i hope there isn't too many performances if they're going to be this choppy

I give this studio so many brownie points for being able to accurately animate the instruments. Such a cool detail. It would be one thing to be this creative in the jokes and interjects and flop on making the performance feel real, but they went the extra mile and did accurately portray it. Favorite show this season by a mile.

I would have preferred rotoscoping over CGI for the performance scene... but hey... the music was phenomenal and the animation is so great everywhere else so I won't complain too much. It just looked a little bit :/

There is an interview about the whole process, but it goes like this. They used actors to play the instruments -> Used CG to get different angles -> They draw over them. It looks odd for the same reason CSM looks odd, it is a rather strong switch that put emphasis on their stiffness, but it is not really CGI

Really creative

I'm baffled why real life imagery isn't used more often in anime, full props to this team for actually doing it. The dam break got the most attention (overwhelming majority being positive) from i could see.

This series definitely has a lot of examples of creative cinematography, the director went above and beyond in adapting a 4-panel gag manga. I wish more gag manga adaptations were as good as this, honestly.

I wish the director was put on some more well know anime before now but honestly this might do it.
