damn, prod ig actually stepped up their game this episode; the anime doesn't look lifeless anymore. here's hoping it stays this way for the rest of the cour. For everyone confused/intrigued about the switch to fullback and not midfield, this is not a spoiler but I'll put the tag anyway the explanation regarding that is VERY late in the manga but the journey up to that point is worth it. WVM said: em_doubleyou said: wait 13eps covered 60 chaptersWVM said: em_doubleyou said: bro pls can you tell me which upto which chapter is ep 13 adapted ? plss manAs a manga reader, i've been waiting for that bomb to drop! And what a bomb that was. Keep your head up Ashito! What I didn't expect was the new opening. Such gorgeous visuals! Even the matches seem to have more movement, if a little. Did they allocate their budget / resources more for the 2nd cour? We'll have to wait and see. ye, they skipped a lot of exposition regarding soccer and tactics, best read around chapter 46 when the first B team match is about to start. |

So finally Ashito will be left back! A rather surprising choice given that it will be necessary to defend, who does not know. At worst, I thought who will be attacking midfielder or winger. Even that, he would still have grumbled. It's center forward or nothing! I also really like the new opening and ending! |

Oh wow, i thought Ao Ashi get a week break, like a certain sport anime from the same season and day. But nope, the journey of Ashito continue with a cruelty coming up directly from his trusted man! Shit. Coach Fukuda just be cruel right in the end, after such a happy time Aoi got on the first-half, especially since he said something that normal people will surely get a permanent mental breakdown with that.... Still, considering how Aoi still have a lot of supports coming up from his left and right, and don't ever forget to mention about there's a one hell of a cute supporters that Prod.IG decided to make her as a star of the ed theme song. Will become a good fuel for him to motivated again to play soccer. Then, don't be afraid, Aoi, lets make a good turning point from now and so on! |

Damn, I could tell something was going to wrong for Ashito when he was in the clubhouse with Fukuda with how happy and grateful he was being but I wasn't expecting Fukuda to drop such a bomb on him, it might have been better to tell him his level as a forward isn't good enough but telling him he's never going to make it as a forward must be so scarring since his existence up until now has been all about it being a forward. I can understand why Date looked so torn the when speaking to Fukuda about it, he seemed like he'd be the strict and ruthless kind but he actually really cares about his players and it seems like Fukuda is actually the one who will do anything for what he aims for just like how he brought Ashito to the team without letting him know of his real intentions. It's sad how this episode ends like that when in the game Ashito ended up doing very well although he started off on the wrong foot trying to imitate Kuribayashi too much lol. The reactions of the other players filled with a burning rage was funny. |

The real story actually starts now. Will be explained how it all makes sense including Aoi's positional change to Fukuda's words in the next episode since it suits perfectly.. Playing to your strengths: In football no player is perfect in every department. An example is Messi being world class at goal scoring, play making and passing but when it comes to defending he's ofcourse no where near the level of a van Dyck... Even the most "all rounded" midfielders of all time are jack of all trades and master of none types (except passing attributes becz that's a midfielder's primary job to link the backline with the front) No player is perfect but no player needs to be perfect because every player plays to their strengths. In case of Kuribayashi, who lacks a strong physique but covers up his weaknesses with his speed, balance and quick decision making. Aoi doesn't have that yet he has been lacking acceleration and explosiveness.. don't confuse it with speed... He also lacks the movement of a forward to make it easier for everyone else to pick his run into the box and he can't run the channels... He lacks the instinct to be in the right place at the right time .. He lacks physical strength to hold the ball up and bring the inside forwards or wingers infield so they can cut across and have a cruling shot or run at the bing central defender...or the midfielders into the play without losing it....he needs to learn how to bully bigger center backs .. Kuribayashi meanwhile has a lean body. He knows "how" to use his body. His body is the reason he is fast, agile and a good dribbler of the ball.... Since his body is suited for fast and agile plays, 1-2 plays.. he doesn't really believe to get a pump up. Gaining muscles means increase in strength but decrease in agility and movement. Just look at all the quick dribblers, like Messi, Hazard, Neymar no one is build like a body builder. They have enough muscles that doesn't hinder their strengths in speed. What the body has naturally is the best for the player to work on. Kuribayashi doesn't need to bulk up but he will need to gain few muscles when he grows up but he needs to gain them at a natural rate that suits his body and not hinder his strengths and perks. A coach can make or break a player with his decisions... Let see how it goes for aoi.... His mom though....ufff |

Watching this episode was intense and exciting! Ashito doing his best to be moved to A team. Sadly, coach Fukuda said that he needs to give up the position forward and play as defender instead. This is getting exciting now. Every episode I've been waiting for more of Ashito's imporvement and growth. Now that this trial has been shown, I wonder what next would he do. |

Musika said: I always thought Aoi had a playmaker fit, like a Center Mid or Attacking Mid. Notice the words of Fukuda: "You will never again play as a forward". He did not say "You will forever play as a defender". So my guess is that Fukuda wants Aoi to play defender, full-back nonetheless, so he can understand the defender's position and mind. He already grasped the Forward mindset, so all that's left is the defendant one. He will then be moved to a mid-position where he will be "the reincarnation of Ronaldinho, even though he is still alive", having a complete view and control of the whole court. Hungry Heart did something similar, so it's not too far-fetched. The whole reasoning makes no sense at all. From a footballers perspective, there are so many things wrong with the whole shift. There is only one reason I can think of why the coach would say the things he did, I will elaborate at the end. 1. Defenders need to be physical, and while Aoi has stamina he is nowhere near physical enough. 2. Defenders need explosive power as well, so that point is kind of moot. One could say defenders need it even more, depending on play style. 3. While defenders need a lot of vision to anticipate the opponents movement, there is no need for them to have vision as expansive as Aoi. 4. Defenders are only good if they enjoy defending. If you don't enjoy defending, there is no way to be a good defender. Now to what I think the intention is. I think why the coach switched Aoi is to prepare him further. He saw that Aoi is able to see his teammates and plays he could make, but he also lacks the precision and speed needed for an attacker. So now he wants him to learn to also look at the enemy positions more and train a defensive kind of skills, so that in the end he can put him as a defensive midfielder, the position Aoi is obviously made for. As a defensive midfielder you are in control of the game, you have to make the plays happen, you need a lot of stamina, but not be as explosive as either front or back, but you also need to know how to defend, otherwise you are a liability. I think making him a defender is just an acceleration of the growth to get him where the coach really needs him, I still think the choice how he did it is rather radical and may be ill advised in most cases. |

Aoi is more of a defensive midfielder that can control the game, maybe someone like Schweinsteiger or Xavi (also dubbed Chameleon eyes for his 360° vision). (He is certainly not Pirlo with that pass accuracy. xD) |

For those who are baffled and thought how "illogical" Ashito's move as a defender (in his case, a full-back), this is how modern football has evolved. Klopp (Liverpool) and Guardiola (Man City) have turned full-backs into playmakers. Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson show how the full-back has become the new chief playmaker, occupying traditional winger positions or even outside No.10 positions. Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola in Man City's 2017-18 season, Kyle Walker and Fabian Delph frequently became auxiliary central midfielders, swinging on a pendulum between central midfield, full-back, and winger. Between Liverpool and City, ‘full-back’ has been shown to be a rather loose term for a set of positions that can cover a huge portion of the pitch. The modern full-back is an all-rounder, and usually the most versatile player on the pitch. |

Someone that has good position and starts defensive plays really fast... I would put him playing wing back for now but I understand why they want him to be more as a fullback. That way you focus more on the defense and you learn more about it. A wing back focus to much on the offensive side and not the right call to learn how to defend and position itself. Well said, I think for now playing him as a full-back is better so Ashito can learn how defenders do their job, especially full-backs when one side pushes up, the other fullback will slot on as another defender in the backline. In his case, when Asari's pushes up Ashito needs to learn when he should slot back in defense or when he needs to be dictating the game as their playmaker. |

One thing I can say is you have to change your perception on the role of fullback in modern football. A fullback is not just supporting player who make overlapping runs and spam crosses from the wings anymore, but they can also dictate the game (being playmaker) from their own position. This is not a fiction, this is also what happen in real life football with the top team in europe, and even JLeague too (that league is more advanced than what you think). The anime will explain more about it for the next couple episodes, but don't expect to get a full complete explanation. We need 2nd or maybe 3rd season for that. |

This new OP animation is what I wanna see more of in this anime! I really hope Production I.G puts more time and resources into the second season! I love this anime but the sakuga leaves a lot to be desired. Aoashi has the potential to be a cultural phenomenon. Football is the world’s most followed sport and good media that focuses on it is sparse. With the right marketing along with the growth that the anime market is seeing, it’s worth the investment. |

Unlike natural fullback who provide width to the team by staying on the side and making overlapping runs, inverted fullback instead will drifts to the center, or specifically to half space during attacking phase. So this role will not be much different than midfield and Aoi can use his vision skill to the full extent from this position. He can progress the ball from the back, pick his passes and creating chances from deep area. In Arsenal, we have Tomiyasu who fill this role but he's more defensive minded. Aoi will be closer closer to Joao Cancelo at City. Especially a team with the best set of inverted wingbacks, for instance like Liverpool with TAA and robbo |

Since the beginning, i said he would be a better center midfielder than forwarder, but a full back suits him good too since a team needs a solid man guiding the defence, would like to see him playing a Joao Cancelo style. |

If you are telling me that this Anime is actually about a defender/defensive midfielder and not just another forward I am sold higher than the highest mountain. That would actually be unique. |

An excellent episode. This is now the beginning of his development as a player and character! Not solely focused on scoring and shifting more into playmaking and contribution fits him very well. This will hopefully destroy his ego and build something that's better for him. Also, OP sequence is so good and the animation sequence is godly in this episode! Hopefully, they can keep this up! |

It prove quality upgrade from now broI don’t even want to think about what percentage of the budget went toward the new OP. It has no reason looking that good when the rest of the show has average animation at best. The switch of Aoi from forward to defender was a surprise. I’m not sure it will last, but I’m interested to see how it goes. Aoi was really over the line in how he reacted to the news. Yelling at his coach and grabbing his collar. If the genius head coach says you will be a national level player by switching positions then you’ll enjoy playing more in the long-run. I did see an improvement during the games, but the talking scenes are still pretty static and characters are off-model a surprising amount. |

production ig uped the budget for cour 2, the visuals for op are so beautiful. oh my fukuda's plan for aoi was total 180 from what aoi had thought, i get why aoi is so distraught he loves scoring and he's played a forward all his life n as a full back he can't do that directly;it's going to be a difficult road ahead for aoi to change his play completely |
