I literally explained why I didn't elaborate. And then I even gave a proper elaboration on my criticism in the form of my review. But you are just acting like a child covering your eyes and ears and refusing to actually listen cause you've already decided that you won't accept any criticism. You seem to embody the average Solo Leveling fan. Refusing to accept any criticism that isn't calling it a masterpiece. And no wonder the manhwa gets so overhyped when they have fans like this.

Bros every sentence is ClASsIc SoLo LeveLing FaN, avArAge SL FAn, EvEry Sl Fan BeHaVe LiKe ThiS hu hu he he. Bro why u so mad who hurt u. I said I wont accept YOUR criticism even before u sent whole this "elaboration" so you cant go with that Im now covering my eyes and ears blah blah shit. I literally discussed with many people in this thread so your point that Im like a scared child doesnt make sanse. One and only problem here is your lack of intellect to be at the same level as those people

This is the average interaction I tend to have with those fans. You're just reinforcing it. They tend to find some dumb excuse to dismiss criticism and then they do everything in their power to avoid any further criticism, like you're doing by simply deciding to dismiss everything I have to say even before I get a chance to elaborate. That's in no way shape or form something a person who has had "serious discussions" would do. Look no further than the OP literally saying criticism is "forced". This is the vast majority of Solo Leveling fans. They don't have the capacity to hear criticism.

So yes, my point that you're acting like a scared child is absolutely logical. I at least gave it a shot to have a reasonable discussion in which I give you exactly what was expected in order to have a "serious discussion". But of course you insisted on being childish, behaving like "nuh uh, I already decided I won't listen to you". I am fine if you don't want to hear my criticism then. But as much as you like to peddle the "no one will take you seriously" statement. I can just say, no one will take you nor Solo Leveling fans seriously after they see how you behave in response to criticism.

Ok, I saw solid amount of Solo Leveling hate during time especially now that anime is announced, so I have few questions. When you found SL first time, it literally tells you what it's about in the title itself, ☆Solo Leveling☆, yeah its about mc's solo leveling, if you didn't like such a concept where the protagonist becomes stronger and stronger and beats everyone in cool fights, why would you even start reading it. People hate it like its supposed to be something else? It literally is what its supposed to be. With time, specificially after first 15-20 chapters, it establishes it's video game concept, where you have MC leveling up, buying items, upgrading, clearing dungeons, finding out about lore of the game, etc etc. Yeah everything such a concept needed, Solo Leveling done it pretty good. Now why all of the hate, people expected it to be something else or? It's like, yes I dont like that concept but I will still read it for the sake of hating something. It is same as If I dont like basketball, but I watch some random game of it and say its trash becouse players score points by shooting ball with hands trought hoop🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️I really dont understand this, yeah I dont claim that Solo Leveling is best thing ever, but it simply done right almost everything it needed to do right, it fullfiled its name to the fullest.

In my opinion i don't think solo is a show that deserves the hype ,but at the same time i don't feel that it deserves the hate also

It's a decent generic power scaling fantasy graphic novel

I wish it wasn't like that as the first 7-8 chapters were really good ,but after that the tension in the story drops
It drops to such an extent that even sword art online second season is way more watchable tense than this

Atleast in SAO, kirito had to go through a lot

Solo appeals to those people who wants cool fights and never loses sort of drill

It works well if solo was your first graphic novel, but if you are like me who read quality as well as mid ,this is just plain simple story

A 7/10 suits the scoring

Oh yes characters in OPM are much better, my man Garou, while all other kids said they wanted to be heroes, he said he wanted to be villain, and that same flashback of him saying it repeated 928 times and successfully convinced you that he is good character, sad. You cant compare villains in those two, bc villains in SL had actual origin, Rulers and Monarchs lore, everything was explained about them and everything made sanse. Yeah also why OP protagonist that can beat anyone without struggle needed to actually dont go in some dungeons because he knew he would be beat up, and waited to get stronger for them, hmm?? Also comedic/parody shit in OPM ended after battle with Boros that can confirm everyone who read it and people who actually likes it agreed with that, so your point doesnt make sanse. In SL u at least knew from where powers come and how characters acquired skills tools and everything whille in OPM every character get his power from ass and nothing is explained, like i said OPM is nothing more then mindless fighting with powers coming directly from ass against monsters that hate humans because they hate them, with bland characters that didnt get better with those bland backstories like you think they did.

OPM doesn't take itself seriously. All the characters have ridiculous backstories but what they have that SL doesn't is a fucking personality.
Sung Jin-woo's character is so predictable and he has the personality equivalent to a piece of paper. He does anything that might seem cool and badass to the SL fans but that just makes him have no personality.
Because each character in OPM have a distinct personality it makes the character dynamics significantly more entertaining which I didn't feel reading SL.
The parody never ended, it was always a parody. Yes it rarely becomes lighthearted in the recent chapters but it's still a parody. It's like Gintama which is also a parody but will occasionally add more serious toned arcs in the story.
Sung Jin-woo is overpowered, in the sense that he does everything perfectly. Never was there a point that I felt like he was struggling and he easily demolished any sort of enemy that he faced. Saitama is definitely more overpowered in OPM's storyline than Jin-woo but that's not a bad thing because unlike SL, OPM constantly shifts focus to different characters. The story evolves to something more than it was and even then at the end it came back to what it originally was.
What I mean by that is how the story shifted focus to these characters like Garou but eventually he was lead to clash against Saitama. With SL however, things just got more ridiculous and out of hand, which all lead to that rushed and disappointing conclusion.
Garou is easily more interesting than any character in SL imo and if you want to believe that OPM is a bland story with bland characters and it's only good for it's action, then sure go ahead but idk why you'd be accusing me of hating SL just to hate it because if I did, I'd have hated OPM too due to how popular it is.

I agree with almost everything you're saying. I would also like to add that Saitama has an actual personality. It feels dumb that I would even have to praise something like this, but Saitama has actual emotions. He smiles, laughs, gets angry, nervous and sad. This feels like it should be a given for a character, but apparently not. And he is not a Gary Stu unlike Sung Jin Woo. Despite being the strongest character by far. He still makes mistakes. I remember that one gag of him not even being able to kill a small fly. And as you mentioned, the focus on other characters keeps the fights actually suspenseful. And spoiler for chapter 169 of One Punch Man
OPM actually succeeds in having an OP MC story that's still engaging, suspenseful and with interesting characters. Solo Leveling's side-characters gets introduced and then pretty much tossed aside immediately, never to be seen again. In OPM we actually stick with these side-characters for the vast majority of the story. Like Genos being introduced in chapter 5 or Tatsumaki, Metal Bat and Silver Fang being introduced in chapter 20-30. Yet they are still present and relevant in the story 150+ chapters later. In Solo Leveling, we have for instance Esil. Who was introduced in one of the arc and worked with Sung Jin Woo and helped him literally get the item that would cure his mother. After he got it he was just like "Bye" and then left her before she even had a chance to say anything, never to be seen again. One would think he would at least have slightly more appreciation towards her for helping save his mother's life.

PS: I saw that you also got hit with the "I cAnT tAkE u SeRiOuSlY" from OP. I'm gonna make a reasonable assumption and say he's just trolling. Cause that seems to be his response to anyone that isn't mindlessly agreeing with him.

Perfectly fine and I respect ur opinion. I have nothing against people like you who are reasonable and know something about what they are talking about, I just cant stand mindless haters that just trash on series, not just SL, every other. I agree also that objecitvely we can give solo leveling much lower score bc its not masterpiece or anything like that, my score is just high bc I really like it subjectively and Im big fan of a series, but that has nothing to do with objective quality of the series. Btw if u want u can suggest me some other manhwas that u think are good so I can give them a read later

I cant find anything u mentioned in chapter 46 but I found similar thing in chapter 45 with SJW saying "That means the beasts I summon will level up with me as well, I wont be leveling up by myself". Well yes he now have his shadows but he is still solo leveler, why? Because shadows are his weapons, like sword or dagger, he got the class that would let him get the shadows in his army AFTER HE DEFEAT THEM. Those shadows level up with him, they only become stronger because of his work and his leveling and they only do what he tells them. So yes shadows are just weapons that can level up like sword and dagger can level up and be someones weapons. If this breaks concept of solo leveling then SJW was not solo leveler from the start because he used weapons like daggers. And yes you can have standars without shitting on the series thanks

Yeah that is in fact why I dont think its objectively 10/10 or 9/10 or idk some high score manhwa, it has its flaws and its perfectly fine if u cant bear with those flaws. Yeah side characters are definietly one of the things that could be sooo much better done, but every series has its flaws, some things are done good some worse, so I dont think that justifies trashing on manhwa and calling it shit

Yeah, sure, if you do the mental gymnastics of treating characters as tools, the it will never not be solo leveling, technically. Dude literally has army at his command but sure, totally solo.

Characters? Bruh they didnt have any personality or any "CHARACTER" when they were his shadows, except some of them said smt like "Yes, master" on SJWs commands.Ur point would make sanse if they could think for themselves or do things on their own but SJW needed to control/command them for anything. I see you never played any type of games like this, u literally have so many characters in many games that can spawn monsters or some shit like that and use them in 1v1 fights, so what now? These gamey developers are stupid because it is not 1v1 anymore like u say, now its 100 vs 1, its so unbalanced why they dont remove it from the games, why players dont report it, hmmm???
I guess we'll never know XD

Yes, they are actually characters. Absorbed through the MCs power, sure, but they seem to have retained some resemblance of personality. Well, as far as Solo Leveling goes with personality. Some are nameless mobs, sure. But not all of them.

Are you actually implying solo leveling in any way employs the concept of balancing and fairness? It only takes some cool-looking stuff from gaming, it doesn't care about any actual gaming mechanics - certainly not mechanics of what would be a multiplayer game. Of couse summoning an army is OP.

Overlord did this much better.

Because it's a garbage series based solely on fancy action scenes and hype elements.

It offers nothing but a good artstyle and overpowered mc being overpowered. Plot falls flat, characters are nothing but npcs and pacing sucks. Mc levels up, there is a problem, mc arrives at the scene, cool battle scenes throughout several chapters, npcs' goes "mc is very op, cool" mc saves the day and levels up more. Cycle continues.

i enjoyed it, but I would have not enjoyed it if weren't for the art, I'm the kind of guy who likes character development, but not when they suddenly change over night, the story is also mediocre, again no hate just my opinion, people who hate on stuff are idiots, just tell the people your opinion respectively and go on with your life

I generally thought this would be a thought-provoking story but no

MAL scores are stupid

Ok, I saw solid amount of Solo Leveling hate during time especially now that anime is announced, so I have few questions. When you found SL first time, it literally tells you what it's about in the title itself, ☆Solo Leveling☆, yeah its about mc's solo leveling

The thing is that once he gets his Shadow powers , he's not solo anymore , and that's not what peoples were expecting at first , especially with the prologue chapters.

With time, specificially after first 15-20 chapters, it establishes it's video game concept, where you have MC leveling up, buying items, upgrading, clearing dungeons, finding out about lore of the game, etc etc. [...] Now why all of the hate, people expected it to be something else or?

But the first 15-20 chapters , when he's in the secret dungeon , had this horror/thriller feels , with a weak MC trying to do his best to survive , and it's exactly what it could have been all the way.
But for some reason , the scenario decide to makes him OP , cutting off this path about a MC struggling to "Solo Level".

It is same as If I dont like basketball, but I watch some random game of it and say its trash becouse players score points by shooting ball with hands trought hoop

To me , it felt as if i was watching a Football match , and at the break , the players suddenly decided to play Basketball.
It's also the feedback a lot of peoples had when the Manhwa first came out.

I dont claim that Solo Leveling is best thing ever

But a lot of fans do it , and it cause a lot of peoples to hate the serie because of that.
This man is dumb everyone ignore his claims

The concept of a gigachad is much to hard for a beta male like you to comprehend, do not worry it is pretty typical that beta males have trouble with most things.

Whats annoyed me most during it was the hyping up of fights that went nowhere. There's no problem for me with some absolute stomps in the story, but to give an example, the story spend a solid 10~15 chapters jerking Thomas off for his strength. We have a lot of setup that allows the fight to happen, reasons for *why* it's happening, and then we get to the actual fight.

Jin-Woo makes one half-assed passing comment about "oh he's strong", they make a big deal out of his transformation, and then he proceeds to get fucking whooped with Jin-Woo sustaining no damage or even using the Shadows... and that just rubbed me the wrong way. If people enjoy it, fine, but wasn't my cup of tea.

Honestly my favorite part of the story was the early fights, specially against the assassin.

@09424828725 Sadly that's how it is. They might sound open minded like "Why is it getting so much criticism, I genuinely want to know". But they don't want to know. What they actually want is other people coming in and saying how it doesn't deserve criticism, they're just haters, contrarians and so on and so forth. They just want validation that they're in the right. When they don't get that, they get very upset. Just look at OP's comments in response to people giving criticism. It's just immediate deflect or dismissal. Not even an attempt to understand the opposition even though he made an entire thread for it.

Okay but just because the title of the story explains what the story is gonna be about doesn’t mean that the story is necessarily good just because it doesn’t lie to you. If that were the case then every anime and manga that comes along nowadays where it’s title is super long and specific would be an a-tier story, no? Just because it doesn’t lie to you? This is coming from someone who doesn’t hate Solo Leveling, I think its fine for the power trip and was a fun read but to say it’s a 10/10 story just because the title doesn’t lie is absurd. It has many flaws in story telling and god the character development is awful. The pacing falls apart toward the end, and there were so many story trails that were hinted at throughout the story that just didn’t go anywhere. It all feels very shallow and seems like a story to attract younger crowds with cool art and an edgy mc, but I don’t hate it, it’s fun and has great art.

I can recognize the good and bad parts but to disregard the bad parts and only focus on the good when making an objective review on a story shows a lot of bias. It can be a 10/10 for you but that doesn’t mean it is a 10/10 objectively (as much as a story can be judged objectively) just because the title doesn’t lie to you. I mean it’s like saying people can’t complain about shows like Goblin Slayer because the show is literally about that: a guy slaying goblins. Or saying people can’t judge a show like “Full Dive: This Ultimate Next-Gen Full Dive RPG Is Even Shittier than Real Life!” because the title tells you exactly what the show is gonna be about. I mean I love Full Dive because its hilarious but even I can recognize that it is very flawed and has shit pacing but I can enjoy it despite people “hating” on it, the same way I can enjoy the dopamine hits from Solo Leveling despite its many flaws. No one will defend Full Dive though, it’s just because Solo Leveling is popular people will defend it as a definitive 10/10.

@RaptorSatan666 I never said its a 10/10 story, idk where you got that from? I literally never mentioned something like that but ok. Second - My point wasnt what you are talking about. My point was that people who hate solo leveling BECAUSE its about badass protagonist who slowly beats everyone in fights doesnt make sense, because its the point of the story described in the name of the manhwa. So no , i didnt say that people must like it because it is doing what is written in the title, I said its nonsensical to hate it because it is doing what is written in the title. For example, if the reason people hated Goblin Slayer was because there was a slayer who hunted zombies for whole plot, that wouldnt make sense, just like it doesnt make sense to hate solo leveling because its only about protagonist solo leveling and beating everyone. My post was directed towards only those people with arguments like "solo leveling is bad because its only badass protagonist beating everyone for 150 chapters" not towards people who are like "story is not good, side characters are not good, etc etc"

@rxseee

But your whole point about Solo Leveling's title is terrible. Titles are often vague and can never tell you everything about a story. How can you be sure if a title is even being honest? Do people complain that halfway through Attack on Titan they stop attacking titans? Do they whine and say that the title lied to them? No, that's incredibly dumb. People literally do complain that Goblin Slayer is boring for that exact reason, and instead of dismissing that with your terrible reasoning, you should actually form a coherent rebuttle about why you disagree and love that he only kills goblins.

Even if I was given your exact interpretation of what that means (one character gets stronger throughout the story), does that mean there can't be interesting, relevant side characters? Does that mean we can't have in-depth worldbuilding and a compelling plot with multiple twists and turns? No, all the title said was that one guy will get stronger. It never told me that that one guy will be incredibly boring and shallow and that he's the only one going to be given any focus.

When fans gas up a series, people are naturally going to jump onto the hype train thinking it's good. Just accept that some of them will be disappointed and try to accept that that's part of life. Not everyone is going to cave in to your dumb reasoning and justifications.

My hate for the anime is because of the very bad adaptation they did of the original story, the way the story is organized in the anime sucks, the MC looks weird and many of the interactions are very awkward.
Early on, they decided to show details of characters that only matter up ahead and show information that makes the story confusing as it doesn't matter right now... As a fan of the novel and mainly manhwa, I'm so incredibly disappointed with this anime... The MC even looks weird... He's supposed to gradually become colder and colder, but they almost didn't put that in the anime, he looks way too emotional..... I hope the next season is better? I'm so diappointed, I feel like screaming at the director that ruined my absolute favorite story....

You're joking right? What cool fights? You mean the art makes the fight flashy? The fights are so repetitive and uncreative.

You're lying. You think Crap Leveling is the best story to have ever existed. I mean, it's pretty obvious, seeing you defending Crap Leveling with your life. You bat every critisism away by saying i CaNt TaKe YoU SeRiOuSlY.

And let me just ask you a simple question. Answer it honestly. Would you like crap leveling if it had art like this? No, you wouldn't. You know that you wouldn't. Don't lie to yourself, you would have never liked crap leveling if it didn't have the art it has. So stop lying to yourself and admit that crap leveling is a generic power fantasy that has a trash ending.

It seems like the criticism of Solo Leveling often comes from people expecting something different from what the manhwa actually aims to deliver. You're totally right—the title "Solo Leveling" is a huge giveaway of what the story is about: a protagonist leveling up solo, getting stronger, and defeating enemies in cool, increasingly epic battles. The core of the story is exactly that: a power fantasy where we get to see Jinwoo rise from being weak to becoming one of the most powerful individuals in his universe, and it does so in a flashy, video game-inspired way.
